There are abundant genetic resources of Populus in southwest China, which play an important role in scientific research and practical application. These resources are unfamiliar to the rest of the world and their value has not been widely appreciated; hence the purpose of this paper is to present the resources to the world, and to encourage more attention to be paid to them. There are 28 species, 20 varieties, and about 10 natural hybrids of Populus in the region. Of the 28 species, 25 are endemic to China, and 18 of them are indigenous to southwest China. So the region is regarded as one of the natural distribution and variation centres for Populus in China. The species fall into three floristic types: China–Japan, China–Himalayas, and ancient tropical; and show an obvious zonation in horizontal and vertical distribution with excellent adaptability to a wide range of environments. At present, only a few species are generally recognized, and to some extent grown and utilized, while most of them are still in natural conditions but face severe threat. It is therefore urgent to recognize, conserve and utilize these significant poplar resources.

After four years of the official opening of ARID (Arabic Researcher ID) platform, the number of its users exceeded 44 thousand who can speak Arabic from all over the world. ARID platform is the first Arabic platform to serve scientific research in a way that keeps pace with technical development, which made the access to the scientific research available to all users. The study aims to introduce ARID platform in the language of numbers to transmit a statistical picture for the scientists, experts and researchers on the first digital platform for Arabic speakers and how it can be benefit from this experience and data analysis in digital platforms that serve the Arabic language. The study concluded several results, however, the most important of which is that the number of users on ARID platform is increasing dramatically, and their numbers vary in different countries and universities. The platform included a wide range of various disciplines, most notably the specializations of educational sciences, sciences, arts, and political sciences, with a large number of holders of higher degrees (masters and doctorate), as they exceeded eight thousand users. Participation in conferences tops the list of academic activities, followed by the participation in scientific courses. Meanwhile, the number of scientific publications on the platform exceeded 12 thousand, and on top of them were the articles that published in scientific journals, where the number exceeded nine thousand research papers. In addition, 36 types of academic activities have been keyed in, including publishing books and participating in conferences and seminars. In conclusion, the researchers recommended that the awareness of joining the platform should be spread among Arabic-speaking researchers in all countries of the world to preserve the Arab identity, share scientific interests, and enrich Arabic content with scientific researches.

Abstract

The application of the definitions on access to genetic resources (AGR) contained in national or Community legislation may affect the
scientific research (non-commercial and commercial). The article describes the importance of coloristics. Color is an integral part that forms a complete image of the world. It can unite urban ensembles, to bear the emotional and aesthetic burden. Color fills the world with expressiveness. The various functions of light in a person's life help to reveal the concepts of a color phenomenon, which contains a mixture of colors, the theory of color harmonies, manifested in the spiritual and material qualities of being. The color phenomenon is association formed in the consciousness. An important aspect in the formation of architectural space is the color of the object-spatial environment. This is a system that includes the color environment of natural objects and the human made architecture. Creative experience and scientific research in the field of color solutions are used for the successful design of the subject-spatial environment. In architecture, color is manifested in terms of aesthetic and psychological approaches. Any activity to create color solutions of the architectural space aims to meet the aesthetic requirements. In addition, coloristics must consider the function of objects, their design and features of the object concept in order to solve a wide range of issues.

Abstract. In 2018, 70 years have passed since the beginning of observations at the Kolyma Water-Balance Station (KWBS), a unique scientific research hydrological and permafrost catchment. The volume and duration (50 continuous years) of hydrometeorological standard and experimental data, characterizing the natural conditions and processes occurring in mountainous permafrost conditions, significantly exceed any counterparts elsewhere in the world. The data are representative of mountainous territory of the North-East of Russia. In 1997, the station was terminated, thereby leaving Russia without operating research watersheds in the permafrost zone. This paper describes the dataset containing the series of daily runoff from 10 watersheds with an area from 0.27 to 21.3 km2, precipitation, meteorological observations, evaporation from soil and snow, snow surveys, soil thaw and freeze depths, and soil temperature for the period 1948–1997. It also highlights the main historical stages of the station's existence, its work and scientific significance, and outlines the prospects for its future, where the Kolyma Water-Balance Station could be restored to the status of a scientific research watershed and become a valuable international centre for hydrological research in permafrost. The data are available at https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.881731.

Weierstrassian Lévy walks are the archetypical form of random walk that do not satisfy the central limit theorem and are instead characterized by scale invariance. They were originally regarded as a mathematical abstraction but subsequent theoretical studies showed that they can, in principle, at least, be generated by chaos. Recently, Weierstrassian Lévy walks have been found to provide accurate representations of the movement patterns of mussels ( Mytilus edulis ) and mud snails ( Hydrobia ulvae ) recorded in the laboratory under controlled conditions. Here, we tested whether Weierstrassian Lévy walks and chaos are present under natural conditions in intertidal limpets Patella vulgata and P. rustica, and found that both characteristics are pervasive. We thereby show that Weierstrassian Lévy walks may be fundamental to how molluscs experience and interact with the world across a wide range of ecological contexts. We also show in an easily accessible way how chaos can produce a wide variety of Weierstrassian Lévy walk movement patterns. Our findings support the Lévy flight foraging hypothesis that posits that because Lévy walks can optimize search efficiencies, natural selection should have led to adaptations for Lévy walks.

English. An inventory of Pteridophyta was begun in the forests of the Tlemcen region. We so made the inventory and the identification of the existing ferns in the region of Tlemcen. On the whole, several stations the ecological characteristics differ from a site in the other one were canvassed; they allowed the identification of 26 taxes (among which 5 exceptionally rare). The creation of forest nature reserves strengthened by a statutory protection of the most threatened species is necessary for the preservation of these particular communities.

Botanic gardens, with their large holdings of living plants collected from around the world, are important guardians of plant biodiversity, but acquiring and curating these genetic resources is enormously expensive. For these reasons it is crucial that botanic gardens document and curate their collections in order to gain the greatest benefit from the plants in their care. Great priority is given to making detailed field notes and the process of documentation is often continued during the plants formative years when being propagated. However, for the large majority of plants this process often stops once the material is planted in its final garden location. The Data Capture Project at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is an attempt to document specific aspects of the plant collections so that the information captured can be of use to the research community even after the plants have died.
