A series of new mononuclear Ru(III) complexes bearing phenoxy-imine Schiff base tetradentate ligands (phenylimino, 4-chlore phenylimino, 3,4-dichlore phenylimino) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, TGA, UV-VIS, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C NMR spectra. The proposed structure of the ligands have a O2N2 core to form mononuclear Ru (III) complexes. Preliminary studies on the catalytic performances of the compounds in the cycloalkane oxydation are described. The catalytic effect of all Ru complexes results in the epoxidation reaction of cyclohexane, as shown in the substrate conversion reaction appears to be very high.

Znic-containing mesoporous HMS (Zn-HMS) with various znic contents were synthesized by using netural dodecylamine(DDA) as template at ambient temperature and characterized by means of XRD, FT-IR and TEM. The catalytic performance of Zn-HMS was evaluated by the oxidation of thiophene, and the influences of the zinc content and zinc source on the catalytic performances of the samples were studied. It was observed that a limited content of zinc can be incorporated into the siliciate framework of HMS and appropriate amount of zinc incorporated would promote the formation of the typical wormhole-like structure of HMS and exhibited high catalytic properties while excessive zinc incorporated would destroy the structure. Besides, for all the zinc sources, the samples synthesized from Zn(NO3) 2 have better catalytic effect, and it is benefical for zinc incorporating.

Abstract Structurally different Molecules namely Pentoxifylline and Pralidoxim were chosen along with α-cyclodextrin and β-cyclodextrin to study host-guest inclusion phenomena. The formations of host guest inclusion complexes were confirmed by studying 1H-NMR spectra, FT-IR spectra, apparent molar volume and viscosity co-efficient. The stabilities of inclusion complexes were compared calculating the binding constant from UV-VIS spectroscopic study. The 1:1 stoichiometry of the inclusion complexes were also determined by analysing the Jobs plot and surface tension data. The values for Gibbs’ free energy were found negative for both the processes. Based on all the above experiments the inclusion processes were found feasible for both the compounds. These types of inclusion complexes are of high interest in the field of research and industry as these are used as drug delivery systems.

Abstract3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(2,5-dimethylfuran-3-yl)prop-2-en-1-one (DDFP), is prepared by the equimolar ratio of 1-(2,5-dimethylfuran)ethan-1-one and 3,4, dimethoxy benzaldehyde under ultrasonic irradiation. Structure of DDFP was established by the FT-IR, 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopic methods and elemental analysis. The nonlinear optical properties of this dye using the z-scan technique with a cw argon ion laser at 514.5 nm are studied. Both the closed and open aperture z-scan data is used to estimate the nonlinear refractive index n2 and the nonlinear absorption coefficient β respectively. The measurements are carried out at five concentrations as well as at five laser powers. The values obtained are relatively very high and vary linearly with concentration. The studies on optical limiting behavior of this dye are also reported here.

A novel building block in organic synthesis, poly (4-iodobutoxylmethylsiloxane)(PIBMS) with high reaction activity was prepared by poly (hydromethylsiloxane)(PHMS), methyl iodide and tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of a catalytic amount of PdCl2. The structure of PIBMS was characterized by the FT-IR and NMR spectra. The reaction conditions were optimized.

FT-IR (in solid state and solution), FT-Raman, UV and1H,13C NMR spectra of p-methoxybenzoic (p-anisic) acid and lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and caesiump-methoxybenzoates (p-anisates) were registered, assigned and analyzed. The structures of anisic acid and Li, Na and Kp-anisates were optimised at the B3LYP/6-311++G** level. The IR spectra and NPA, ChelpG and MK atomic charges were calculated. The effect of metal ions on the electronic charge distribution in ligand was discussed.

To obtain new fine chemical and intermediate of functional polymer material, the acylation of acenaphthene with benzoyl chloride to 5-acetylacenaphthene catalyzed by silica-supported phosphotungstic heteropoly acid (PW/SiO2) was investigated. Pure 5-acetylacenaphthene was obtained and its structure was identified by GC/MS, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectra. The effects of experimental parameters on the catalytic acylation reaction and the possibility of reusability of PW/SiO2 catalyst were studied. Under optimun conditions, the yield and the selectivity of 5-acetylacenaphthene were up to 81.3 % and 93.6 %, respectively. PW/SiO2 shows well catalytic activity after running for 5 times. The experimental results indicate that PW/SiO2 is a recyclable and environmentally benign catalyst in the synthesis of 5-acetylacenaphthene.

The two copolymer systems of styrene bearing diethanol amine side group and styrene were prepared by free radical polymerization method at 60°C in presence of 1,4-dioxane as solvent and AIBN as initiator. Their metal complexes were prepared by reaction of the copolymer used as ligand P(DEAMSt-co-St)L′′ and Ni(II) and Co(II) metal ions, which was carried out in presence of ethanol and NaOH at 65°C for 48 h in pH = 7.5. The structures of the copolymers used as ligand and metal complexes were identified by FT-IR, 1H-NMR spectra, and elemental analysis. The properties of the copolymers used as ligand and metal complexes were characterized by SEM-EDX, AAS, DSC, TGA, and DTA techniques. Then, the electrical properties of the copolymers and metal complexes were examined as a function of the temperature and frequency, and the activation energies (Ea) were estimated with conductivity measurements.
