Acharya sushruta said to be swastha whoes dosha,dhatu, agni, mala are in the state of in equilibrium along with mental, sensory and spiritual happiness. Medovridhi is a condition is of excess body fat for their height, medovridhi can affect any person from young children to older adults. there are many causes of medovridhi such as overeating, genetics, hormones, lack of physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, junk food etc.  Among them sedentary life-a kind of life which has less or no physical activity at all e.g. desk jobs, sleeping too much, sitting for long hours without reasons. Junk food like-like fried chicken, ice-cream, pizza, sandwiches, chips etc. is an unhealthy diet that is high in trans and saturated fats. In obesity (medovridhi) there is imbalance state of med dhatu which affect health of a person and prevalence rate of medovridhi is very high (16.6 in Maharashtra). Medovridhi is a burning issue for all the countries, it causes the number of health problems. Ayurvedic acharyas had mentioned the above condition and explained in detailed causes, sign, symptoms, and treatment.

The correlation between physical activity and sedentary life style was investigated as a determinant of the body mass index in children and adolescents in Banjaluka region. The study involved 1204 children and adolescents, 6-17 years old, 578 boys, 626 girls. BMI was calculated from their height and weight using standard formula. Each child, together with their parents answered the questions considering their level of involvement in physical versus sedentary activities. Physical activity was defined as involvement in sports activities, while sedentary life style was defined as time spent on computer, games, video, and TV. The prevalence of overweight and obesity were 12.2% and 6.1% in our study group. Increased physical activity showed strong positive correlation with normal, lower BMI in boys (p<0,05), and girls (p<0.001). Sedentary lifestyle, prolonged TV watching was strongly associated with increased BMI only in girls (p<0.05). However, computer use for 2 hours/day was strongly associated with increased BMI (p<0.05) only in boys, although computer use for more than 3 hours/day was associated with lower BMI in boys. Physical activity and sedentary lifestyle are significant determinants of BMI and risk factors in developing overweight and obesity in childhood, as shown in our study.

The fact is that many children, especially teenagers, suffer from mental and emotional stress and problems with their learning skills. Many of them are at risk of cardiovascular and locomotor system diseases because of the sedentary life-style. Most health experts agree that kids live sedentary if they do not exercise at least 30 minutes three times a week, have a lessons that requires little physical activity and sit most of the time. Physically active kids feel better what is prerequisite for successful learning but it is very often that pupils at school sit and learn using tablets, books, smartphones and computers. The needs of today pupils means active learning but also active way of living. School library is one of the most appropriate location in the school to connect movement, creativity and learning.

Elevated skeletal muscle expression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) has been linked to increased inflammation in clinical populations. TNFα converting enzyme (TACE), which cleaves membrane-bound TNFα (mTNFα) to its soluble (sTNFα) and more bioactive form, has been linked to chronic disease. In contrast, higher physical activity level is associated with decreased chronic disease risk and inflammation. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between physical activity and skeletal muscle TLR4, TACE, and TNFα in older adults. In 26 older adults (age = 68 ± 4 years, body mass index = 26 ± 3 kg·m−2), self-reported physical activity (kcal·week−1), estimated maximal oxygen consumption, and body composition (air plethysmography) were measured. TLR4, TACE, mTNFα, and sTNFα were measured in skeletal muscle biopsies (vastus lateralis) using western blot analyses. Pearson product-moment correlations were run between variables. Significance was set at p < 0.05. Skeletal muscle TACE was directly associated with sTNFα (r = 0.53, p < 0.01). Linear regression modeling showed that mTNFα and TACE expression were predictive of sTNFα expression. No correlations were observed between physical activity and TLR4, TACE, or sTNFα. Percent body fat was directly associated with skeletal muscle TLR4 (r = 0.52, p < 0.01) and TACE (r = 0.50, p < 0.01), whereas fasting blood glucose was directly associated with TACE and sTNFα. In conclusion, we found that percent body fat was directly associated with TLR4 and TACE expression in skeletal muscle of older adults. These findings suggest that elevated skeletal muscle expression of TLR4 and TACE may contribute to the augmented inflammation and chronic disease risk observed with increased adiposity.

