Gilo or Tinospora cordifolia is considered as a wonder drug of Unani System of Medicine because of its broad-spectrum therapeutic properties. It is an herbaceous vine, commonly grown in tropical India, and is being widely used in AYUSH system and unorganized systems (folk, tribal, native) of medicine. It is a storehouse of various phyto constituents like alkaloids, terpenoids, glycosides, hormones, polysaccharides, steroids, minerals etc. Its main pharmacological properties are antipyretic, anti-diabetic, antioxidant, hepato protective etc. Now a days, Gilo is being extensively assessed for its immunomodulator activity and it is proving to be a promising herb in this respect. The current study presents a critical review on the morphology, habitat, phytochemistry, pharmacological actions and therapeutic uses of this medicinal plant as mentioned in the classical literature of Unani System of Medicine as well as to cover its recent researches.

Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) is a medicinal plant used in folk and Ayurvedic medicines throughout India since ancient times. All the parts of the plant are immensely useful due to the presence of different compounds of pharmaceutical importance belonging to various groups as alkaloids, diterpenoid lactones, glycosides, steroids, sesquiterpenoid, and phenolics. These compounds possess pharmacological properties, which make it anti-diabetic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, hepato-protective, and immuno-modulatory. However, due to the increasing population, there is an inadequate supply of drugs. Therefore, this review focuses on phytochemistry, ethnopharmacology, clinical application and its conservation strategies so that the plant can be conserved for future generations and utilized as alternative medicine as well as to design various pharmacologically important drugs.

Background:Tamarix Articulata (T. articulata), commonly known as Tamarisk or Athal in Arabic region, belongs to the Tamaricaece species. It is an important halophytic medicinal plant and a good source of polyphenolic phytochemical(s). In traditional medicines, T. articulata extract is commonly used, either singly or in combination with other plant extracts against different ailments since ancient times.Methods:Electronic database survey via Pubmed, Google Scholar, Researchgate, Scopus and Science Direct were used to review the scientific inputs until October 2018, by searching appropriate keywords. Literature related to pharmacological activities of T. articulata, Tamarix species, phytochemical analysis of T. articulata, biological activities of T. articulata extracts. All of these terms were used to search the scientific literature associated with T. articulata; the dosage of extract, route of administration, extract type, and in-vitro and in-vivo model.Results:Numerous reports revealed that T. articulata contains a wide spectrum of phytochemical(s), which enables it to have a wide window of biological properties. Owing to the presence of high content of phytochemical compounds like polyphenolics and flavonoids, T. articulata is a potential source of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative properties. In view of these pharmacological properties, T. articulata could be a potential drug candidate to treat various clinical conditions including cancer in the near future.Conclusion:In this review, the spectrum of phytochemical(s) has been summarized for their pharmacological properties and the mechanisms of action, and the possible potential therapeutic applications of this plant against various diseases discussed.

The species Chiliadenus glutinosus (L.) Fourr. has a large number of therapeutic uses reported in the traditional Spanish medicine. The growing interest in preserving the ethnopharmacological knowledge related to the botanical diversity existing in Spain and the interest in achieving scientific validation of the therapeutic properties of medicinal species has led to the development of this study. To do it, all the known medicinal uses of Ch. glutinosus in Spain were compiled, then an exhaustive bibliographic research on its chemical composition was carried out, and finally, an in silico validation of the bioactive phytochemicals present in a higher proportion in the essential oil of Ch. glutinosus: camphor, borneol, lucinone, glutinone, quercetin, kutdtriol, and kaempferol; in an attempt to justify the reported traditional uses of the species. It was found that much of the traditional medicinal uses of Ch. glutinosus, along with the biological activity of its phytochemicals, are supported by scientific evidence. The results place this species in a prominent position to initiate possible lines of research to develop new, more effective drugs and improve therapies to treat conditions and diseases that affect the different organic systems of the human being.

Several biologically active alkaloids (1-4, 6), including a new quinazoline-6-carboxylic acid (1), were isolated from the medicinal plant Zanthoxylum rhetsa, an evergreen tree, native to subtropical areas. Whereas the pharmacological properties of the plant extract and single constituents have been widely tested, we now show that all of the metabolites have antialgal activities, all but 6 are antibacterial, and 6 and the reduction product 5 (derived from 4) are also antifungal.

