Cross-Sector Alliance Learning and Effectiveness of Voluntary Codes of Corporate Social Responsibility

Firms and industries increasingly subscribe to voluntary codes of conduct. These self-regulatory governance systems can be effective in establishing a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. However, these codes can also be largely symbolic, reactive measures to quell public criticism. Cross-sector alliances (between for-profit and nonprofit actors) present a learning platform for infusing participants with greater incentives to be socially responsible. They can provide multinationals new capabilities that allow them to more closely ally social responsibility with economic performance. This paper examines learning facilitators in cross-sector alliances that enrich corporate understanding of stakeholder concerns. It suggests that these organizational learning experiments can translate into globally responsible practices and processes that improve the content and effectiveness of voluntary corporate codes.

Strategic supply chains are becoming integral part of a firms competitive strength. It not only gives financial advantages, but also well-managed and extremely synchronized supply chain offers certain social obligation. Many businesses are now moving into course of unfolding codes of conduct as one of the ways of overseeing number of suppliers behavior inside the supply chain network. This research paper addresses the issues related with the degree to which customers must be accountable for moral behavior of their partners, like suppliers in buying process. Corporate social responsibility is a very important issue for any firm but it is very depressing that extremely minute material is on hand on this issue. This paper conceptualizes structure for recognizing the responsibilities of the more commanding supply chain member to the other members of the supply chain. It mainly focuses on the degree to which one supply chain member should apply ascendancy as it relates to social responsibility on the members of complete supply chain.

Purpose: the main purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of corporate social responsibility of transnational corporations on the sustainable development of the territories of its presence and on its basis to develop recommendations for the integration of domestic business in the implementation of social projects abroad. In this regard, it is necessary to summarize the real experience and identify the best practices of Russian TNCs, positioning themselves as socially responsible companies.Methods: this article is based on the modern concept of corporate social responsibility – its understanding from the standpoint of the market approach to socially responsible behavior, state regulation of socially responsible practices, corporate conscience as a criterion of moral responsibility of the agent of economic relations, the theory of stakeholders, considering the Corporation as part of the social structure of society and responsible to a wide range of stakeholders. The study was conducted using the methods of comparative analysis, inductive-deductive and General logical methods.Results: the analysis of the impact of corporate social responsibility of transnational corporations on the sustainable development of the territories of its presence. The importance of the return of moral criteria in the economic sphere, which form the basis for assessing the level of socially responsible business behavior, is revealed. The article substantiates the increasing role of TNCs in the sustainable development of the global economy against the backdrop of a shortage of foreign direct investment needed to achieve sustainable development goals. The necessity of dialogue between TNCs and the national governments of the territory of their presence on a wide range of issues of support for the national economy, social investment in local communities and solving environmental problems is shown. The best practices of Russian TNCs in the field of corporate social responsibility are reviewed. The recommendations on the integration of domestic business in the implementation of social projects abroad.Conclusions and Relevance: one of the trends of sustainable development of the global economy is the recognition by economic agents of the importance and prospects of cooperation with ethically-oriented business, the imperative of which is corporate social responsibility. Investment by foreign affiliates of TNCs in the basic infrastructure, production capacity, social and environmental sphere of the territory of their presence should be considered from the perspective of corporate social responsibility. The content and volume of financing of corporate social responsibility programs by foreign affiliates of TNCs is largely determined by the specifics of the business. The implementation of corporate social responsibility, which has become part of the systematic approach of Russian business and is implemented within the framework of a common business strategy in foreign countries, is becoming an undeniable competitive advantage of Russian TNCs over foreign partners.

The contemporary approaches to the development of territories are considered in the article. It is noted that the integrated European approach to the development of territories is increasingly being applied in Ukraine. The essence of integrated development, the stages of development of the Integrated Development Strategy (Concept Strategy), emphasized that understanding of the role and functions of government and local self-government in the development and implementation of integrated development of territories should be perceived not only as the current management task, but also as social responsibility to the community and society. The key aspects of socially responsible behavior of authorities and local self-government in ensuring integrated development of territories are determined. It is noted that the perception of the fulfillment of its functions as social responsibility will allow to effectively plan and implement the development plans of the territories, compete for investments and the best jobs; use the local resource of the territory to create competitive advantages of the region, provide motivation and the ability of "key players" to use competitive advantages and to cooperate effectively; create and maintain institutions that promote the use of intellectual potential, ongoing modernization and innovation in the region; to ensure the willingness and ability of key institutions to adapt to the challenges of the global economy.

