Synthesis, Characterization and Photo Degradation Studies of New Mixed Ligand Transition Metal Complexes of Mefenamic Acid and Glutamine

Dentate ligands 2-[(2,3-dimethylphenyl)amino]benzoic acid (Mefenamic acid ) and 2,5-diamino-5-oxopentanoic acid(glutamine) were used as bidentate Lewis base to prepare solid complexes with Molybdenum (V), Tungsten (V)) and Lanthanum(III). The Photo degradation study was achieved for the complexes solutions in methanol. The prepared complexes were characterized by using spectroscopy methods like FTIR, UV-visible, Melting points and flame atomic absorption spectroscopy were calculated for all complexes. Furthermore the molar conductance of 0.001 M solutions in acetonitrile and magnetic susceptibility were performed to elucidate the proposed geometry and structures of prepared complexes. Magnetic susceptibility displayed that complexes had not diamagnetic properties. Photo kinetic study was done for La and Mo Complexes to study the photo sensitivity of prepared complexes. Half time of the complexes` photo reaction were achieved and order of reactions were calculated which appear that photo reaction of LaIII complex was from the first order and constant of reaction was calculated (1.62x10-2) min-1 and half time of reaction was (62.112) min. Also, order reaction of Mo (III) complex was from first order too, the value of constant of reaction was (1.88 min-1) and half time of reaction was (26.6) min. TGA analysis of MoIII was done.

The serum concentration of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), calcium (Ca) and iron (Fe) in 30 schizophrenic patients and 30 normal healthy subjects were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentrations of Cd, Pb and Ca in schizophrenic disorder patients was not increased significantly (P > 0.05) compared to that of the cohort controls. But the concentration of Fe in schizophrenic patients was significantly different from that of the cohort control (p < 0.000). The change in serum concentration of different trace elements may have some prognostic significance for the diagnosis of schizophrenic disorder. However further work is suggested to examine the exact correlation between trace elements level and the degree of disorder in schizophrenic patients. The serum level of zinc and vitamin E were measured to understand the association of various nutrients on acne pathogenesis. Both zinc and vitamin E are antioxidants used as a supplement in acne treatment. However, their effect and status in acne patients are not fully understood. This study included 48 acne patients and 48 sex- and age-matched healthy controls. The zinc and vitamin E concentration was measured in the serum by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and HPLC methods. Compared to the healthy control, a significant deficiency of serum vitamin E level in acne patients (p<0.001) was found, although the patients were not deficient in serum zinc level (p=0.22). In addition, female acne patients had a slightly lower zinc level than male patients (p=0.06). The low serum vitamin E level suggests that supplementation of vitamin E might be helpful in acne treatment. However, further studies are required to understand the dose and mechanism of vitamin E supplements in acne treatment. J. Bangladesh Acad. Sci. 45(1); 49-58: June 2021

Novel tetra dentate Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), VO(II) and Zn(II) Schiff base complexes have been synthesized from salicylidene-4-iminoantipyrine and tyrosine. The synthesized Schiff base complexes was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FT-IR, ESR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-vis, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The general formula of complexes was confirmed as [ML] type [M = Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Ni(II) and VO(II); L = C27H24N4O4]. Magnetic susceptibility, IR and UV-vis, spectral data showed that all the complexes have square planar geometry except vanadyl complex which suggests square pyramidal geometry. Lower molar conductance values proved that all the chelates were non-electrolytic nature. The X-band ESR spectra of [CuL] and [VOL] complexes in DMSO solution suggest that the complexes were predominant covalent character. Powder XRD and SEM image pattern evidenced that all the compounds were crystalline in nature and their size ranges from 100-40 nm. Calf thymus DNA binding potential of [CuL] and [VOL] complexes shows that the binding occurs through intercalation mode with low binding constant. The analgesic, CNS, antiulcer and antimicrobial activities of the investigated compounds report reveals that the chelates were significant effect than free Schiff base.

Determination and evaluation of principal minerals in Negella sativa by atomic absorption technical methods were showed, using wet ashing method. This work was done on Negella sativa because of wide using of this plant in many formulations ( in food or medicine ).two types of atomic absorptions were used : first, flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, for minerals of high concentrations such as, Na, Mg, K, Fe, Ca, Li, Ni, Zn, Mn, Cu. Second, flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy, for minerals of low concentrations such as, Al, Si, V, B, Pb, Co, Cd, Cr ,Si, Hg, Sn .The results showed the existence of many minerals in Negella sativa useful to human sanity with acceptable dietary allowance. On other side, the presence of harmful minerals to human sanity(Pb, Cd, Hg ) were negligible.

Colobanthus quitensis (Kunt) is one of the two vascular plant species present in Antarctica and develops under severe environmental conditions, being found in both pristine and human-threatened environments. We determined the Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn levels in C. quitensis roots, leaves, and soils of origin using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. In January 2017, we collected samples from four geographical zones on the longitudinal gradient along which C. quitensis is distributed, starting from Punta Arenas (PAR) at the extreme south of mainland Chile and moving southwards to the Antarctic territory from King George Island (KGI) to Hannah Point Peninsula (PHA) and finally Lagotellerie Island (LAT). We used certified reference material to validate the plant tissues and soil samples we collected. The highest concentrations of metals that we measured in the soils and in the C. quitensis roots and leaves were in samples we collected at the KGI station, the zone with the greatest human activity. The lowest concentrations we measured were at the LAT station, an island with little human intervention and scarce fauna. The mean concentrations of metals in the roots and leaves of C. quitensis followed a similar order at all sampling locations: Mn > Zn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Cr > Cd. In contrast, in soil, they followed the following order: Mn > Zn > Cu > Cr > Pb > Ni > Cd. The concentration levels obtained for the different metals in the soil and plants tissue samples in this region of Antarctica indicated that the area was non-polluted. However, the metallic trace element (MTE) concentrations may be at an early stage of contamination, as described in other areas of the Antarctic, being a new threat to this continent.

A new complexes of the type ML, MʹL and M″L [where M=Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Mn(II), Mʹ=Fe(III) and M″=Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) and L=N1-[(1E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]-2-oxo-2H-chromene- 3-carbohydrazide (HL)] Schiff base have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, IR,1H NMR, UV-Visible and ESR data. The studies indicate the HL acts as doubly monodentate bridge for metal ions and form mononuclear complexes. The complexes Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II) Mn(II) and Fe(III) complexes are found to be octahedral, where as Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes are four coordinated with tetrahedral geometry. The synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activity.

Abstract A method for determination of Cd, Cu, and Pb in sodium chloride food salt samples has been developed. It consists of extraction in 4- methj 1-2-pentanonc of the complexes formed with ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and further analysis of the extracts by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. Detection limits in ng/g salt were 0.2 for Cd, 0.7 for Cu, and 10.0 for Pb. The coefficients of variation of 12 independent analyses were 13% for Cd (at a level of 0.4 ppb), 18% for Cu (1.6 ppb), and 5% for Pb (40 ppb). The recoveries were 100 ± 0% for Cd, 115 ± 14% for Cu, and 100 ± 13% for Pb.
