We examine the social antecedents of contributing to campaigns, with a particular focus on the role of population density and social networking opportunities. Using 10 years of US campaign contribution data from the Federal Election Commission and a national survey of party leaders, we find that recruiting contributors is easier in a densely populated region, where the daily opportunity of individuals being exposed to the same information via their social networks is high. Furthermore, the effect of population density is heterogeneous with respect to mobility: if a region has substantial commuting outflow, the chance of being mobilized from the place of residence decreases, but the chance of mobilization in their place of work increases. This analysis also reveals differences between political parties. Democrats are more dependent on social networking in population dense areas. This difference in the importance of social networking opportunities present in geographical space helps explain macro-level patterns in party fundraising.

Possibilities of hyperlink application in spatial researchThe main aim of the paper is to show the selected ways of analysing, the possible interpretations and expectations concerning the analyses of hyperlinks in spatial research. The connections existing in cyberspace for selected self-government websites of Lower Silesia were shown to illustrate the issue. The analyses were conducted for selected websites of self-government units at all levels functioning in Lower Silesia. The paper presents two approaches to the analysis of hyperlinks: analysis of outlinks and inlinks. The presented results allow us to identify some regularities regarding the functioning of connections in cyberspace versus the connections in the real world. From the perspective of self-government websites it can be concluded that the connections in cyberspace reflect the real connections. In the majority of the analysed cases there is a clear connection with the actual scope of activity. The remaining relationships with administrative cities reflect the significance of these cities for the functioning of self-government units in the social, economic, legal, and administrative conditions. Based on the conducted analyses it can be concluded that the study of hyperlinks may be useful in understanding the relationships between geographical space and cyberspace. They may form a new, interesting field of spatial research. We also found some challenges in the study of hyperlinks' spatial aspects: the identification of consistent criteria for determining the websites' ‘location in space’, the possibility of interpreting the research results and the dynamics of the Internet.

ABSTRACT: Assuming that ali theology is social and that society is a complex and conflicting reality, the article confronts the problem of social place that Christian theology should occupy: from where and to whom. The article begins by explaining in what sense we speak of social place (physical-geographical space, social position or situation, intellectual point of view). Next, this point is confronted with the problematic of the social place of Theology and clarify in what sense the world of poor and downtrodden constitutes the fimdamental place of Christian theology: a privileged place of real access to the Kingdom of God (its issue or "object "); fundamental orientation of doing theological (for whom); the most appropriate place of Historicizing and verification of theological theory (its truth); principie and criteríon of "de-ideologization" of theology (its test of fire).

As stated in the introduction, this book’s chapters stand both as individual essays and as coordinated parts. While each of the chapters offers its own topic-specific interpretations and conclusions, when the chapters are read together, they provide answers to several overarching questions. They emphasize the relationship between geographical space and human actions, they put Cuba in its broader Caribbean and Atlantic contexts, they examine complex interactions among diverse racial and ethnic groups, they trace the development of distinctive economic systems and social structures, and they discuss the genesis of a variegated Cuban identity and culture(s) that are the result of transculturation among three primary cultural roots, themselves the product of centuries of transculturation in the Amerindian Caribbean, Iberia, and western Africa. The book thus is built on the premise that understanding Cuba’s complex early history requires consideration of many interrelated aspects—a “total history” approach, to use the terminology of the Annales school—that connects the geographical, the economic, the political, the social, and the cultural....

This article outlines a new method for investigating social position through geo-tagged Twitter data, specifically through the application of the geodemographic classification system Mosaic. The method involves the identification of a given tweeter’s likely location of residence from the ‘geo-tag’ attached to their tweet. Using this high-resolution geographic information, each individual tweet is then attributed a geodemographic classification. This article shows that the specific application of geodemographics for discerning between different types of tweeters is problematic in some ways, but that the general process of classifying tweeters according to their position in geographical space is viable and represents a powerful new method for discerning the social position of tweeters. Further research is required in this area, as there is great potential in employing the mobile global positioning system data appended to digital by-product data to explore the intersections between geographical space and social position.

