The achievement of a sports result requires infrastructure and capital to build, as well as maintenance. The sporting event and performance grow into the image (enriched sports product) when the capacity of the venues provide economically sustainable concept. The survey shows that: 1 / visitors’ perception and the tradition affect attendance; 2 / marketing–management is projecting such sports-service processes that attract audiences, sponsors and the media, and through its image become attractive to the venue staff, and the society as a whole. The aim is to highlight the importance of valorisation of infrastructure in which valuable sporting results are achieved, and justify their mission too. Key projecting points are: 1 / commercialization of sports facilities due to new socio-economic impacts; 2 / keeping abreast of global trends in the venues’ construction and operation by introducing best practices; 3 / the physical elements as determinants of the image (design, etc.); 4 / the image significance for financing and business; 5 / projection strategies for facilities’ design. Projection and maintenance of the attractive image affects the audience's response, increasing the revenue needed for its functioning and modernization through the naming rights, ultimately ensuring continuity of attendance. The image of a social investment determines its further exploitation, so it is projected with special attention.

Subject. The article continues the discussion about the method of training aircraft engineers to work in the military and civil segments of aviation and rocket-and-space industry. Objectives. The purpose is to improve the training of Russian engineers to work in the competitive market environment, on the basis of the analysis of experience in training the aviation engineers in leading foreign technical universities. Methods. The study rests on the comparative analysis of implementation of major projects in the military and civil segments of aviation in the U.S. and Russia, as well as programs for training aircraft engineers in both countries. Results. The analysis shows that the duration of modern large military aviation projects in both countries is the same (the comparison of cost is impossible, due to information protection in Russia), while in the civil segment of the aviation industry, Russia's lagging behind is significant both in terms of the duration of projects and performance results. One of the reasons is in the poor training of aircraft engineers to work in the competitive environment. Conclusions. It is crucial to reform Russian aviation universities in terms of conformity to global trends in multidisciplinarity and differentiation of financing and research base.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] International sporting events like the Olympics and FIFA World Cup generate a great deal of attention for the athletes, the games, and for the nations that host these events. Hosting can be very prestigious for a nation, yet not all hosts are apt to be strict observers of international norms regarding human rights and human security. In these instances, the tourists who travel to see the event, and the media that broadcasts it, are better able to observe the poor behavior of a state who would rather use this opportunity to increase its international standing. Are host nations apt to improve their behavior for the sake of an international sporting event? Are they more responsive to the international criticism of their behavior when hosting an event? This research finds that states are in fact more responsive to international rights criticism, and, for the duration of the event are better observers of human rights. Yet, this positive effect is only apparent for the duration of the event.

In 2008, Melbourne became the first Australian city to host the Homeless World Cup (HWC), an annual international sporting event that aims to raise the profile of homelessness and social marginalisation. This article first examines relevant print media articles relating to the HWC by identifying key themes through thematic and content analysis. It then examines the polarised reporting of the HWC by two print media outlets, The Age and the Herald Sun, and argues that each outlet's coverage served to reinforce its own established position on the key political and social issues, in this instance homelessness, asylum seeking and immigration. The divergence in the discourses constructed in each paper provides a demonstrative example of the capacity of the media to use events of all sorts to consolidate their political and commercial positions.

Abstract ‘Saʿidi dialect’ is a general phrase used by Egyptians to refer to a group of dialects spoken in an area that stretches from the south of Cairo to the border of the Sudan. Of all the dialects found throughout Egypt and the Arab world, Saʿidi Arabic is one of the most ridiculed, stigmatised and stereotyped in the media. Salient phonological and semantic features of Saʿidi are associated with undesirable attributes such as ignorance, stupidity and a lack of sophistication. These negative indexes are often emphasised by the media. However, some Saʿidi intellectuals and public figures employ these very features to perform their identity, thus creating a positive stance and highlighting the favourable traits of Saʿidis. This article examines data from the media, including soap operas, poetry – both written and performed – postcards and songs. It utilises the concepts of indexicality and stance-taking to explore the metalinguistic discourse of Saʿidis and non-Saʿidis in the media. In addition, the article examines indexes of Saʿidi features that are considered second order indexes, but that are used by performers who employ a Saʿidi dialect to create a stance that is remarkably distinct from the rest of Egypt.

The article reviews the trends in the media industry landscape formation based on content as a source of economic processes taking place in the industry. A wide range of expert opinions, reflecting the current changes was collected and analyzed. The life cycle of content is examined and the key trends in its production, packaging, distribution and consumption are highlighted. The attention is focused on the economic and technological factors that determine each of the trends, for instance, a change in the model of media consumption, the development and distribution of OTT platforms as a new way of delivering content, as well as a rapid transition to a new technological level. The latest statistical data from Russian and foreign sources support the reviewed trends. There is a separate description of the coronavirus pandemic impact consequences on the global media and the Russian industry in particular, and the key aspects of the development of the industry are identified in the current period on its basis.

