No presente trabalho buscou-se compreender como o diagnóstico da realidade dos estudantes do ensino fundamental é conduzida no âmbito da rede municipal de educação de Viamão/RS. A partir desta compreensão buscou-se elaborar uma metodologia para a utilização do perfil dos estudantes como parâmetro de gestão. Para tanto, estruturou-se a pesquisa em três dimensões: como o diagnóstico da realidade dos estudantes é feito na atualidade, quais as contribuições oferecidas pelo banco de dados Pense do IBGE. O trabalho gerou um produto para a rede municipal de ensino, o qual possibilita a ampliação do cadastro dos alunos, com a proposta de inclusão de parâmetros que contemplam variáveis as quais permitem identificar melhor a diversidade presente nas escolas.Palavras-chave: perfil dos estudantes, diagnóstico, gestão educacional, ensino fundamental.  USING THE PROFILE OF STUDENTS AS A PARAMETER OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENTAbstractThis study is an attempt to understand the reality of the education network in the city of Viamão, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in performing the diagnosis of students’ profiles. O texto compreende uma discussão sobre o processo de modernização na cidade de Porto Alegre em vários momentos de sua história, articulando as transformações e modificações havidas no espaço urbano com uma paralela segregação social operada e/ou desejada na cidade. São recolhidos vários exemplos para demonstrar a vontade de se construir uma “cidade una”, na qual não se admite o convívio com os indesejados sociais. A combinação modernização/exclusão social, tantas vezes já abordada em diversos estudos da historiografia brasileira, encontra neste artigo mais um exercício de aproximação, a partir do qual pode-se vislumbrar momentos distintos – sem traçar uma linha de continuidade – desta operação específica da modernidade. Abstract The text discusses the process of modernization in the city of Porto Alegre during various moments of its history, debating both transformations and modifications in the city’s urban space along with a social segregation that was either going on or being wished for at that time. Many exemples are given so as to demonstrate the desire to build a “united city” in which those who were socially unwished were not allowed. The combination of modernization with social exclusion, so often discussed in many other studies of Brazilian history, is shown in this article as another approach to the issue of modernization with its distinct moments. In order to evaluate the distribution of dermatophytes in Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, they were isolated from the skin, hairs and nails samples and retrospectively analyzed from June 1981 to June 1995, in two different institutions in the city of Porto Alegre: (i) the Serviço de Micologia do Instituto de Pesquisas Biológicas Jandyr Maya Faillace, da Secretaria de Saúde e Meio Ambiente do Rio Grande do Sul which attends the low income population (low and middle classes) and, (ii) Laboratório Weinmann, a clinical pathology laboratory which attends predominantly the higher income population (middle and upper classes), both which attend in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. The dermatophyte predominance of Trichophyton rubrum was confirmed (55.33%) followed by T. mentagrophytes (21.46%). The data obtained were compared with the existing prevalence data which were collected in the interior of the state over a period of 32 years (1960-1992). T. verrucosum, T. simii, Microsporum persicolor, T. schöenleinii, M. nanum and M. cookei were isolated in the interior and have not been found in the capital so far. On the other side, T. violaceum was, isolated in the capital and has not been found in the interior so far.

ABSTRACT: Abomasal bloat associated with Sarcina genus bacteria is a rare condition reported in young ruminants. An outbreak characterized by the sudden death of eight lambs from a total of 80 lambs (30 days-old) occurred on a property located in the city of Palmares do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Deaths began to occur after the introduction of supplementation into the diet of lambs. At necropsy, the abomasum was distended by gas and had diffusely thickened walls and emphysema. On microscopic examination, the abomasum showed marked diffuse emphysema and multifocal areas of mild superficial necrosis with many coccoid structures measuring approximately 2µm in diameter, arranged in tetrads, compatible with Sarcina genus bacteria. After removing supplementation from the diet, no more deaths occurred. The diagnosis of this case was established by gross and microscopic lesions in addition to the clinical and epidemiological findings. Therefore, it was concluded that it was an outbreak of emphysematous abomasitis by Sarcina genus bacteria in lambs.