Abstract Introduction. The benefits of physical activity (PA) have been so well documented that there is no doubt about the significance of PA for personal and social health. Several theoretical models have been proposed with a view to understanding the phenomenon of PA and other health behaviours. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if and how the variables suggested in the Health Belief Model (HBM) determine physical activity stages of change in older adults. Material and methods. A total of 172 students of Universities of the Third Age aged 54 to 75 (mean = 62.89 ± 4.83) years agreed to participate in the study, filling out an anonymous survey measuring their stage of exercise change and determinants of health behaviours proposed by the HBM, including: perceived benefits of physical activity, perceived barriers to physical activity, perceived severity of diseases associated with sedentary lifestyle, perceived susceptibility to these diseases, and self-efficacy. Results. The results only partially support the hypothesis that the HBM predicts intentions and behaviours related to the physical activity of older adults. Only two variables were moderately-to-strongly related to stages of exercise change, namely perceived barriers and self-efficacy. Conclusion. Interventions aimed at informing older adults about the benefits of physical activity and the threats associated with sedentary lifestyle can be expected to have rather a weak influence on their readiness for physical activity.

Introduction:Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is a leading cause of blindness in the elderly population. Objective:To frame a profile of patients with ARMD and find out the factors associated with it Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out including a total of 75 patients with ARMD presenting to the out-patient department of a tertiary level ophthalmic center in Kathmandu. The data pertaining to their demography, ocular and systemic history and the findings of clinical examination and laboratory investigations were analyzed. The quality of life was assessed based on their dependability on the others for daily activity. Results: Mean age of presentation of ARMD was 73 years ±7.93. Of the total, 44 were male and 31 female. Smoking was significantly associated with ARMD (p<0.01). 47 of the subjects had a sedentary lifestyle and 28 a non-sedentary lifestyle. Sedentary life style was significantly associated with ARMD (p=0.028). 48 subjects were hypertensive. Systemic hypertension was significantly associated with ARMD (p = 0.015). 45 had dry ARMD, 21 had wet ARMD and 9 of them had a mixed variety. Thirteen out of the 75 study subjects were leading a normal life while 45 of them had some limitation (self-care only) and 17 of them were dependent on the others for their daily activity. The quality of life was not significantly different between dry and wet ARMD (p = 0.40). Conclusion: Sedentary life style, smoking and hypertension are the modifiable factors that are associated with ARMD. A significant number of people with the ARMD have a compromised quality of life. Abstract Context: High vitamin D and physical activity (PA) levels are independently associated with improved body composition and muscle function in older adults. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the interaction of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and PA status in maintenance of body composition and muscle function in older adults. Design and Setting: This was a 5-year prospective population-based study of Australian community-dwelling older adults. Participants: Participants in the study included 615 community-dwelling volunteers aged 50 years old or older [61.4 ± 6.9 (mean ± SD) y; 48% female] randomly selected from electoral rolls and categorized according to baseline serum 25OHD (≥ or &lt;50 nmol/L) and PA (≥ or &lt;10 000 pedometer determined steps/d) levels as follows: high 25OHD and high PA (VitD+PA+); high 25OHD and low PA (VitD+PA−); low 25OHD and high PA (VitD-PA+); and low 25OHD and low PA (VitD-PA−). A subset of 518 participants completed accelerometer assessments during follow-up. Main Outcome Measures: Changes in dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry-assessed body composition and lower-limb muscle function were measured. Results: VitD+PA+ had significantly smaller increases in body fat over 5 years compared with other groups (all P &lt; .05). Higher baseline pedometer-determined PA resulted in declines in total body fat (β = −.23 kg per 100 steps/d, P = .001) over 5 years for participants with high 25OHD but not those with low 25OHD (P &gt; .05). Among participants with accelerometer data, these associations were generally mediated by higher levels of moderate/vigorous PA. Conclusions: High vitamin D status appears to enhance PA-related declines in body fat during aging, but the mechanism may be greater amounts of outdoor moderate/vigorous PA rather than a direct effect of 25OHD.

As the world advances, living standards are getting changed with inclination more toward sedentary life style and junk food, we are seeing a worldwide increased incidence of coronary artery disease. A 73 year of age gentleman with progressive shortness of breath NYHA-II/III since last 6 months and epigastric discomfort with effort angina CCS-III. Was having no other co-morbidities, except of 35 pack years of smoking. On evaluation his Coro-angiogram revealed Diffuses TVCAD with Lad diffusely diseased throughout its middle course >90%, LCX 80%, RCA mid-Course critical discrete lesion of 90%. His 2D, TTE showed normal valvular apparatus and ejection fraction of 55%. Literature review further furnishes the fact that LAD is most commonly being affected by atheroma formation hence making it the most common site for endartrectomy, though peri-operative MI is still a grave concern, but half dose protamine slow reversal of the heparin and keeping ACT at 150-160 sec greatly reduces the incidence of peri-operative MI.