The author considers new phenomena in the information sphere of civil society, their influence on the nature and forms of its development, emphasizing that the development of the Russian civil society follows the general formation of the global civil society. Humankind has come to the objectively inevitable and qualitatively new stage in the co-evolution of biosphere, society and technosphere - the emergence of noosphere. The social-political essence of the new stage of social evolution is the search for a sustainable life regime based on the principles of civil justice in the interests of everyone on the planet. Social statistics and sociology highlight the peculiarity in the development of digital technologies - the growth of material and informational dysfunctions of the global and regional scale. The information sphere that has developed in the neoliberal paradigm of economic, political, and social practices does not meet the new global challenges and the needs of civil society and social state for it continues to function in the interests of small elite groups. Misinformation becomes widespread, which leads to the loss by information of its key function of the reliable reflection of reality and to the partial transformation of the media into institutions of social and political manipulation. Based on the data of sociological studies, the author proves that the structure and forms of the Russian media dysfunctions reflect global trends, and concludes that the need for publicity is a result of the “truth crisis”; thus, the media’s task - to reliably reflect social reality - becomes an imperative and a pass to the future. The sustainable development of the global and Russian civil society depends on the successful social-political reconstruction of the information sphere based on the principles of co-evolution of man, society and nature.

The article considers the reasons for foreign tours of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra’s headed by V.B. Dudarova in the 1970s, the specifics of those tours, as well as their results both from the point of view of popularizing symphonic music and from the point of view of popularizing Soviet ideology abroad. Among the most important reasons for the organization of the first foreign tours by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra of V.B. Dudarova in the 1970s, one can mention the active participation of the orchestra in numerous Soviet festivals, competitions for young performers, the preparation and performance of new works by Soviet composers, the expansion of the repertoire of performed musical works, the work with foreign conductors, Also the participation of V.B. Dudarova as a guest conductor in foreign tours with other orchestras, the musical community positive reviews and reports on the work of the orchestra as well as increasing the status and prestige of the orchestra in the general range of symphony orchestras of the USSR. The organization and conduct of foreign tours in the Polish People’s Republic and the GDR included the briefing, the development of a concert program, which provided for concerts in several major cities with a developed musical culture, as well as in the capitals of the countries selected for the foreign tour. In addition to the concerts themselves, the organization of the tour included a meeting of the Orchestra’s direction with the cultural intelligentsia of the People’s Republic of Poland and the GDR after each of the concerts, advertising concerts and the orchestra’s work in the media of the People’s Republic of Poland and the GDR, selling souvenirs and recordings of the orchestra. Thus, the concerts of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra conducted by V.B. Dudarova were only a part, or rather one of the instruments, of the national program of Soviet propaganda and the maintenance of a favorable image of the USSR abroad.

Abstract The basic indicators of manufacturing industry’s level of development are still at an unenviable level, although it provides the majority of tradable goods of Serbian economy and has the most significant share in gross domestic product. This state of the manufacturing industry in Serbia is the result of an unstable macroeconomic environment and institutional insecurity, as well as an inadequate management approach in companies of this sector. Taking into account the situation, there is an obvious need to change management approach in these companies, which includes improving their budgeting processes and systems. Budgeting, as a management instrument, has become important in companies in Serbia only in the last decades, that is, after the change of the economic system. The results of the conducted empirical study, aiming to perceive the current state and relevant management attitudes regarding the implementation of certain budgeting concepts in manufacturing companies in Serbia, are presented in this paper. The study aims to determine the current presence of certain budgeting concepts, as well as which concepts the management of the sample companies intends to implement in the future, since it considers them an appropriate and a good solution for its company, taking into account the specifics of its environment and business. The presented results will show whether manufacturing companies in Serbia follow global trends in budgeting practices that relate to the implementation of modern budgeting concepts with flexibility, customer focus and performance based as their key features.

This chapter assesses the role and performance of the Kenyan media in women's participation in 2013 Kenya general election with particular emphasis on radio, television and newspapers. Kenya has a diverse, vibrant and largely free media whose coverage of the election was useful in informing, educating and mobilizing women to vote. However, limited and biased media coverage of women candidates, inadequate civic and voter education may have inhibited women's electoral participation as few women contested and won electoral seats in the 2013 Kenyan polls. Therefore, the media should enhance the visibility of women, political rights and issues of women as the country endeavours to enhance gender equality in political representation. To achieve this, the media should partner with women, the electoral body, government, political parties and other stakeholders in Kenya in order to improve women's media coverage and political participation.
