Background/Context This study investigates how people are prepared for professional practice in the clergy, teaching, and clinical psychology. The work is located within research on professional education, and research on the teaching and learning of practice. Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of Study The purpose of the study is to develop a framework to describe and analyze the teaching of practice in professional education programs, specifically preparation for relational practices. Setting The research took place in eight professional education programs located in seminaries, schools of professional psychology, and universities across the country. Population/Participants/Subjects Our research participants include faculty members, students, and administrators at each of these eight programs. Research Design This research is a comparative case study of professional education across three different professions—the clergy, clinical psychology, and teaching. Our data include qualitative case studies of eight preparation programs: two teacher education programs, three seminaries, and three clinical psychology programs. Data Collection and Analysis For each institution, we conducted site visits that included interviews with administrators, faculty, and staff; observations of multiple classes and field-work; and focus groups with students who were either at the midpoint or at the end of their programs. Conclusions/Recommendations We have identified three key concepts for understanding the pedagogies of practice in professional education: representations, decomposition, and approximations of practice. Representations of practice comprise the different ways that practice is represented in professional education and what these various representations make visible to novices. Decomposition of practice involves breaking down practice into its constituent parts for the purposes of teaching and learning. Approximations of practice refer to opportunities to engage in practices that are more or less proximal to the practices of a profession. In this article, we define and provide examples of the representation, decomposition, and approximation of practice from our study of professional education in the clergy, clinical psychology, and teaching. We conclude that, in the program we studied, prospective teachers have fewer opportunities to engage in approximations that focus on contingent, interactive practice than do novices in the other two professions we studied.

Abstract The case for pragmatics instruction in second language (L2) learning has been evidenced by empirical research, although investigations within the context of study abroad are more limited. The objective of this article is to detail the impact of a pedagogical intervention which included explicit teaching and ethnographic field work on the learning of Spanish compliments and compliment responses during a four-week study abroad program. Despite their restricted exposure to the target language community, the 20 participants in the study demonstrated approximation to native norms in their complimenting behavior. These results support the positive benefits of exploiting exposure to the TL community to aid pragmatics instruction in the classroom.

The problem in this research is the study of arabic grammar learning method (Nahwu) at Bayt Tamyiz Islamic Boarding School Indramayu. The study is focused on objective program, evaluation and obstacles in learning arabic grammar (Nahwu). This research is qualitative research with grounded research (field work) approach. The source of data is the leader and teachers at Bayt Tamyiz Islamic Boarding School Indrawayu West Java. In this study found findings of them, Tamyiz book discussion begins with al-sentences (words) letters, noun and verb, traits that noun beginning ma mi mu, classify kana and laisa as letters, characteristic verb present countinous tense 'passive prefix (yu, tu, u, nu),the mujarrad is tsulâtsi verb and tsulâtsî noun, the maqshûr that ends with " alif" as al-dunya, al-mushtafâ and Mûsâ then mabnî, the manqûsh' is mabni for rafa 'and jarr, but when nashab, then' fathah be mu'rab. Noun number called number ibtidaiyah. In fact the word that divides the number of primary into noun and verb. The result of this research indicate corrections to the findings and innovations in the book of Tamyiz, is that the huruf can not be sorted in the first place because it always needs to isim and fi’il. Characteristic of isim it not begining ma mi mu, because confuse students at said noun mazzaqa, mîkho and musiha. Kana and laisa are not letters but they were fi’il, because they received all signs of fi’il. Ismiyah sentence called ibtidaiyah sentence, because word of ibtidaiyah that divide the s3entence into Ismiyah and fi’liyyah. The conclution of this research that the aplication of Arabic grammar learning method (Nahwu) at Bayt Tamyiz Islamic Boarding School is quite effective. And there are some success and obstacles factors in the grammar lesson for students, without disrupting the routine proccess of teaching and learning activities.

