The Barisan Nasional (BN), Malaysia's dominant coalition party that has ruled since 1957, lost the 14th general election. Various analyses were conducted, and many discussions centred on Chinese voters who had switched to opposition, Pakatan Harapan, and rejected BN entirely. This situation raises an interesting discussion about what prompted Chinese voters to make drastic changes in this ethnic-based country's politics. This study, therefore, focuses on whether political socialization in social media will build a political opportunity for Malaysian Chinese. In investigating how social media propaganda can provide Malaysian Chinese a political viewpoint, these studies argue that the internet and social media have led to unparalleled complexity in Malaysia's political socialization process. A bottom-up, constructivist approach is used to decide how social media played their position as Malaysian political socializers.

The study aims to explore the perspectives of Omani viewers on the role of Omani mass media in the political socialization process. The study uses a questionnaire with a sample of 300 respondents, divided into six categories: academics, members of the Council of Oman, media specialists, administrators in the public and private sectors, political and military leaders, and university students. The results of this exploratory study show that respondents generally rate mass media as the first institution of political socialization. The reason for this result may be attributed to the ability of mass media to influence and shape political views, due to their wide coverage and diversity of content. The results also indicate that forming intellectual and political perspectives represents the primary role of institutions concerned with political socialization. With respect to the various manifestations of political socialization practices, the results show that the elections are the main embodiment of such political socialization practices. This can perhaps be attributed to the citizens’ interest in the political process and their active participation in the elections. The results also show some differences in the views of the respondents regarding the role of the Omani mass media in political socialization.

Despite the ubiquity of health-related communications via social media, no consensus has emerged what information should be conveyed and how it should be conveyed to avoid creating panic among general population. With lockdowns social media, mass media became as a habit by people for news, information regarding COVID-19 and it is practiced even after lockdown. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mass media, social media and local news has become as the source of a toxic “infodemic” source for public. It contained both solicited and unsolicited advice. No conceptual model exists for examining the roles of media. It is important to rst assess the important mis-information, role of infodemics and prevalent casualness among the public regarding the COVID-19. Till mass vaccination is not commenced it is prudent to emphasize guidelines and practices as per COVID guidelines like social distancing, wearing mask, hand hygiene

Abstract. Inundations and landslides are common phenomena that cause serious damage and pose a severe threat to the population of Italy. The societal and economic impact of landslides and floods in Italy is particularly severe, and strategies that target the mitigation of the effects of these events are essential. Although, in the last few years, the scientific community has wanted to communicate information on research activities regarding geo-hydrological hazards and the associated risks to society through thematic websites, very often, communication achieves specific technical purposes for experts. To address the problem posed by the lack of communication on geo-hydrological hazards with potential human consequences in Italy to the broader society, we designed the POLARIS website. The POLARIS website publishes accurate and detailed information on geo-hydrological risks, including periodical reports on landslide and flood risk to the population of Italy, data and analysis on specific damaging events and blog posts on landslide and flood events that able to encourage mass media and citizens' engagement. By monitoring the access of users to POLARIS since January 2014, when the website was published, we registered maximum access during the occurrence of the worst geo-hydrological events and for the promotion of relevant new content through press releases. In particular, in the latter case, we noted the highest access value when journalists promoted the website through television channels. The POLARIS initiative demonstrates how the scientific community can implement suitable communication strategies that address different societal audiences by exploiting the role of mass media and social media. These strategies can help these audiences to understand how risks can be reduced through appropriate measures and behaviors; thus, they can contribute to increasing the resilience of the population to geo-hydrological events.

Women rights have always been a debatable issue in almost every society. Being a watchdog, media is expected to give voice to all members of the society regardless of their gender, background and ethnicity. Media can play a vigorous role to educating people about women-rights by addressing their concerns and anxieties. This study aims to investigate the role of mass media (i.e. television, newspapers and social media) and interpersonal communication in promoting awareness about woman rights in Pakistan. Using quantitative survey method with a sample of N=358, results of One-way ANOVA show comparison among various types of media. The study figured out that mass media in Pakistan especially print media, play a positive role in promoting awareness about women rights. However, the role of interpersonal communication has been found more effective as compared to new and old media. The study also expresses that demographics play significant role to attaining the awareness about women rights.

We present a classification of the types of censorship of media to frame the various issues that journalism and freedom of expression face in Mexico, which mainly include the role of the State in preventing or enforcing censorship, the monopoly of a few corporate groups that control most of the mass media and dictate fixed editorial lines throughout all of them, the effect of violence on journalism and the issues that are emerging around the freedom of expression in social media.

Chapter 6 focuses on the role of a changing media landscape in disseminating misinformation to a disproportionately underinformed audience to support Donald Trump. It shows how the Trump campaign and its allies, including the contract firm Cambridge Analytica as well as Russian operatives, exploited the changing media landscape to spread misinformation to sow racial division and stoke white outgroup hostility. The chapter examines the nexus between Fox News, fake news, and Trump to provide evidence of the specific connection that demonstrates the key role of the mass media, social media included, in disseminating misinformation about outgroups and sustaining high levels of outgroup hostility among whites.