Leishmaniosis are zoonoses that present several clinical manifestations in humans and have dogs as their main reservoir in the urban environment. Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is the most severe form of the parasitosis and has been increasing in Brazil, despite the actions of public health agencies. Until 2002, the State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) was considered free of human and canine leishmaniasis. The first human case of cutaneous leishmaniasis in RS was recorded in 2003. In 2009, the first autochthonous cases of human VL and canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) were confirmed in São Borja, RS, and the occurrence of the insect vector was recorded for the first time in the state. In 2010, the first confirmed case of CVL was reported and seropositive dogs were identified in the city of Porto Alegre, RS. Given the importance of this zoonosis and the difficulties of a reliable diagnosis in dogs, this study aimed to identify epidemiological aspects of CVL in dogs in an area of Porto Alegre where cases of the disease have been reported. A total of 300 blood samples were collected from dogs in this area, which were then tested by the methods of RT-DPP® and ELISA for diagnosis of Leishmania infantum. An epidemiological questionnaire was completed by dog owners, containing aspects related to care of the animals, characteristics of their environment, and their living conditions. We observed that 83% (250/300) of the studied dogs were of mixed breed, 58% (175/300) were female, 78% (238/300) slept outdoors, and 61% (183/300) shared their living quarters with other species. Clinically, we observed that 90% (270/300) of the animals were infested by ectoparasites, 70% (210/300) had dermatopathies, 24% (72/300) presented weight loss and anorexia, and 22% (65/300) had ocular disorders. The results of the two serological tests were 100% concordant for the three seropositive samples (1%), and the remaining 297 (99%) were negative for both tests. We conclude that despite the low prevalence of L. infantum seropositive dogs, conditions in the region are favorable for CVL transmission, creating a risk of VL for the human population in the city of Porto Alegre.

This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a quantitative approach and the aim to identify the perception of fathers regarding their children's needs; strategies used by fathers to get closer to their children as well as to analyze the influence of household chores and children's education in their fathers' lives. Study subjects were 92 men with six-year-old children, residing in the city of Rio Grande, state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The results revealed fathers who are more engaged in activities with their children, valuing confidence, safety, as well as proximity to family as children's main needs, having prioritized the progress children make as well as attention to listening and conversation. Children's education does not aggregate more problems than they imagined, managing to plan life the way they seek to. These findings show that, in the sample studied, fathers have been able to develop more affectionate actions aimed at being more involved with their children.

Aiming to contribute to the knowledge concerning diversity of the butterflies in the Atlantic Rainforest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, a systematic survey was carried out in the city of Frederico Westphalen from November 2006 to June 2007, in two sampling localities. The total sampling efforts was 80 h, in which 1.785 samples were recorded, distributed in 161 species. From the latter, 51.57 % (83) belongs to the Nymphalidae family, Hesperiidae 20.49 % (33), Pieridae 8.69 % (14), Riodinidae 6.83 % (11), Papilionidae 6.21 % (10), Lycaenidae 6.21 % (10). Regarding the sampled species, 79.50 % (128) were recorded at both studied sites.

