The major financial intermediary in any economy is the bank. As financial intermediaries, banks provide means by which funds can be transferred from the surplus unit of the economy to the deficit unit. This role is performed primarily through the acceptance of deposits of different categories and characteristics for onward lending to the numerous customers by way of loans and credits. The study tries to access the impact of credit policy on the performance of Nigerian Commercial Banks using Zenith Bank Plc as case study. Primary data were collected through questionnaires served on sixty (60) respondents (staff: 32 and customer: 28) of the bank. The questionnaires were analysed with the use of chi-square (X2). The findings from the study show that having a good credit policy in place goes a long way in minimizing the incidence of bad debts. It was also discovered that prudent credit assessment and disbursement, dynamic credit monitoring and decisive actions when there are warning signals, have all helped the bank to maintain a high quality of assets and a high level of profitability.

<p>ABSTRACT<br />Fishing port which is an important infrastructure in the marine fisheries sector, need to be managed optimally so that its functions are fulfilled by existing provisions. However, in some areas, fishing ports function is hampered because many tangkahan are in around the location of the fishing port. This condition occurs as it does in the Territorial Fishing Port (PPN) of Sibolga and Belawan fishing port so the utilization is less than optimal. This study aims to determine the impact of tangkahan to the catch landing in Sibolga fishing port. The study was conducted in June-July 2009 in the five Tangkahan (UD Ilham, Sabena, Budi Jaya, Renta Sari, Sari Hope Sea) and Sibolga fishing port. This research was conducted by the case study method. The data are taken from primary and secondary. Primary data retrieved through observation and interviews with respondents: tangkahan owners, managers of Sibolga fishing port and fish quality measurement with organoleptic analysis. The analysis is done qualitatively and quantitative descriptive through the presentation of tables and graphs. The analysis showed that the presence of a negative impact on landed catch production in Sibolga fishing port. Production of Sibolga fishing port only 4.3 percent when compared with the production in tangkahan reaching 95.7 percent of total catch landed in the Teluk Tapian Nauli. Largest fishery business center is currently in many tangkahan not in Sibolga fishing port. The potential increase in the number of catches in Sibolga fishing port very large if all the ships could be transferred to this port. Comparison between the quality of the catch in Sibolga fishing port and tangkahan is very small (less than 1 scale) or the quality of the catch in both types of the landing site is almost the same.<br />Keywords: impact, Sibolga fishing port, tangkahan</p><p>------</p><p><br />ABSTRAK<br />Pelabuhan perikanan merupakan prasarana penting pada sektor perikanan laut.

This study examines the quality of the paratransit service and its operations in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, with a view to identifying its challenges and contributions to informal transport and equitable service distribution to the residents of Aba. Structured questionnaires and past literature were used as sources of data. The primary data included road networks, number of trips per day by operators, operating speed, and purpose of travel, passengers' security, tricycle speed, and waiting time. The study was conducted by using two questionnaires: one for the operators and the other for tricycle users. The total number of completed questionnaires for the survey was 100 for operators and 229 for users. The sampling technique used was random sampling from several zones of the study area. Data were analysed using percentage and Chi-square statistical techniques for testing the hypotheses with the Minitab 11.0 version package. The study found that 92% of operators reported a high level of road network deterioration, and 61% reported making 9-12 trips per day. The hypothesis test was used to study people's feelings about the attributes of the service provided for paratransit users, such as affordability, regularity, comfort and safety. It was found that there is no significant difference at the 5% level between the various categories of these respondents.

Abstract Landscape components can affect all the important biological processes of invertebrate populations, including their harvest quality, yet they are rarely considered in fisheries management frameworks. Here, we explore landscape, economic and ecologic variables to demonstrate that landscape metrics can be a valuable component in the management of sessile invertebrate fisheries. We developed a map-derived model that links landscape variables with the quality of a fishing resource, using five topographical variables—coastal convexity, orientation, complexity, exposure, and distance from the coast—all but the latter were tested at 23 different spatial scales. The model was ground-truthed using the case study of the gooseneck barnacle fishery in Asturias (N. Spain). Distance from the coast, coastal convexity on a scale of 25 km and exposure on a scale of 1 km appear to be driving the quality of the resource. Our model can predict high-quality gooseneck barnacle fishing zones with 72% accuracy. Moreover, we used a 10-year time-series of gooseneck barnacle landings and sales to analyse the impact of quality on the fishery. Fishers have a bias towards harvesting high-quality gooseneck barnacles, which are sold at higher market values. Thus, quality directly affects landings and sales. Our results highlight the interest of incorporating landscape metrics in fisheries management to generate and support spatially explicit conservation and exploitation policies.
