General Didactic Principles About University Education in Music in the Midst of a Pandemic

This article discusses some of the most important prerequisites for building and organizing the didactic structure of music education at the university level in the midst of a pandemic. The emphasis is on the methodology in designing online learning. The principles of carrying out the preliminary preparation for the transition to the new synchronous1 and asynchronous2 training are described. The basic rules for building and organizing online lectures in the conditions of distance learning are systematized. Models for asynchronous lectures according to already established principles are presented. An analysis of the difficulties and dangers of constant home office work has been performed. The authors of this article share their pedagogical experience regarding the specifics of conducting individual and group music disciplines in the context of distance learning, giving basic recommendations on the structuring of the learning process, which can be used not only in a pandemic situation, but also in the future for more flexible, modern and effective education related to constantly improving technologies.

The emergence of distance learning has brought to the fore new responsibilities and challenges that must be taken into consideration by educators especially at the university level (White, 2003; Larreamendy-Joerns & Leinhardt, 2006). Thus, two main questions might need to be risen: what are the new roles of educators with regard to distance learning? Also, what are the challenges that face educators in distance learning? Hence, the present paper goes through the new roles and responsibilities that distance learning educators need to bear in mind to make an outstanding contribution in the learning process. Basically, educators are in dire need of the use of new mediums and skills. Additionally, this paper deals with the main challenges facing educators in the area of distance learning. The emergence of the latter comes not to be free of some constraints including issues related to planning, teaching, and evaluating. Raising an explicit awareness towards these responsibilities and challenges plays a tremendous role in promoting the status of distance learning. This paper provides beneficial implications for educators, curriculum designers, and stakeholders in that it provides a good platform to reconsider serious issues related to distance learning education.

The article deals with the most important aspects to organize distance learning on the base of the Sayano-Shushenskaya branch of the Siberian Federal University, the experience of using MOODLE digital platform is described. Such a platform the possibility and peculiarities to conduct online lectures and practical classes, coursework, examinations of graphic disciplines are considered. The purpose of this article is to analyze the problems and effectiveness of distance learning in the study of graphic disciplines of students of the Sayano-Shushenskaya branch of SFU in the period of the coronavirus pandemic. Research methodology and methods. When performing and testing graphical works in a remote format, there were certain difficulties, which required the leadership of the university to change the curriculum, where the study of ACAD must be moved earlier in the term from the third semester to the second and combined with a parallel study of engineering graphics. Results of the study. The organization. and introduction of distance learning in the pandemic period allows to analyze adequately the possibilities of working in MOODLE platform just with graphical documents, on such disciplines as “Engineering Graphics”, “Technical Mechanics”, “Machine Parts”. To build the learning process in such a way as to prepare students to perform complex engineering tasks, such as course design. To increase motivation and information component in the study of graphic disciplines. The temporal order of studying the disciplines is determines and the study of the AutoCAD graphic program exactly in the period of engineering graphics learning is provided. The conclusion it is concluded that, the successful learning of graphic disciplines in distance learning will contribute to the mastery of AutoCAD by students at the initial stage, to perform individual graphic tasks and check the correctness of their solutions.

The present study examines the impact of the online archiving system developed at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on the in-class students enrolled in traditional math courses. A web survey has been designed for collecting data on potential changes in attitudes and behaviors (such as study habits), on the dynamics of professor-student relation, and on overall student performance enhancement. The results indicate that the presence of the archived lectures and lecture notes adds significant value to the learning process with notable improvements in the perceived student performance and overall experience in the class.

Dhofar region in southern Oman possesses a wealth of livestock. This wealth is managed traditionally by different Dhofari groups in a distinct landscape and ecological conditions. By the seventies, development addressed all aspects of live in the Sultanate. Education turned out to be a prime objective in development plans. In Dhofar, young generations of pastoralists found their way into education. It is known that the route of education starts directly from primary school level to the university level. Consequently, theoretical university education detach and disengage young Dhofaris from their forefathers’ traditional profession and most of all their wealth. Dhofar’s livestock is unequivocally a national wealth that needs to be invested and developed by young Dhofari generations, trained in modern scientific management in order to investment in Dhofar’s livestock . Therefore, it is a call for a focused education and training to address the potential of the region and its wealth. The paper attempts to draw attention to a situation which is taking place in Dhofar region and proposes certain recommendations.

The article presents the findings of the comparative study of the indices of psychological security of educational environment in the context of face-to-face and distance learning formats. The study has revealed the decrease in the level of resistance to psychological violence from teachers, and that of satisfaction with significant attributes of education environment during a distance learning period. It has been proved that psychology students demonstrate weakening of the learning activity significance and lack of face-to-face trustful communication with a teacher. Most differences have been revealed on the behavior component of the attitude towards university education environment: a positive attitude lessened, while a neutral one rose. The indices of the attitude towards education environment on the cognitive component were also high: a neutral level increased

Nowadays University education is usually eminently expositive, being necessary to change this approach to achieve greater dynamism and motivation. This article describes a project whose objective is to integrate the Flipped Classroom methodology into University music education through the use of technological applications to make and manage videos. The document describes the methodology of the project and the ICT tools used in it. University students have answered two different questionnaires, before and after the project. Their analysis provides information on the initial experience and perception of students in ICT and the Flipped Classroom approach and examines the usefulness of the tools used to carry out this methodology. The data provided by the students show that the technological resources used have favoured the autonomy, the continuous work, the motivation of the students and the deepening in the contents of the subjects. The benefit of these ICT for the implementation of the Flipped Classroom approach is highlighted, being valued as an active methodology that optimizes the University educative process.