Keywords: arabic learning, grammar, learning method

Palavras-chave: Metodologia, Mapeamento, Revista Educação Matemática Pesquisa, Álgebra no Ensino Superior.AbstractIn this article we present a mapping, in the conception of Biembengut, regarding the methodologies adopted in the studies by the authors of the articles regarding the teaching and learning of Algebra in Higher Education published in the journal Mathematical Education Research (EMP) between the years 2010 and 2020. Based on a corpus of work composed by 14 investigations, we intended to identify the objectives, the methodological approach adopted aiming to reach them, the procedures used to collect and analyze the data, the types of sources used, and in case it applies, the subjects. Regarding the methodological perspectives, all 14 articles are of qualitative nature, with a predominance of studies which are purely field works (11), compared to those which are purely documental (two) and those which combine bibliographic research and field work (one). The use of a Study and Research Path, in the framework of the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic, present in two studies, constitutes itself as an innovative methodological approach. In the field works we observe that the themes of the investigations were worked by means of: semi-structured interviews carried out with students of the Mathematics undergraduate programs and with research teachers; interventions with teachers in training, undergraduate Mathematics students, undergraduate Engineering students, students without having their graduation specified and the analysis of participation of subjects (without specifying which) in a forum of Mathematics. Based on the corpus of work analyzed, we are not able to state that there are signs of reconfigurations or reorganizations caused by digital technologies in terms of methodologies of studies in Mathematical Education. Keywords: Methodology, Mapping, Mathematical Education Research Journal, Algebra in Higher Education. The book entitled »Exercises in Travel Writing and Literary Tourism – A Teaching and Learning Experiment« emerged as a result of experimental project work in teaching English during the subject English in Tourism – Higher Level 1 at the Faculty of Tourism in Brežice, University of Maribor. This approach included teaching in the classroom, research in libraries and at home, and field work. The collection brings eight very different texts on Travel Writing and Literary Tourism by Master's students of Tourism, who were free in choosing the topic of the texts, their styles and the titles . The field of Travel Writing is significant, not only as its own discourse, a tourism trend and a tool of branding and embedding attractions and/or destinations, but also as a tool of teaching and learning a foreign language, which, along with upgrading specific language knowledge, encourages curiosity, research, creativity, reflection and self-development.

Nepalese education is often inclined towards rote memorization and teacher centered instruction and learning processes. In this regard, how can instruction be actively made more effective as a key idea as researchers take this into account when conducting research in this area. This study forms an ethnographic case study of one of the schools that is transforming itself from a traditional book-based teaching and learning approach to a curriculum specific child friendly learning process. As researchers and teacher trainers we have been involved in teacher training programs for numbers of schools in Nepal. What we have observed during the four years of involvement is that the training solely do not make changes in the school system. This program is helping teachers in making instructional activities that allows them to galvanize their work for increased student involvement. This research also indicates how moral behavior can be developed through math trail activities where students do field work in groups for different objectives. Children develop their understanding through day to day activities where the perspective of different contexts, culture and ethnic groups play a vital role. At this point, we started working on excursion-based instruction. The change in instruction forces them to design activities and projects that demand children to work in outside school context with curricular objectives. It ensured opportunities for participating in hands-on activities and experiential learning. Finally, this research supports the assumption that mathematical knowledge, skill and moral behavior can be developed through different cultural project-based instructional activities and cultural artifacts and practices are key to ensure effectiveness of learning. Keywords: Ethnomathematics. Math Trail. Abstract The intent of this article is to share my research endeavors in order to raise awareness of issues relative to what and how we teach as a means to spark interest in applying the scholarship of teaching and learning to what we do as faculty in communication sciences and disorders (CSD). My own interest in teaching and learning emerged rather abruptly after I introduced academic service-learning (AS-L) into one of my graduate courses (Stevens, 2002). To better prepare students to enter our profession, I have provided them with unique learning opportunities working with various community partners including both speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and teachers who supported persons with severe communication disorders.

Abstract The use of podcasting is incredibly widespread, with experts estimating that 60 million Americans will be using podcasting in some form by 2010. The use of podcasting has grown beyond entertainment to become an educational tool, showing promise as a way to disseminate information and create networks of professional learners. However, despite the growing clinical and educational uses of podcasting in other professional disciplines, podcasting is being used primarily as a continuing education tool for speech-language pathologists and audiologists at this time. This article provides guidelines and examines the potential applications for use of podcasting in teaching and learning in communication sciences and disorders.
