This paper deals with problems of rural tourism development. The works is focused on researching the situation in the area of rural tourism in the Czech Republic, on understanding the attitudes of entrepreneurial sphere and rural population to this entrepreneurship and mainly on the determination of limiting factors that prevent this form of tourism from a more distinctive development. Rural tourism in the Czech Republic is still in the initiating stage of its development and it is not as developed as in some countries in West Europe. This goal has been reached with the help of primary questionnaire inquiry among business and agricultural subjects in rural areas in the individual regions and the detail results of this questionnaire inquiry are enclosed to the following paper. These identified factors were mainly insufficient financial means and at the same time insufficient state assistance connected with this. Insufficient awareness of this support as well as its inaccessibility for small business appears to be a difficulty, too. From the other obstacles, we can mention the current legislation system, bureaucracy, the state of communication and tourist infrastructure, fears of neighbours’ intolerance and losing privacy and also unfamiliarity and little experience.

Clustered Approach to ICT Services Utilization AnalysisThe paper describes clustered approach to ICT services utilization analysis based on the WSA method. It allows extracting coherent groups of countries with nearly the same level of ICT services utilization based on the number of indicators analyzed. Approach is explained on case of the Czech Republic and its position in the European peloton with using available Eurostat data.

The paper discusses the importance of rural tourism and sustainable rural areas development. It highlights the role of tourism in dealing with problems of rural areas and agriculture sector in the Czech Republic. After theoretical description of a system approach to rural tourism development, the author continues by a practical part where she compares tourism and agrotourism management in the Czech Republic and Austria. Austria has been chosen as a representative of a state with developed tourism system and tourism management. Selected aspects of management systems are then compared and proposed for improvement in tourism/agrotourism. Critical key factor for successful development of activities in rural areas (therefore including agrotourism services) are then presented.

Rural tourism has gone through an important development, but in the Czech Republic has only been possible to run a private business only in last 18 years. In Czech Republic that form of tourism is not very widespread, although there is great potential in it and the neighboring countries such as Austria or Germany are on a much higher level. For more intensive development and better competitiveness on the marker a proper education is necessary especially on the secondary level. An inquiry investigation has been provided. The responders were owners and operators of small businesses in rural tourism. The first part of the questionnaire was focused on the matters of ownership, running the business, promotion, internet services, etc. The subsequent part of the questionnaire gathered the information about the capacity of the places, the types and prices of accommodation, and the facilities. It also surveys the surroundings of the place – both natural and cultural sights.The survey has brought interesting facts about the level of the rural tourism of selected regions.The inquiry investigation was made by trained persons who gathered much information above the framework of the questionnaire. Many demands and complains were concerned with lack of specialized education, needs of new study programs and branches. There are many specifics of this branches, the most important is that there are more than 90% of micro firms. If we want to keep the special features of the rural tourism we have to prepare future entrepreneurs and employees in completely different way than those for big hotels, spas or congress centers. The contribution deals with the present status of rural tourism in Czech Republic and the educational need of the people involved.

The paper focuses on the systems of quality used in tourism services. It introduces approaches based on observing facility standards that are used in the Czech Republic in the area of accommodation and boarding services (Hotelstars, HACAP), then ISO standards of 9000 group and the systems of complex quality management. Within the frame of complex quality management it deals with the model of exceptionality EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) and the European integrated system of quality IQM (Integrated Quality Management) in more detail. The necessity to support the quality of tourism services is pointed out in the paper, as well as to create a national system of quality or possibly using already existing European systems of international character.

The Czech Republic does not have any central registry of rural tourism facilities; there is no information about the availability and quality of services or about their economic results. The goal of this contribution is to describe the current state of rural tourism in the Czech Republic, and to find the bottlenecks, problems and potential risks. The lack of information about this sector was the motivation for a survey which produced a great deal of information about the situation in the rural tourism business in the Czech Republic. We apply one-dimensional and multiple-dimensional statistical analyses to data from the completed questionnaires. The multiple-dimensional analysis is based on dependency tests and calculations of the intensity of the dependency between variables in contingency tables.The description and findings arise from the quantification and analysis of the information from the questionnaire survey. We find that most firms in the sector are small (so called micro firms) and usually have no links to the agricultural production. The income from tourism frequently represents only a supplementary part of the businesses’ whole revenues and the profitability is to a certain extent dependent on the services offered and how they are promoted. In general, the subjects providing special offers such as horse riding, local foods, firm tourism, etc., are more successful.

Abstract Besides more traditional tourist enterprises, tourists in Western Europe and North America regularly seek out even more specific forms of tourist opportunities, such as products of rural tourism. Within rural tourism, agritourism has been developed in these countries as a particular subset, and its significant enhancement in post-socialist European countries was widely anticipated (especially after their integration into the European Union). While considerable and focused attention was devoted to the implementation of agritourism strategies and the characterization of agritourist space with respect to particular countries (e.g. Poland and Slovenia), in Czech geographical literature it has remained a noticeably absent topic. In this paper, central attention is paid to selected characteristics of agritourist space in the Czech Republic, analyzed on the basis of a compiled database of farms diversified into tourism at the municipality level.
