The purpose of this paper is to make a case for the power of qualitative methodology as well as to demonstrate the contributions of qualitative methods in applied research and practice. As analytical material and as an illustration, we use a project where qualitative research methods produce more trustworthy and credible information about a phenomenon than did quantitative research methods. In the process of studying the market for research-based facility programming, we reflected on the heuristic potential and productivity of the methods that have been used traditionally. We made a comparative analysis of the survey and qualitative research designs when used for the study of situations that previously had not been researched or have rarely been researched. This study demonstrates a way of reasoning, grappling with the dilemma of “qualitative versus quantitative,” and reveals the decision making process, as well as some unexpected findings, in evaluating facility programming research. This paper contributes to promoting qualitative methodology in professional practice, in applied projects, and in industries that rely heavily on quantitative research designs.

The controversy that has surrounded the value of quantitative research methods as opposed to qualitative approaches as a means to increasing the knowledge and understanding of human behaviour in health and illness, has been contested by nurse scholars for several decades. This paper continues debate around this issue and provides a critique of the problems associated with these competing paradigms. It challenges the convention that all nursing research must be objective and value free in order to be scientific, and provides an overview of the processes that should be considered by researchers utilizing qualitative methods of inquiry.

The complimentary nature of qualitative and quantitative research methods are examined with respect to a study assessing the market's view of a training and development institute in the Middle East. The qualitative portion consisted of focus groups conducted with seven distinct market segments served by the institute. The results proved insightful with respect to uncovering and understanding differences of opinion among the seven groups; however, taken alone, the qualitative research would have been very misleading with respect to the institute's standing in the Middle East.

This study aimed to start an effort to evaluate the quality of thesis institutionally. The purpose of this study is to determine the quality of the thesis and determine the achievement of the quality of the thesis as a research work. This study is a descriptive evaluation. The study was conducted at the Department of PAI FITK IAIN Surakarta. The results showed several things. First, the majority of PAI student thesis in 2012 used qualitative research methods. Second, the quality of PAI student thesis in 2012 were generally good, on the thesis that uses quantitative and qualitative research methods. Third, the thesis uses quantitative research methods have a higher quality index than the thesis that uses qualitative research methods. Fourth, for the thesis used quantitative research methods showing the low quality of the elements present in the background of the problem and framework of thinking. Fifth, for the thesis used qualitative research methods showing the low quality of the elements contained in the title of the study andbackground of the problem

Creswell (2002) noted that quantitative research is the process of collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and writing the results of a study, while qualitative research is the approach to data collection, analysis, and report writing differing from the traditional, quantitative approaches. This paper provides a further distinction between quantitative and qualitative research methods. This paper also presents a summary of the different research methods to conduct research in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies.</span></span></p>

Social work students are drawn to qualitative research methods, perhaps because of their experience with interviewing and their interest in process. However, since students need to learn both qualitative and quantitative research methods because both are used in the literature, instructors are challenged to teach both types of methods in one course. The purpose of this article is to illustrate one method used to teach qualitative research methods to undergraduate social work students. The model presents a narrative analysis and moves students from raw data to an analytical model.

In this paper, we show how automation on the side of the quantitative strand of research may help to alleviate this issue. For that purpose, we focus on explanatory sequential designs, where a quantitative strand of research is followed by a qualitative strand of research (Creswell, 2009). This is a common research design found in MMMR where quantitative results are further explained using qualitative methods (Schoonenboom, Johnson, &amp; Froehlich, 2018). For instance, a survey may be followed by in-depth interviews with individuals from the survey population to help with contextualizing and interpreting the results. We report how R Markdown, a tool for report automation based on R (Froehlich, 2018b; Xie, 2013), may be used to increase research efficiency when applying such designs. We strongly believe that the quantitative strands of explanatory sequential designs lend themselves to such automation in order to free up resources for the (often labor intensive) qualitative strand. Next to increasing research efficiency, this measure is also helpful in aiding practitioners that do want to apply scientific methods, but do not possess the necessary in-depth knowledge about (quantitative) research methods.

The aim of this study is trying to measure city life quality and identifying city life factors that can come to the forefront in marketing cities. So, “Deep interview”, one of the qualitative research methods, and survey practice, one of the quantitative research methods, has conducted. In deep interview, formal establishments that has an important role on city life quality has given information about activities that has conducted or being conducted and effect city life quality. So, a face to face survey has conducted to 300 people who live in Kastamonu. For identifying that Kastamonu’s existing powerful features and must be protected and strengthen features, an evaluation about these features has asked to citizens who live in Kastamonu. Results has shown that Kastamonu has important factors about communication opportunities, green areas and parks, water resources, availability for daily consumption goods, an effortless transportation and these factors can be an advantage for marketing Kastamonu.

The general aim of this research is to analyze the graduate dissertations on migration in education and training in Turkey. Dissertations are aimed to be discussed in terms of years, types, departments, research methods, data analysis methods, migration handling methods. This content analysis study has been designed with qualitative research methods. 34 master thesis and 7 doctoral dissertations, totally 41 dissertations on migration on education and training which have been being on YÖK (Higher Education Board) database in Turkey were examined in this research. Research results show that, researchers mostly used qualitative research methods. According to research results, using qualitative research methods in dissertations have been followed by quantitative research methods, survey model, mixed research methods, experimental model, field research and case study. Mostly migration abroad and education, internal migration and reflections on education in various dimensions were investigated in graduate dissertations on migration in education and training in Turkey. In future, thesis on migration in Turkey can be examined on the other fields like economy, sociology, and politics.
