The authors of the research focus on Antonio Pasculli, a famous Italian virtuoso oboe player and composer of the late 19th - the early 20th century, whose name had long and undeservingly been in the wilderness. In the last two-three decades, his legacy has been getting a new lease on life. Pasculli’s compositions are on the concert list of oboe players all over the world. Despite the performance popularity, the personality and creative work of the outstanding Italian musician are still on the periphery of the research focus of Russian musicologists. All valuable information is contained in rare foreign researches. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to reconstruct the artistic portrait of Antonio Pasculli in the context of time. This research is the first in Russian musicology to introduce into Russian scientific discourse the data from foreign sources revealing the peculiarities of Pasculli’s creative life. Based on the analysis of the collected data, the authors conclude about the necessity to revise the role of Pasculli’s work and legacy in the context of European music culture of the 19th century. It is believed that familiarization with the information about the Italian musician, unknown to the Russian audience, will help to not only dive deeper into the specificity of Pasculli’s compositions, but also to reinterpret his place and role in the evolution of playing woodwind instruments.

The Nationalist unification of China was nominally completed on December 29, 1928. On that day Manchuria, under the leadership of Chang Hsüeh-liang, accepted and hoisted the Revolutionary flag. Historians have tended to emphasize the role of nationalism in the union of the Three Eastern Provinces with the Kuomintang domain after the death of Chang Tso-lin on June 4, 1928. According to the general view, Chang Hsüeh-liang, having grown up in the period of the May Fourth Movement, shared many of the national aspirations of the younger generation, and desired to stop civil warfare in China and assist the Kuomintang in the policy of unification. Moreover, he is represented as being violently hostile to Japan, suspicious of the Japanese in the killing of his father, and determined to put forth every effort to bring Manchuria and Nationalist China together, so that the unified nation could resist the ambitions of its imperialistic neighbor. Japan, under the “positive policy” of the Tanaka ministry, is pictured as attempting to keep the Three Eastern Provinces separate from the Nationalist South; to delay, if not halt, an eventual union.

This paper discusses the importance of historical narrative in an effort to grow the character of the defense of the country. This is motivated by the problem of mindset about defending the country, that defending the country is the duty of the Indonesian National Army and Police, and defending the country is only appropriate for men. In this issue, historical studies play an important role in deconstructing people's mindsets. Therefore, this paper offers a solution to build the character of state defense, namely through efforts to present women in post-independence historiography. This paper aims to encourage the dismantling of the exclusion of women's roles in post-independence historiography, because in reality, Indonesian women are involved in the defense of the state after 1945. The results of the research in this paper show that after Indonesia's independence, many women had a role important in politics, the arts, to the health sector. By introducing a narrative about how important the role of women in the history of post-independence, the younger generation will have an awareness that defending the country can also be done by women. Thus, presenting women in post-independence historiography will greatly help the Indonesian people to grow the character of state defense.
Keywords: Exclusion, Historical Awareness, Historiography, State Defense, Women.

The art of Turkmen bagshy-dessanchy (epictellers) is ancient and distinguished by its genre richness and stylistic diversity. The epic heritage of Turkmens has been sufficiently studied by philologists and ethnographers, but there are no special studies in Turkmenistan revealing the nature of the oral tradition preservation and the methods of transmitting epic genres from generation to generation. The purpose of the article was to reveal the genre and performing features of the schools of epic epic-telling in Turkmenistan, describe the traditions of mentoring that have survived in the art of bagshy-dessanchy, and identify methods that allow Turkmen storytellers to keep in memory a huge number of songs and texts. To solve these goals, the following tasks were carried out: the epic legends of various local schools were analyzed; a comparative analysis of the performance of the epic by the same narrator in different periods of time was carried out; revealed differences in the performance of the same legend by the mentor and his students; the factors and means influencing the change of destans have been determined. The works of A. Lord, V. Barthold, V. Zhirmunsky, V. Propp, E. Bertels, B. Putilov, K. Reichl were used in the article as a methodological base. The sources for the analysis were samples of the epic heritage from the Fund of audio materials of the Turkmen National Conservatory, as well as field audio-, videomaterials from the authors’ personal archives. In the article, for the first time, not only epic cycles and destans, but also the genre of legend with music, as well as poetic transcriptions of the classical poet’s works were considered as the main genres of bagshy-destanchy. The studies helped to identify the formative role of epic songs and their important functions, thanks to which the development of the musical dramaturgy in epic genres was carried out. For the first time, we identified the beacon songs, that make up the frame of Turkmen epic works, thanks to which the epic text remembering in the memory of bagshy-dessanchy. The looseness of song motifs with texts, using the theme-melodies (musical tunes, which characteristic of specific local schools) in epic songs showed the particularities of Turkmen destan performance. Taking into account the tendency towards a gradual weakening of the interest of the younger generation in the ancient tradition, the identification of the methods used in the process of preserving the oral epic heritage is highly relevant.

In the modern, changing, uncertain world, life is becoming more and more complex and difficult. Only those who are well prepared for it will be able to function in this world. Thus, the article raises the question of whether teaching children democracy, liberation behaviour, participation, but also responsibility, is a fantasy, a fiction, or a whim, which teachers and researchers who seek, and parents who reject authoritarianism are often accused of, or whether it is a necessity of the modern times and an expression of an awareness that it is essential wisely to prepare the younger generation for life in contemporary society. In this paper the author also outlines the role of educational institutions that can and should be aware of this task and search for opportunities for the creation of conditions for the development of children’s democratic competences.