PurposeRooted in the social identity theory (SIT), the study analysed the effect of consumer ethnocentrism as well as other factors on the purchase of labelled regional agricultural products together with the readiness to purchase the labelled regional products at a premium price in Germany.Design/methodology/approachThe determinants of the consumption of labelled regional agricultural products and the readiness to pay a premium price for the same in Southwestern Germany were analysed via both probit and ordered probit regressions, respectively.FindingsConsumer ethnocentrism influences the purchase of labelled regional agricultural products as well as the readiness to purchase at a premium price. Also, consumer socioeconomic and product characteristics and knowledge and perceived benefits of regional products had a divergent influence on the purchase and readiness to purchase labelled regional agricultural products at a premium price.Research limitations/implicationsIn terms of limitation, even though the sample size was proper, it could be improved in other studies to validate the findings. Also, the study was limited to a limited number of counties in Southwestern Germany; hence future studies could explore a more extensive geographical space within the region.Practical implicationsThe results can serve as a good source of information for improving the marketing of regional agricultural products. This study recommends that regional producers and marketers brand regional products with the region's name to capitalise on consumers' ethnocentric tendencies in the region. Further, regional products have to be sold in places where consumers with a certain degree of ethnocentrism are present. Results provided by this study are commonly applicable for all products, regardless of the type and regional origin, so that product-specific studies are no longer necessary, which reduces redundancy and marketing research costs, which are difficult to bear for small producers.Originality/valueGermany has benefited immensely from the boom of regional marketing in Europe. Likewise, in Southwestern Germany, there is a growing interest in the production and marketing of regional products. As a result, several studies have investigated the factors influencing the purchasing of regional products in Germany. Nevertheless, literature and studies on the effect of ethnocentrism on the purchasing of regional agricultural products in Southwestern Germany are scanty.

This article seeks to revisit the French social space 30 years after Pierre Bourdieu first mapped it in Distinction. Using data from the International Social Survey Programme, it deploys geometric data analysis to construct a model of the space of class positions that is remarkably similar in its structure to that presented by Bourdieu despite three decades of economic transformation. The relationship with occupational groups and geographical space is also familiar, though gender and, to a greater extent, age are perhaps more prominent than when Bourdieu was writing. The article then goes on to demonstrate the multidimensional nature of symbolic violence, in the form of perception of one’s place, and the manner in which social reproduction is misrecognised. On the latter point, it transpires that while there is recognition of unfair advantage, not only is faith in meritocracy the prevailing view but the dominated are the most likely to deny that having educated parents makes a difference to whether one ‘gets ahead’ or not.

Foi observado também que o NEDET melhorou as atividades do Colegiado Territorial sendo avaliado como excelente.</p><pre><strong>Abstract:</strong> Territory is more than a simple geographical space, resulting from social relations developed between the different agents, mediated by power and projected in a given portion of the geographical space that becomes territory and the idea of power relations between the different agents involved in the process. The implementation of an Extension Nucleus in Territorial Development (NEDET) sought to advise and support the actions in the territory in its different activities, in addition to providing technical assistance, training and university extension. The objective of this study is to verify in the territory of Cariri Oriental Paraibano questions related to the Social Management Index (IGS), through the application of a specific questionnaire in a quantitative and, mainly, qualitative way, as well as verify the performance of NEDET in its period of performance in said territory. A total of 49 questionnaires were applied with representatives of the 15 municipalities in the territory of Cariri Oriental Paraibano. The results showed that the Collegiate presents an empowerment in the actions developed as territory with increasingly understood agents of the process and can help in the development of specific and effective public policies. It was also observed that the NEDET improved the activities of the Territorial Collegiate being evaluated as excellent.</pre>

Poetry is one of the most vibrant artistic forms for socio-economic and political reconstruction of society among the Tiv of North Central Nigeria. The poets fix themselves in the forefront of arousing and propagating cultural consciousness, exposing vices, extolling virtues and personalities with such attributes, mobilizing people for unity and development, ensuring progressive change, maintaining social order and cohesion, unmasking socio-economic contradictions of class and polity, expressing the unheard voices of the voiceless in society and charting out a direction for the future of society. By reflecting the jeers, fears, aspirations, visions and general character of the society, they occupy a popular place and position in the social structure of Tiv society and their poetry is reinvigorated, in the usual popular way, in the new sensibilities of the digital technology being they dynamic in thematic exploration, traditional or modern. This article presents an exploratory overview of Tiv poetry in its changing digital forms of "secondary orality" which not only preserve the material but transform its productive, aesthetic and performance bounds to unending digital spaces creating in the wake a new character, a special effect, a new transmitting and storage pattern and the commodification of an individual's creations. The paper finally locates digi-orature, this new way of interrogating oral poets and their creations, within the ambience of postmodernity capable of attracting audiences outside the Tiv linguistic and geographical space.
