The article under the headline On-line Studies of ESL at Pandemic, concerns the modern theory of connectivism by George Simens in the pandemic for teaching and learning English as a second language. As the changing world and learning circumstances show the era for fundamental knowledge has come to an end. The informal way for getting information on the issue rather than the knowledge appears to be more important. In the era of information not the existing knowledge matters as the ways for getting the information on the certain topic even then when you know nothing of the issue. The on-line world and technologies give a wonderful possibility for gaining the info from those who already are aware of the matter via the chat or comment on blogs or online articles. The need of informal ways of teaching and getting the information have become serious outcome for mastering the English in an authentic atmosphere and get the very recent information on the topic. Thus, to pass asynchronous way the subject enables the student not only to get the grade but the information with less effort on the issue and make his own English internet community.

This paper examines language teaching and learning theories in a bid to consider evolving and appropriate approaches and methods for efficient teaching and learning English as a second language in Nigeria. While traditional approaches do provide a solid foundation for effective language teaching, they do not always address students' situational and current needs. Hence, the study reveals that strategies and methods are evolving especially, in this hi-tech age, to meet such additional needs. Since no one theory or method is the best, the study recommends a principled eclectic approach for the effective and functional teaching and learning of English in Nigeria.  It also suggests processes that could enhance teaching and motivate learning in the ESL classroom.

Pronunciation is an important aspect of English learning. It is however one of the most abandoned or half taught. This is usually due to perceived difficulty in its teaching and learning. Hence, unfavorable attitudes set in, especially in English as a second language situation. In most cases, due to poor technique and methodology employed by the teachers of English, the students are not encouraged to learn pronunciation like other aspects of the subject. This attitude goes a very long way in determining their communicative competence as poor pronunciation could lead a breakdown in communication. It is thus the responsibility of the teachers to help the students learn. This paper thus advocates and presents some motivational strategies that could be employed by the teachers of English to improve the learners’ attitude to learning pronunciation in English as a second language classroom.

The fastest development of technology and the internet in the 4.0 revolution era that influenced the world of education, especially higher education. Currently education focuses on outcome-based education, thus forcing all lecturers to innovate in teaching and learning. One form is by on-line learning for English learning materials developed through the website. This study analyzes the effectiveness of on-line based learning on websites on the ability to read students in the process of learning English at Universitas Brawijaya through "absyak" media websites. The use of the blended learning model has been done in several subjects, but for English subjects (reading) has never been done before. This research is quantitative descriptive. The research sample used a sample of 65 students through a questionnaire on students of the English language study program at Brawijaya University in academic year 2018/2019. The results showed that 81.99% agreed with the application of English reading learning based on blended learning through "absyak" media websites and the remaining 18.01% did not agree on learning English reading based on blended learning through "absyak" media websites. The implementation of online-based learning through "absyak" learning in the media can be effectively contained in high student responses, increased student scores and student attitudes towards variation and learning innovation.

The English language, which is studied as a second language in Nigeria, is indispensable in all spheres of human endeavours. It is the language of government, education, the judiciary and indeed every aspect of national life. All ethnic groups in the country, the Igbo inclusive, embrace this all-important language for their various activities. Because this significant language is not a mother tongue in the Igbo environment, some students of English in a second language situation encounter problems because some learners study it against the background of their mother tongue in which they have attained a reasonable degree of competence. Again, teachers on their own part contribute to the problem owing to their pedagogical incompetence, lack of instructional materials, language interference, etc. To this end, this paper looks at the concept of teaching and learning English in a second language situation with a focus on the problems encountered by the Igbo teachers and learners as regards imbibing the intricacies of the language and possible solution. To get about this, fifty Year one Sandwich students of Department of English Language and Literature, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and their lecturers were directly observed in a classroom situation. It was discovered that they have interference problem amongst other problems inherent in studying English as a second language.

Conventional classroom teaching and learning of programming tends to be didactic, which is usually tends to be monotonous and less interesting. In learning programming – a subject that is deemed extremely challenging to master – such a situation can have a serious repercussion in that students can easily become unmotivated and demoralized to learn. As such, students need to use relevant learning tools that can stimulate and motivate them to learn such a course. Of late, many researchers have started using online game-based learning (GBL) tools to improve students’ motivation and performance. Invariably, most of the studies mainly focused on GBL tools to move avatars. As such, this study focuses on programming as the activities in such a game. In this study, the researchers used the prototyping model to develop an online GBL application called Prog-GBL by integrating the elements of mastery learning approach and ARCS model to help motivate students in learning programming. The evaluation of the Prog-GBL was carried out through a survey involving 30 students from one public university in Perak, Malaysia. The research findings showed that the use of such an online learning tool helped improve students’ motivation in learning programming. More revealingly, the four elements of ARCS, namely attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction were highly rated by the students, suggesting that the use of Prog-GBL can motivate students to learn the subject matter.
