Objective: To find the association between delayed diagnosis of breast cancer over the degree of invasiveness for each of the immune-histochmically defined molecular type of invasive ductal carcinoma among the patient in tertiary care hospital of Karachi. Study Design and Setting: A cross sectional study was conducted on 153 post mastectomy patients in a time frame of two years at Bait-ul-Sukoon Hospital who had their immunohistochemistry workup. Methodology: The patients included in the research were diagnosed cases of breast cancer; had post-mastectomy with their histopathological and immunochemistry status work up reports. In addition to demographic variables; the histopathological report of specimen, histological tumor type and grade, invasive tumor size, axillary lymph node status, Paget’s disease and stage of the disease were recorded from the histopathological report however ER, PR and Her 2 neu receptor statuses were confirmed via immunochemistry report. Volume of the tumor was calculated using the following formula V = (W2 × L)/2 Convenient sampling was applied and the data was analyzed on SPSS 20.0 with CI-95% and P=0.05. Results- All 153 patients reported because of unpleasant symptoms.47.1% of the participants presented with LT while the remaining 52.9% were grouped as NLT. The association of molecular type with stage at mastectomy was statistically significant (P=0.015) in the ERG. Her-2 enriched variant shows that there was a moderate positive statistically significant relationship between log of total delay and log of tumor volume +2. Conclusion: Delay in diagnosis due to lack of screening modalities, lesser awareness among low socioeconomic groups and inaccessibility to tertiary care were not the major causes of aggressive tumors at diagnosis in developing countries, instead all the major known risk factors influence to the tumor burden collectively

Background: The receptor status of breast cancer, including ER, PR and HER 2, play a crucial role in the development of treatment plan of breast cancer. Clinical utility of ER as a predictive biomarker to identify patients likely to benefit from hormonal therapy is well established, added value of PR is less defined. This study aim to know the demography of breast cancer and to document the status of ER, PR and HER 2 status in the north Indian population, as catered by single tertiary care hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Methods: All the patients of breast cancers where surgery or core biopsy was performed for invasive breast carcinoma followed by evaluation of ER, PR and HER 2 status were included in the study from January 2014 to June 2018. Cases were analyzed retrospectively for documentation of ER, PR and HER2 status, using American society of Clinical Oncology/College of American Pathologists (ASCO/CAP) interpretation guidelines. Results: 112 patients were included in the study with mean age of 53.70±12.47. Most common histological type was invasive carcinoma of no special type. 43.75% cases were ER+/PR+, 5.35% were ER+/PR-, and 50.89% were ER-/PR-. ER-/PR+ status was seen in none of our cases. Correlation of ER and PR with HER 2 was possible in 90 cases and triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) status was observed in 32.2% of cases. Conclusions: Demography and ER positivity and incidence of TNBC is not different from rest of India, however the clinical utility for evaluation of PR receptor is to be further investigated.

ObjectivesTo determine the frequency of Depressive Disorder among patients with breast cancer in an outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan.BackgroundCancer not only affects body physically but can also affect the mind in the form of psychiatric disorder. Proper identification and treatment of these conditions can be beneficial and cost-effective.MethodologyThis cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on patients of breast cancer attending OPD of oncology department of Civil Hospital Karachi. The sample consisted of ninety three diagnosed patients of breast cancer who were screened for psychiatric morbidity through Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD Scale). Screened patients were interviewed and diagnosed as depressive disorder according to ICD criteria. The level of depression in these diagnosed patients was quantified through ZUNG'S Depression Rating Scale.ResultsEighty two percent (n = 76) of the sample (n = 93) were found to have psychiatric morbidity on HAD scale. Out of these screened sample sixty percent (n = 46) were found to be depressed on Zung self rating depression scale. Majority of these patients were suffering from mild to moderate depression. Half of the female in this sample were undergone mastectomy that was not found to have any statistically significant impact on psychiatric morbidity of the patient.ConclusionThis study shows high prevalence of depression in patients with breast cancer. The health professional involve in care of breast cancer should screen routinely their patients for symptoms of depression.

Objective: Cancer is a disease of uncontrolled division of cells in any part of the body. Breast cancer most common in women accounts for 13% of the death worldwide. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the drug prescription pattern of breast carcinoma patients in a tertiary care hospital of West Bengal. Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational questionnaire-based study done for a period of 6 months at the Department of Pharmacology in Collaboration with the Department of Surgery and Department of Radiotherapy of a Tertiary Care Hospital at Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Female patients with breast cancer (originated from epithelial tissues) of different types and grade attending surgery outdoor patient department were taken as subjects for the study, after signing informed consent. Results: The present study evaluated 28 patients (n=28) diagnosed as breast cancer by the physicians of the department of surgery and radiotherapy. It was observed that breast cancer was mostly found in the middle age group. Breast carcinoma in postmenopausal women accounted to 75%. The most prevalent breast cancer was invasive ductal carcinoma, accounting to 75% of the study population. 5-Fluorouracil, epirubicin, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, docetaxel/paclitaxel, and carboplatin were mostly used as chemotherapeutic agent. Conclusion: Breast carcinoma being a prevalent type of cancer in females, the present study tried to evaluate the pattern of prescribing chemotherapeutic agents for breast cancer patients in a tertiary care hospital. Such study is essential to evaluate and refine the therapeutic regimen of the cancer patients to reduce their sufferings.