The aim of the current research was to identify the students’ subjective experience of the transforming learning environment according to the perceived opportunities provided by the digital learning environment of the university.Methodology and research methods. The research methodological framework is based on leading theories related to the students’ behaviour in digital learning environments (DLE). The synthesis of the theories considered made it possible to propose a theoretical model of the students’ subjective experiences in relation to DLE of the university, which was operationalised by constructing a questionnaire that reveals the students’ perception of the main components of the DLE. The following methods were employed: a questionnaire on alienation from study, a method for the assessment of students’ subjective experiences, and the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). Previous distance learning experience was identified by the use of self-rating scales. The survey results were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient, the Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, and the Pearson’s chi-squared test. The authors also used factorial ANOVA, correspondence analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. Statistical calculations were performed using Statistica ver. 7.0 (Statsoft). 4558 students from 30 Russian universities (located in 23 subjects of Russia) took part in the research.Results. The present research demonstrated a change in the usual forms of learning activities carried out by students in the distance learning process. Distance learning is presented to students as a basis for meeting the need for subjectivity of their personality, the ability to initiate their own learning activities. Students feel that there are sufficient conditions and resources for mastering digital learning tools, and they easily adapt to the digital environment of their universities. However, in this process, the student acts as an atomised subject, weakly interacting with other people and not feeling a sense of interpersonal closeness and connectedness with others.The research findings revealed that the perceived characteristics of the DLE of the university have a direct impact on the inner states of students in the learning process. The formation of a stable social environment within the framework of the DLE, which ensures harmonious interaction and communication between the subjects of the educational process, contributes to achieving an optimal balance of students’ subjective experiences, reduces the risk of negative inner states that lead to learning demotivation, the experience of alienation from study, the growing sense of meaninglessness and emptiness in the learning process.Scientific novelty. The developed model of the influence of DLE on the subjective experiences of students in the emergence distance learning made it possible to identify significant DLE components, which determine the motivational and emotional states of students, and to establish student ratio to achieve the optimal balance of subjective experiences.Practical significance. The empirically based findings presented in this study can be used to design the DLE of the university, to determine the directions of work on the formation of psychological readiness of students for distance learning.

The educational system in Japan has traditionally been focused on the “one nation, one language” ideology. This has led to the marginalization of indigenous and immigrant languages. As a consequence, heritage speakers are dealing with the loss of their heritage languages. However, there are isolated movements addressing the maintenance of the heritage languages, though they haven’t had a long-lasting effect on the educational system. In an attempt to contribute to reversing this language and identity loss, we based our research on two main points: 1) the belief that creating an informed partnership will help heritage language speakers (HLS) to integrate in the mainstream education space (Cummins, 2014) and 2) confidence in the importance of interconnecting the isolated movements for language maintenance. Would it be possible to achieve it in the Japanese educational context? Can we start scaffolding this new structure of informed partnership from the university level? In order to try to prove this point of view successfully, this article describes the creation at the university level of a class about Heritage languages and speakers in Japan, inspired by the Content and Language Integrated Learning model (CLIL). This class was meant to support and interact with another class called “Spanish for heritage students” that was developed at the same university. The student population is 14, almost half of them with a heritage language or culture. The course duration was one semester. The contents that were selected to reach the class goals are mentioned, as well as some points of view regarding what should be done to shift the Japanese educational system from a homogeneous stance to a multicultural inclusive posture. And in such a short time we could evidence an evolution in students’ critical awareness of the current immigrants’ heritage language and cultural situation in Japan. Working with specific vocabulary, reading from authentic sources, discussing contemporary articles among them, they could give shape to their thoughts in Spanish in order to express their opinions and possible solutions to this important matter.

The concept of“academic dishonesty” is analyzed, the main types and specific empirical manifestations of unscrupulous educational practices of students are highlighted. Examples of manifestations of academic oddity by students during distance learning are given, risks and threats to the university education system coupled with this phenomenon are noted.

This paper argues that the lack of serious attempts to incorporate Islamic studies in Kenya’s academic culture can best be understood by looking at the colonial and postcolonial policies toward university education there. The early missionary influence that shaped the nature of the indigenous educational system had a farreaching impact upon creating a culture of resistance among Muslims toward western education. In the postcolonial period, the new governments tried to create a level playing field for all of their citizens, regardless of religious orientation. But the colonial imapct had already left its mark on Muslims in terms of their visibility at the university level. The Kenyan government did not interfere in what academic programs should be prioritized at this level. But because Christians outnumbered Muslims in academia, their influence created a dearth of indigenous university-generated information and knowledge on Muslim institutions and society. This gap was left to foreign researchers to fill. As a result, Kenya has no indigenous Islamic intellectual culture. If this status quo does not change, Kenyan Muslims will remain vulnerable to foreign Islamist influences.