The Mauritian population has a long tradition in the use of ethno-medicine, and the practice is still strong, especially in the treatment of minor ailments. Such interest stems from an existing culture, and many “tisanes” are still prepared from plant materials and sold in several markets around the island.This paper will focus on the various chemical/biological screening techniques currently being used to evaluate the biological properties of medicinal plant extracts. Particular emphasis will be put on extraction and various screening for biological/pharmacological properties. Due consideration will be given to the pharmacological approaches that utilize different animal models for the in vitro and in vivo screening of medicinal plant extracts.

Cichorium intybus is commonly known as Chicory, kasani. It is a recognized medicinal plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family. This plant is a well-known traditional herb used in various medicinal systems like Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medicinal system to treat variety of diseases ranging from wounds to diabetes. The species is native to the European region (Mediterranean region) but can also grow in the temperate and semi-arid regions. The juice extracted from this plant is used as a traditional remedy to cure uterus cancer and tumors. The plant is well-known for its roots that are used as an additive in coffee as it provides bitterness in taste without the caffeine. It is also reported that the roots of the plant contain 40% inulin and acts as an anti-diabetic agent. Historically, the plant was cultivated by ancient Egyptians as a medicinal plant, vegetable crop, coffee substitute and also used as animal forage. Cichorium intybus contains various phytochemical constituents mainly sesquiterpene lactones, caffeic acid derivatives, inulin flavonoids, alkaloids, phenols, steroids terpenoids and many more. The reported pharmacological properties of the C. intybus plant include hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic, anti-cancerous, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, cardiovascular, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anthelmintic, antimalarial, anti-allergic and gastroprotective activities. In this review article, the medicinal and ayurvedic importance of C. intybus plant along with its phytochemicals are briefly explained.

The main objective of this review article is to discuss the therapeutic uses of Rudra Parpati and to discuss the different pharmacological properties and therapeutic uses of isolated constituent drugs of Rudra Parpati. The authentic subject material has been reviewed from Ayurveda and modern medical literature. Different research and review articles were searched in different journals. The subject material has also been searched on the internet. This review is mainly focused on different aspects of herbo mineral Ayurvedic formulation Rudra Parpati. Parpati rasayana is one among Chaturvidha Rasayana Kalpa which is very effective and can be prepared with less effort. In Ayurveda Rudra Parpati is mentioned in the management of Kasa/cough. Though it is popular as only Parpati used in Kharapaka form & having an indication other than Grahani but still an unexplored treasure with unique therapeutic utility. Hence an attempt has been made to address the therapeutic uses of Rudra Parpati and the probable mode of action of its constituent drugs. Keywords: Rudraparpati, Vataja Kasa.

В статье рассматриваются биологические и экологические особенности цистанхе, а также предусматривается этноботанические исследования, рекомендации по рациональному использованию. Выявлены некоторые значения Cistanchе, которое произрастает в Казахстане. Определена область использования в народной медицине цистанхе из семейства Orobanchaceae. В исследовании показана роль цистанхе, как растения с широким спектром фармакологических свойств. Проведен анализ маршрутно-рекогносцировочных исследований популяции цистанхе, определены распределение, запасы и объемы ежегодных заготовок по основным расположенным флористическим районам. Проведен расчет среднего суммарного объема заготовок сырья, собранных в Прибалхашье Алматинской области. В настоящее время в результате глобального потепления климатические условия меняются, и многие виды растений вымирают. Поэтому защита и эффективное использование растений является одной из самых актуальных проблем. Также важно изучить цистанхе, используемый в народной медицине как лекарственное растение. The article discusses the biological and ecological features of cistanche, as well as provides for ethnobotanical research, recommendations for rational use. Some values of Cistanche, which grows in Kazakhstan, are revealed. The scope of use in folk medicine of cistanha from the family Orobanchaceae is determined. The study shows the role of cistanche as a plant with a wide range of pharmacological properties. Conducted analysis of route-reconnaissance studies of cisterna populations, determined the distribution, stock and volumes of annual preparations for the main floristic areas. Calculated the average total volume of raw materials collected in the Balkhash region of Almaty region. As a result of global warming, climatic conditions are changing and many plant species are dying. Therefore, the protection and efficient use of plants is one of the most pressing problems. It is also important to study the tanks used in folk medicine as a medicinal plant.