O presente artigo discute o tema da inserção internacional dos governos não centrais brasileiros e argentinos dentro contexto de integração regional que resulta na criação do Mercosul. Inicialmente, busca-se inserir o fenômeno dentro do debate teórico das Relações Internacionais, identificando suas principais correntes explicativas. Posteriormente, busca-se analisar as experiências pioneiras do estado do Rio Grande do Sul e da província de Misiones no contexto inicial da integração regional, ainda antes da criação do Mercosul.  Por fim, com o surgimento do bloco em 1991, busca-se analisar seus impactos no âmbito estadual (Brasil) e provincial (Argentina) para compreender as diferentes estratégias adotadas pelos diferentes governos não centrais com base em estudos de caso que abrangem diferentes regiões brasileiras e argentinas, identificando padrões similares nos dois países. A metodologia utilizada ao longo da pesquisa foi o da política comparada aplicada a um pequeno número de casos (small n).  Palavras-chave: Paradiplomacia, Diplomacia Federativa, Governos Não Centrais, Mercosul.     Abstract: This article discusses the theme of the international insertion of Brazilian and Argentinian non-central governments within the context of regional integration that results into the creation of Mercosul. Initially, it seeks to insert the phenomenon within the theoretical debate of International Relations, identifying its main explanatory approaches. Then, it seeks to analyze the pioneering experiences of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and the province of Misiones in the initial context of regional integration, even before the creation of Mercosul. Finally, with the appearance of the block in 1991, it seeks to analyze its impacts at the state (Brazil) and provincial (Argentina) level in order to comprehend the different strategies taken by the different non-central governments based in case studies that includes different regions of Brazil and Argentina, identifying similar patterns in both countries. The methodology used during the research was the comparative politics applied to a small number of cases (small n). No ensino de Ciências, a Botânica é uma das áreas com maior dificuldade de assimilação de conteúdos. Destaca-se, dentre suas causas, o desinteresse dos alunos pelo tema, a falta de aulas práticas e de materiais didáticos facilitadores. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a realização de palestras e experimentos na aprendizagem de conceitos de Botânica por discentes do Ensino Fundamental. O presente estudo foi realizado no Município de São Gabriel, Rio Grande do Sul em três Escolas Municipais. As atividades realizadas foram construção de modelos didáticos, palestras e experimentos demonstrativos sobre Botânica em laboratório e a campo, totalizando a participação de 120 alunos em cada atividade realizada. Pode-se observar, neste estudo, que as atividades realizadas foram positivas para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, com acréscimo no conhecimento; uma vez que, o conhecimento foi significativo tanto para o discente do Ensino Fundamental como para os acadêmicos da Universidade Federal do Pampa, especialmente, para sua formação profissional, especialmente os do Curso de Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas.Palavras-chave: Recursos didáticos. Ensino-aprendizagem. Practical classes as a strategy for botanical teaching in middle schoolAbstractIn the teaching of science, Botany is one of the areas with the greatest difficulty in assimilating content. Among the causes, we highlight the students' lack of interest in the theme, the lack of practical classes and suitable materials. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of lectures and experiments on the learning of Botany concepts by elementary school students. The present study took place, in the city of São Gabriel in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in three public schools. The classes were taught and performed at the laboratory and also in its own field , with the participation of 120 students in each activity. It could be observed in this study that the activities performed were positive for the teaching-learning process, with increased knowledge; since, the knowledge was significant for the students of the Elementary School as for the students of the Universidade Federal of Pampa, especially for their professional formation, especially those of the Degree in Biological Sciences.Keywords: Didactic materials. Buscou-se construir e testar metodologias de análise de entrevistas, discutindo as possibilidades de interpretação das narrativas de uma experiência específica: o deslocamento e a inserção na nova comunidade de indivíduos de diversas localidades urbanas para morar e trabalhar em Canoas, cidade industrial situada na região metropolitana do Rio Grande do Sul. As conclusões indicaram que os migrantes enfocados não se integraram efetivamente na vida da nova cidade, reconstruindo o novo espaço dentro de uma perspectiva enlaçada ao mundo anterior, onde a demarcação social não se fez entre casa e rua, mas entre centro e periferia. Abstract I will discuss the possibilities to interpret one specific experience: the displacement and insertion in a new community of individuals coming from several different urban localities to dwell and work in Canoas, an industrial city located in the metropolitan part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The findings indicate that the migrants focused here have not effectively integrated the life in the new city. In fact, they remade the new environment in the image old world that they had left, where a social line is drawn, not between home and street, but between centre and margin.
