Abstract Objective: To analyze training in integrated health care for the elderly from the perspective of nursing students. Method: A descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach was carried out using the action research method with the participation of 24 nursing students from a university center in Piauí, Brazil. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and submitted to content analysis. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: Perspectives on aging, violence and sexuality and A holistic approach to the elderly: integrating training and care. Conclusion: The perspective of the students on integrated care for the elderly is fragmented, stemming from the limitations of the training process for such care.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze political and pedagogical projects of nursing residency to the elderly from Paulo Freire’s perspective. Method: a descriptive, exploratory study, qualitative approach using documentary analysis. Data source was pedagogical political projects of nursing residency programs in the health of the elderly. The data were collected between March and May 2017. Data analysis was based on Bardin’s Thematic Analysis. It had as analytical categories specific dimensions of the proposed theoretical framework. Results: twelve pedagogical political projects showed that learning dimensions appear in an incipient, fragmented way, demonstrating the reproduction of banking education, disregarding the importance of bringing the student as a subject of learning. Conclusion: there is a gap in pedagogical political projects from Paulo Freire’s perspective. It is necessary that regulatory institutions can systematize and encourage so that pedagogical projects of these programs are based on Paulo Freire’s epistemological bases, enabling the so desired holistic training.

This article reviews the possible role of the universal basic income in the transformation of experience in gender and age perspectives. The universal basic income has been particularly hotly debated in recent decades. Regardless of the position, the common tone of the debates is the imperative “we must experiment.” Such a close interest in the universal basic income derives from the fact that it threatens to change the “generic” for humans situation of finiteness of resources and the need to work. Thus, it is able to change the experience of what it means to be human. Since the universal basic income allows to separate labor from income, it is likely that its introduction will return value to the currently stigmatized or devalued types of labor, such as child care, elderly care or domestic work. It creates opportunities for experience redistribution in gender perspective: care and leaving (career break), affective connection, and sensitivity could become the business of both parents, not just mothers. Another experience redistribution is possible in age perspective. Along with automation of labor, population ageing is a universal process that will sooner or later affect all the countries. Alarmist narratives that present this process as a threat and a problem now prevail. They are largely based on outdated ideas about old age and what it means to be old. However, in fact, ageing is the maturation of the population as a whole. With a proper re-evaluation of the meaning and significance of old age, the introduction of the universal basic income could create material conditions for the transfer of experience from the elderly to the younger – for the first time since traditional societies.

The number of senior citizens who use mobile phones is increasing each year in Brazil. This trend means they are producers of digital assets (which may eventually become a legacy), due to constant data generation. This exploratory study follows a quantitative and qualitative approach and uses a survey as a data collection technique to address the research subject – investigating the perspective of senior citizens regarding digital legacy and assets. The authors conclude, given the importance of the results, that it is still necessary to pursue a larger study with the elderly for the development of initiatives that help improve knowledge and technology use as well as to increase their perception about their own digital assets.

This literature review paper examined the development of time banking in Hong Kong. Time banking is a system of transaction using time. Members of a time bank can earn time credits through work which they can spend these credits later. Time banking has become an international movement with participants included people in different age groups, local businesses, staff from participating organizations and even the organizations themselves. This diversity of time banking systems in different areas showed modifications of time banking systems can increase their uses, functions and effectiveness, and also can improve their versatility so as to provide tailor-made applications on different problems in different situations. Although around half a century has passed after the first time bank appeared (Miller, 2008), there was only one time bank in Hong Kong involving the elderly care service and the number of participants were less than 200 (Tsui, 2018; Ho, 2018; Lee, 2018). To improve this situation it is necessary to see whether it is possible to modify the present time banking system so that more extensive and effective applications can be provided. The present paper will address this gap of knowledge through proposing a time banking system on young people with the novel time credit multiplier concept with an aim to alleviate the serious and ever increasing manpower shortage problem of the elderly care services in Hong Kong.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the perception of caregivers of elderly persons regarding their own oral health care and that of the elderly individuals. Method: a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach was carried out. Semi-structured interviews with 13 caregivers were conducted, recorded and transcribed, and the Content Analysis technique was applied. Results: All respondents were informal caregivers, most of whom were female, aged over 50, married, had some degree of kinship with those receiving care, an incomplete elementary school education and no other occupation or job. After analyzing the interviews, the data were grouped into the following categories: a) home visits and health professionals; b) caregiver experience and care of the elderly; and c) the caregiver and their self-care. Conclusion: knowledge of caregivers’ perception of their own oral health and that of dependent/semi-dependent elderly persons assists in planning, promotion, prevention and health recovery. The work of a multi-professional team is therefore essential in the seeking out and instruction of these individuals.
