The article evaluates science sectors and effectiveness of scientific research in the countries forming the BRICS group, as well as the current state of scientific and technological cooperation among the group members. The science sectors of the countries under consideration differ markedly, while facing similar problems relating to government regulations and external environments. The differences exist in total expenditures on research and development (as a share of GNP), in the scope of governmental funding (large in Russia and India, but small in China), and in the distribution of allocations among various areas and types of R&D activities. China appears to have the most well-adjusted science sector among the BRICS members. It includes not only strong universities but also high-tech companies that invest actively into research and development. The overall impact (inferred from citation indexes) of fundamental and exploratory research performed in BRICS countries remains low. BRICS's scientists prefer to collaborate with their colleagues from the world-leading countries rather than with their fellows from BRICS. Yet, in contrast to the world trend, in all BRICS countries, except Russia, a share of internationally co-authored publications is now decreasing. BRICS members have more similar interests and priorities in technological development, including infrastructural and large technological projects, than in science. Currently, bilateral cooperation in technology prevails, while the projects involving all members of the group still remain at the stage of preliminary evaluation and discussion. Russia cooperates most closely with China and India, including joint projects in such high-priority directions as new materials, photonics, biomedical, space and information technologies. For Russia, cooperation in technological development appears to be of most interest because it can lead not only to introduction of new technologies but also help to create large Russian innovative companies. Development of successful multilateral cooperation in science and technology among the BRICS members is the key for this group, originally formed for geopolitical reasons, to evolve into an effective economic union.

This study investigates the issue of sustainability in the tourism sector, defining both as the Tourism National Plans studied from 2003 to 2016. Thus it was first used for exploratory research by proposing to observe books, articles and relevant materials addressing issues related to sustainability and jointly tourism, sometimes arranged by organizations such as the World Health Organization-WHO, United Environment Programme-UNEP and WWF Mediterranean. In the sequence, it was held a documentary research to individually analyze the perspective of sustainability in the Tourism National Plan of 2003-2007, 2007-2010 and 2013-2016. On the other hand, the results show that even before the development of these policies, it is observed the absence of the consolidation of these proposed actions in the national tourism sector in this way it is understood that these proposals serve to supply political desires and supporters. From the perspective of sustainability by these public policies, the elaborate planning verified did not represent Brazil’s actions of environmental preservation and improvement of social indicators that are directly related to tourism.

This paper aims to consider the issue of the special management and production model developed at Toyota, and its contribution to the development of other economies in the world, with special reference to production in the Philippines. Japan was the first country in Asia to embark on a path of modernization and as such, became a model for the surrounding countries. The Philippines is one of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region that followed the path of change and adopted the Kaizen philosophy. Japan has influenced more widely, globally, all companies in the world that strive to conduct this way of doing business in their own environment. Toyota's business philosophy and the application of kaizen as a new model of corporate governance has become synonymous with quality corporate governance around the world and has influenced the establishment of new laws in the field of economy, culture and society, in a global context.

In Malaysia, as in many parts of the world, vocational education and training (VET) is frequently perceived as the solution to improving the opportunities of youths who lack the resources, skills or motivation to continue with higher education. The focus of the study falls on the effectiveness of the apprenticeship scheme during the 10th Malaysia Plan. This study may provide an opportunity to find out how the related parties react towards the apprenticeship scheme. This is important, as feedbacks are central to the success or failure of any scheme. It is expected that the relevant government bodies, private sectors, trainers and trainees will have a valuable insight on the progress this far and what need to be done in the future based on the outcome of the research. This study follows snowballing sampling method and gathers the information from apprentices from variety of industrial sectors. The findings indicate effectiveness at some types of training but lacks comprehensiveness and efficient use of resources and future direction, especially during the 10th Malaysia plan period from 2011 to 2016. This exploratory research is a first chapter of the deeper study in this niche.

Financial inclusion is a mian concern of the contemperory global financial landscape. It is a universal concern that needs adequate and effective solutions. Islamic financial arean is no exception to this. With the fintech solutions available in the market today, innovative ways to provide financial inclusion is needed. However, the most critical challenge in the arena is caused due to limited availability of shariah compliant investment avenues in some of the jurisdictions of the world where Islamic banking and finance has not yet fully taken-off. The main objective of this research is to introduce a universally accepted mechanism using salam, one of the most least used Islamic finance contract in commercial Islamic banking for mobilising fixed deposits which will be ideal to be used in jurisdictions with limited shariah compliant avenues. This is a legal exploratory research that aims to provide an adequate and effective product for the jurisdictions that aspires to have sophisticated fixed return guranteed investment products structured in a shariah compliant manner. Simultaneously, the proposed product in this research will serve the less previlaged community of the society whose commodities can be used as underlying asset in structuring the product. However, this social impact of the product will differ depending on the jurisdiction in which it is applied and the decision of the financial institution in which the product is offered as it is there discretionary power to choose the underlying commodity used in the transaction. Fintech can also be fused with the suggested product and as such, the product can be easily used by the population in physically remote locations in a convenient manner. It is anticipated that this research will assist the jurisdictions in the world with limited shariah compliant investment products to introduce a new product that will be adequate to fulfill the needs of the customers.