aVenezuelan Tax Law as a Promoter of Corporate Social Responsibility   RESUMEN El presente artículo tiene por objetivo disertar sobre los dispositivos contenidos en la legislación tributaria venezolana que actúan como promotores de la responsabilidad social empresarial (RSE), para ello se utilizó el paradigma Cualitativo, bajo un enfoque hermenéutico – interpretativo, cuyo método fue análisis de contenido. En tal sentido se han observado los aspectos, elementos y mecanismos que se encuentran en la LISLR, LIVA y LOCTI que fomentan, incentivan o coadyuvan la RSE; finalmente se plantearan lineamientos para la aceptación de una nueva cultura de RSE con dimensión tributaria. Considerando, que dentro de la legislación tributaria no existen dispositivos específicos que promuevan la RSE, y, ello debe ser tomado en cuenta por el legislador para modificar ciertas normas y crear el incentivo necesario para que las empresas sean de forma congruente socialmente responsables. Palabras clave: legislación tributaria, empresa, promoción, responsabilidad social empresarial. ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to explore regulatory provisions from Venezuelan tax law as promoters of corporate social responsibility (CSR). For the methodological analysis of content, the study uses the qualitative paradigm and a hermeneutical-interpretative approach. The research observes different elements and mechanisms from LISLR, LIVA and LOCTI which encourage and contribute to corporate social responsibility. The study also proposes guidelines for the acceptance of a CSR culture from a tax dimension. The fact that there are no regulatory provisions within the Venezuelan tax law needs to be taken into account by legislators in order to amend certain norms and create the necessary incentives for companies to be socially responsible. Nowadays business is not just for profit making. Rather, business houses across the globe are realizing their stake in the society and hence they have started undertaking various CSR initiatives voluntarily. As per the clause 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 any company having a turnover of Rs 1000 crore or more or a net worth of Rs 500 crore or more or a net profit of Rs 5 crore or more should mandatorily spend at least 2% of their net profits per fiscal year on various CSR activities. Presently in India, CSR initiatives are taken by many companies. Especially, in the FMCG companies where reducing the packaging material is posing a major challenge. Hence, these companies are working in the field of environment, community welfare, health care, education, women's empowerment and girl child care. The present study explores the existing literature available on Corporate Social Responsibility. The contribution of various renowned researchers towards CSR, starting from the first definition given by Bowen (1953), has lead to the development of existing concept of CSR. Further, the study also elaborates upon the various CSR initiatives taken by the two leading Indian FMCG companies: Dabur India Limited and Hindustan Uniliver Limited in different areas.

AbstractIn essence firms or companies are usually thought to exist to make products for or provide services of some sort to third parties, other companies or individuals. The philosophical question which naturally arises then is ‘to the benefit of whom should a firm’s activities be aimed?’ Possible answers include the owners of the firm, the firm’s employees or wider society, the firm’s local community or their host nation. It is because of firms’ location within a wider society that the issue of corporate social responsibility arises. The issue is do they contribute in a positive way to the fabric of society. In this paper we conduct an exploratory investigation whose research questions, broadly, are whether there is public evidence of corporate social responsibility activity by firms listed in the UK and to what extent, if any, such activities may amount to genuinely socially responsible management by the firms. We examined the most up to date annual reports of a split sample of 36 firms listed in the FTSE 350. The short answers to the two research questions above are: to some degree and no by some margin, based on data from the sample firms.

Traditional economic system has brought important negative implications regarding environmental development, as well as an unequal distribution of wealth, which has led to ecological disasters and population imbalances. Considering the existence of unequal opportunities and access to resources in a global economy, it would be relevant to study the interrelations between the concepts of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Global and multifactorial issues require the review of fieldworks and their connections. From this perspective, the present research aims to analyze the relationships between the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability in order to understand the advances of current scientific production and future lines of research. In this way, there is a considerable increase of interest in this line of research, highlighting García-Sánchez as the most productive author, Business, Management and Accounting as the most studied topic, and Sustainability Switzerland as the most productive journal. The country with the most publications and citations is the United States, and the most productive institution is Universidad de Salamanca. Future lines of research should focus on the social dimension and its possibilities in the field of Circular Economy. Finally, a line of research is proposed that also includes the proposals from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

This paper evaluates the influence of multiple actors in both formal and informal governance systems on corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices. Drawing on institutional theory, a quantitative survey was developed and conducted of a sample of 140 firms in the electronics, food, textiles, toys and personal care sectors in Brazil. We examine how institutional pressures and firm-level agency influence the emergence of different patterns of CSR. We distinguish two clusters of companies: active companies identify business outcomes and actors that effectively exert an influence on their CSR practices, while passive companies consider institutional pressures to be of minor importance. Our contribution relates first, to institutional theory concerning the role of different actors in influencing the implementation of social and environmental practices; second, to the importance of collective coordination or its absence in shaping the specific characteristics of CSR; and third, to the agency of firms in responding to institutional pressures as being dependent on their perceptions of business outcomes. The theoretical insights drawn from this study should be applicable to similar countries, that is, to emerging but politically and economically unstable markets with marked social and economic inequalities.
