Africa is experiencing triple processes of high population growth, rapid urbanization, and digital transformation. The undercurrents of these processes suggest that the continent is turning from rural majority to urban majority, and this situation raises the question of where will this majority work? Arab Spring and the turbulent situation in the Middle East suggest what could be the result of inaction. This chapter attempts to answer this question by using exploratory research method to highlight the potential role of mainly young entrepreneurs to define, through online questionnaire responses, their preferred terrain of workplace creation in local areas, cities, rural areas and in the diverse regions of Africa as well as on the ubiquitous online work environment extending from home to anywhere in the continent. The chapter ends with a review of the observations and suggestions about future research.

Digital transformation is an emerging trend in developing the way how the work is being done, and it is present in the private and public sector, in all industries and fields of work. Smart cities, as one of the concepts related to digital transformation, is usually seen as a matter of local governments, as it is their responsibility to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens. Some cities have already taken advantages of possibilities offered by the concept of smart cities, creating new values to all stakeholders interacting in the living city ecosystems, thus serving as examples of good practice, while others are still developing and growing on their intentions to become smart. This paper provides a structured literature analysis and investigates key scope, services and technologies related to smart cities and digital transformation as concepts of empowering social and collaboration interactions, in order to identify leading factors in most smart city initiatives.

Organizations across all sectors and industries are facing the need for structural change towards a digital future. Rapid developments in digital technologies and their easy accessibility are changing organizations’ competitive environment and require the design and implementation of a sustainable digital transformation. To master this organizational task in a targeted manner and align it strategically, organizations must carry out a comprehensive analysis of the digital transformation fields of action. The developed integrated framework for digital transformation is structured into eight building blocks and associated action items, and includes a systematic literature analysis. It serves as a valuable framework and guideline on digital change for organizations.

Maintaining performance in digital ubiquitous work environment is increasingly dependent on the quality of physical, cognitive and organizational ergonomics of work. Since digital work environment is the reign of most knowledge workers, there is a need to elaborate the study of work ergonomics by devoting attention to the issue of information ergonomics. In health care digitalisation has affected operation model thoroughly. It has affected how information is recorded, managed and distributed. Novel service models powered by digital channels offer now ways to practice professions as well as there are several outcomes regarding the whole service area. This paper is a summary of four research projects on how digitalisation affects knowledge work and how working is (re)shaped by sociotechnical work environments with reflection to eHealth. The conclusion in the paper underlines the digital transformation shaping the lives of knowledge workers. Discussion on how sociotechnical reshapes both individual and organisations, not to mention extended organisations. As the working practices as well as conventions and norms dictate the daily flow people have developed digital coping strategies. Paper also discusses the future of information ergonomics research in health care as way to find normative result for enhancing work in sociotechnical environment. technical environment.

AbstractCreativity has become one of the most important driving factors of today’s digital business environments. Businesses are increasingly looking for creative employees who can offer new and out-of-the-box solutions to existing problems. Companies go through the process of digital transformation by increasingly changing the ways in which they employ digital technologies and develop new digital business models that help to create and to capture value. Combined with a creative approach, companies have experienced a surge in creative digital solutions. However, the creative process is not a self-perpetuating mechanism. It must be initiated and supported by organizations. This is done by understanding the creative process itself and by making small but fruitful adjustments to the work environment and the overall management of the workforce. As three chosen real-life examples will illustrate, such approach results in unleashing powerful creative energy that offers new services to the market, new approaches to solving existing problems, or as seen in the case of Uber—bringing in a completely new business model based on creative solutions and innovative approaches to different aspects of business operations.
