This paper aims to present the right to submit a petition as an option of direct parent participation in the process of developing educational policy. The issues addressed are in line with reconstruction of the knowledge on the possibilities of involving citizens in developing educational policy as well as show one of the forms of activities addressing the idea of participation (the right to petition). A critical analysis of the discourse provides the scientific perspective used to collect and interpret the empirical material. The analysis has covered petitions submitted by parents to the Ministry of National Education (MEN) in 2020. The study results consistently show that parent participation in the education in Poland is still of occasional and postulatory nature.

Street Social Education and the Question of Cultural Diversity: Who Cares?ABSTRACTThis article provides a critical analysis of the situation of street education in Mozambique and its influence on the debate around cultural diversity. However, it is understood that cultural diversity constitutes a platform for the development of a society, and that its encouragement, through different forms, is a punctual and necessary approach, mainly in the education sector. However, in Mozambique, on the one hand, the National Education System places more emphasis on formal, that is, institutionalized education, and on the other, it recognizes informal education, a sector that does not cover the “street” space, this time completely ignoring the right the education of street children. It is in this context that our article fits, which aims to reflect on the situation of street education and its impact on the promotion of cultural diversity in Mozambique. For this purpose, we use hermeneutic methods, supported by bibliographic review techniques. Therefore, the article concludes that there is little concern to promote cultural diversity through education in children from and on the street, so the “street” space is seen as a space for beggars and that the right to protection and education has been denied through public policies that are unclear, which is why we urge those entitled to their sensitivity. Keywords: Street education. Purpose: Demyelinizing neurological disease is a rare complication after treatment with tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α antagonists. We report on a case of multiple sclerosis after TNFα antagonist treatment and discuss its differential diagnosis. Methods: This is an observational case study. Results: A 48-year-old male was referred to Ophthalmology in January 2015 for an absolute scotoma in the superior quadrant of the visual field in his right eye. Visual acuity was 20/50 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left. Fundus examination was unremarkable bilaterally. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography revealed a normal macular retina structure. Visual field examination revealed a superior hemianopsia in the right eye. Head magnetic resonance imaging showed findings compatible with optic neuritis. The visual evoked potentials confirmed the presence of optic neuritis. The patient had been under therapy with adalimumab since January 2014, for Crohn’s disease. Suspension of adalimumab was recommended, and it was substituted with tapered deltacortene, from 1 mg/kg/day. After 1 month, the scotoma was resolved completely. Conclusions: TNFα antagonists can provide benefit to patients with inflammatory autoimmune diseases. However, they can also be associated with severe adverse effects. Therefore, adequate attention should be paid to neurological abnormalities in patients treated with TNFα antagonists.

Mother-tongue and mother-tongue education are recognized worldwide as one of the most efficient ways to function cognitively and socially. This article addresses the role of proper mother-tongue education with an emphasis on the importance of “language” since language is vital to a child’s right to a basic education in all its dimensions. Without mother-tongue education, every child’s right to learn and to become a skilful adult, able to participate independently in society, is at risk. The cumulative effect of the South African Constitution, the National Education Policy Act, the South African Schools Act, several international instruments and a number of ground-breaking cases, as well as the interaction between them on mother-tongue education will be examined. The implementation of certain education models will also be proposed.

This article explores timing, kairos, in human interaction by analyzing nonverbal communication. The skill of timing, being able to do “the right thing at the right time,” is important for rhetorical agency. What are the silent processes in human interaction, and how do they influence the possibility for a kairotic moment to occur? Empirical material consisting of theater rehearsals has been analyzed. The findings show that the actio qualities: tempo and energy, as well as phronesis, are important factors for the appearance of a kairotic moment.

Bahasa Indonesia:

English:

As a native Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, Pesantren has showed its success in preserving its existentialism. From the colonial period to the reformation period, Pesantren is getting more recognition in Indonesian legal system, particularly in the act of national education. As an Islamic educational institution, Pesantren has several element in its body, such as the kyai (the orthodox teacher), santri (the disciples), pondok, (the dorms), mosque, teaching methods, and kitab kuning (the yellow scriptures). The Pesantren has the salafiyah and khalafiyah as the variants. However, both of them implement the same teaching methods such as sorogan, bandongan, and wetonan. The Pesantren curriculum is a way of achieving educational goals and a direction of education with nation philosophies. The educational policy area in the Pesantren education exists both in national and local level. Issues and policy of education consist of actual problems in educational policy domain. The system and procedure of educational policy making involves several functions, such as allocation, inquiry, and communication. Methodological discourse in educational policy cannot be separated from the discourse of education itself. Pesantren –despite as a native educational system- cannot be separated from the dynamics of national education policy.

Participating in social activism implies responsibility for its exchange and creation. We focus on Intellectual Disability (ID) as an advocacy site for individuals who are dependent on assistance with activities of daily life, and attend to the process of taking care during social justice projects. Our paper responds to current South African social justice controversies perpetrated against people who may be unable to independently mobilize against increasingly othering – even deadly – socio-political conditions. Underpinned by relational Ethics of Care, voluntary-assisted-advocacy can be a psychologically relational, intersubjective, and societal project that strives for ID citizenship-making and social justice. This paper draws on numerous interviews and a number of ethnographic observations in exploration of ID care. Empirical material was subjected to thematic content analysis, and participant quotes bring our argument to life. Relationships among people with Intellectual Disability (PWID) and non-ID assistant-advocates are asymmetrical. We can either uphold dominant non-ID voices, or transform socio-political ruling relations that maintain dependence on conditions of power and inequality. Our contributions to the advocacy we co-create today will shape the activism we will depend on in the future. We consider relational voluntary-assisted-advocacy as a psychological and ethical resource for sustainable, mutually satisfying social change.