BACKGROUND Older adults and those with pre-existing medical conditions are at risk of death from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). In this period of quarantine, one of the reasons for going out is physical activity. This issue is important, as the impact of a sedentary lifestyle might be lower for children and young adults, but is far more severe for older adults. Although older adults need to stay at home because they have a higher risk of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), they need to avoid a sedentary lifestyle. Physical activity is important for older adults, especially to maintain their level of independence, mental health, and well-being. Maintaining mobility in old age is necessary, as it may predict loss of independence in older adults. OBJECTIVE Our first objective was to evaluate the impact of this quarantine period on physical activity programs and on the physical and mental health of older adults. Our second objective was to discuss alternatives to physical activity programs that could be suggested for this population to avoid a sedentary lifestyle. METHODS We conducted a qualitative survey using semistructured interviews with professionals (managers in charge of physical activity programs for older adults and sports trainers who run these physical activity programs) from the French Federation of Physical Education and Voluntary Gymnastics (FFPEVG) and older adults participating in a physical activity program of the FFPEVG. We followed a common interview guide. For analysis, we carried out a thematic analysis of the interviews. RESULTS This study suggests that the COVID-19 epidemic has affected, before quarantine measures, the number of seniors attending group physical activity programs in the two study territories. In addition, despite the decline in their participation in group physical activities before the quarantine, older adults expressed the need to perform physical activity at home. There is a need to help older adults integrate simple and safe ways to stay physically active in a limited space. A national policy to support older adults for physical activity at home appears essential in this context. CONCLUSIONS Given the results of our study, it seems necessary to globally communicate how important it is for older adults to maintain physical activity at home. We are concerned about the level of independence and mental health state of older adults after the end of quarantine if there is no appropriate campaign to promote physical activity among them at home.

Sedentary/inactive lifestyle leads middle-aged and older adults to metabolic syndrome and frailty. Capsinoids from nonpungent chili pepper cultivar have been reported to reduce body fat mass, promote metabolism, and improve unidentified complaints of chills. Additionally, they have an anti-inflammation effect; therefore, we hypothesized that continuous oral ingestion of capsinoids alleviates age-related inflammation in the brain and improves the physical activity (PA) in middle-aged and older adults. In our double-blind human study, 69 participants (17 male, 52 female; mean age: 74.1 ± 7.7 years; range: 52–87 years) were administered either 9 mg of capsinoids which were extracted from pepper fruit variety CH-19 Sweet (Capsicum anuum L.) (CP group), or a placebo (PL group) daily over a 3 month period. In an animal study, PA and inflammation-related mRNA expression in the brain were examined in 5-week (young) and 53-week (old) aged mice fed a diet with or without 0.3% dihydrocapsiate, a type of capsinoids, for 12 weeks. In a human study, capsinoids intake did not increase the amount of light-to-moderate PA less than 6.0 metabolic equivalents (METs) (CP: 103.0 ± 28.2 at baseline to 108.2 ± 28.3 at 12 weeks; PL: 104.6 ± 19.8 at baseline to 115.2 ± 23.6 at 12 weeks, METs × hour/week); however, in participants exhibiting an inactive lifestyle, it showed significant increase (CP: 84.5 ± 17.2 at baseline to 99.2 ± 24.9 at 12 weeks; PL: 99.7 ± 23.3 at baseline to 103.8 ± 21.9 at 12 weeks). The energy expenditure in physical activity also improved in the inactive CP group (CP: 481.2 ± 96.3 at baseline to 562.5 ± 145.5 at 12 weeks; PL: 536.8 ± 112.2 at baseline to 598.6 ± 127.6 at 12 weeks; kcal/day). In all participants, CP showed reduced waist circumference, percent body fat, and visceral fat volume; in addition, chills were eased in subjects aged 80 years and older. The older mice fed capsinoids showed increased locomotion activity, decreased inflammation, and oxidative stress in the brain. The results suggest that the continuous oral ingestion of capsinoids gains PA through anti-inflammation effect in the brain as well as reduces fat accumulation and chills in inactive and older humans.
