Abstract: Cutting forces during drilling and selected physical and mechanical properties of the finish coating based on epoxy resin. Paper presents selected tests of epoxy resin coating applied to American walnut wood (Juglans nigra L.). The aim of the study was to assess the machinability of wood flooded with resin during drilling. The axial forces and torque values were adopted for the machinability criteria. The idea of the research was the thesis questioning the possibility of processing epoxy resin coatings with the application of tools and parameters used during wood processing. In addition, the influence of UV light on the obtained coating was examined and abrasion tests were carried out. It was found the resin changes its colour under the influence of UV radiation, but the change is imperceptible to an average observer. Epoxy resin is characterized by low abrasion resistance compared to commonly used paint and varnish coatings. Although solid resin is characterized by high cutting resistance while drilling, the force values do not exceed the commonly cut wood-based materials.

Phenol novolac epoxy resin is a polymer matter which its properties can be modified for industrial needs. In this research, nanocomposites of phenol novolac epoxy resin and unsaturated polyester are made nano Bentonite and silica nanoparticles as filler. For this purpose, effect of nanoparticles percent on nanocomposite formation is studied and their physical, mechanical and thermal properties are obtained. The presence of unsaturated polyester in this process forms a cross-link capable of improving the physical and mechanical properties of epoxy resin. Fracture behavior was determined by a SEM device. Moreover, TGA, DSC, impact tests and bending test were applied for data analysis. When process ability is growing, moisture absorption decreases. Fracture toughness was also evaluated in a stoichiometric network. Physical and mechanical properties improve significantly with increasing nanoparticles. The most important reason for using this nanocomposite is its high resistance to corrosion.

Effect of thermomechanical densification of pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) on cutting forces and roughness during milling. The paper presents the results of research concerning the assessment of machinability of pine wood thermomechanically compacted. The assessment was made on the basis of the cutting forces and surface roughness after the milling process. Selected properties of native and modified wood were examined. Based on the research, it was found that compacted wood is characterized by higher cutting forces during milling. The surface quality after milling was examined and the roughness index Ra values were determined. The research shows that the modified wood is characterized by a lower Ra value both along and across the grain. Statistical analysis showed that the modification had a statistically significant effect on the values of cutting forces and the physical and mechanical properties of the tested wood.

This research evaluated, with the of the analyses of variance (ANOVA), a composite material based on epoxy matrix phase reinforced with Portland cement (CP-II) particles (0%wt [100%wt of resin], 20%wt, 40%wt, 60%wt). The response-variable investigated were modulus of elasticity (E) and compressive strength (S), bulk density (ρB), apparent density (ρA) and porosity (P). The highest values of the modulus of elasticity were provided from the composites manufactured with 40wt% of cement addition. The inclusion of 60% of cement implies in a reduction in the mechanical properties when compared with the results of the composite manufactured with 40% of cement. For the physical properties, the gradually inclusion of cement provides increasing in the density of the composites, and reduce the porosity of the materials manufactured.

These research objectives the development and evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of a hybrid composite manufactured epoxy resin reinforced by Eucalipto sp. wood sawdust and treated piassava fibers. The evaluated properties were modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) in static bending, water absorption after 24 hours, porosity and apparent density. Three factors with two levels was evaluated: thickness (3 mm and 4 mm), volumetric resin fraction (45% and 50%) and the use or not of laminate piassava fibers reinforcement, leading to a factorial design of 23 type. Were manufactured four panels, two with 50% and two with 55% of resin, using casting method. For the physical and mechanical properties obtained, the better conditions were the one that uses 50% of epoxy resin, 55% sawdust mass fraction and with the use of laminated piassava fibers reinforcement. The thickness was not statistically significant in obtaining the properties evaluated.

By referring to the domestic and foreign researches on color anti-skid pavement, the composition of epoxy resin coating material for color antiskid pavement is designed. The purpose of the experiment is to analyze the effect of nano-modified epoxy resin coating by adding 2.5% nano-organic montmorillonite modifier to the existing color anti-skid pavement surface material. Test and compare the change of mechanical properties of nano-modified epoxy resin coating binder before and after nano-modified. Then the effect of nano-modification is analyzed.

The interpretation and presentation of research on the physical and mechanical properties of wood in the radial direction is important for the estimation of technological properties in primary wood processing. It is common practice to define the boundary between the juvenile and mature wood zone of tree growth because of the differences in wood properties in these two zones. The juvenile and mature wood zones can be determined statistically based on the significance of the difference in the properties in a particular zone. This paper presents the insufficiency in the statistical determination of the boundary between juvenile and adult wood. Such limitations detract from the potential value and technological exploitation of wood as raw material. Statistical tests yielded zones that were too wide for the transition of juvenile wood to mature wood. Representations of the distribution of properties in the radial direction also complement the knowledge for assessing the technological properties based on the researched use of the presentation of polynomials of the second degree and the display of the Tukey HSD test in the form of comparison tables. The graphical representations by groups of the tested annual rings of fir wood also help to assess the technological properties.
