Building extension into S&T: Is this the missing link?
Extension is a multi-faceted learning discipline. It is a process that works with people and the best available science and information to achieve a desired change. While science and technology provide information and tools to support sustainable development, it is the extension of this knowledge to those who must make decisions that enables innovation and sustainable forest management. There are many attempts at improving the links between the forest science and technology community, and the forest policy and management communities. It is time to make a long-term investment in forestry extension infrastructure to enable a science and knowledge-based innovative sector.
