The purpose of this paper is to serve as a point of departure for discussion of the relationship of regional differentiation and growth to general economic development. In addition to touching on methodological problems, I hope to establish two specific points: (a) that the needs of economic history call for particular perspectives in delimiting regions, and (b) that study of regional interaction can provide insights in an understanding of national economic development.

A study that investigated the relationship between vocabulary instruction and reading comprehension was replicated and extended. The original study showed substantial gains in accuracy of word knowledge and speed of lexical access, but only marginal gains in comprehension. This latter result was attributable to methodological problems, and thus the comprehension measure was revised. In the present study, fourth graders were taught 104 words over a five-month period. Following instruction, these children and a group of uninstructed children matched on pre-instruction vocabulary and comprehension ability performed tasks to measure accuracy of word knowledge, speed of lexical access, and comprehension of stories containing taught words. Instructed children showed substantial advantage in all tasks. Reasons for these results, in contrast to studies that have failed to improve comprehension through vocabulary instruction, are discussed.

The article is devoted to the methodological problems of studying the section "Applied Political Sci-ence" in the course of political science. Revealed its role in the educational process, the relationship with other sections of the discipline. The structure of applied political science, its subject, methods and specificity in relation to theoretical political science are shown. Analyzed the most important problems that need to be considered in the study of applied political science. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of political forecasting and its importance in the management of social and political events and processes. The essence and basic principles of political modeling, the typology of models: material, analog, computer, etc. are con-sidered. Methodological recommendations are given for considering the topics of the section in lectures and practical classes, their importance in the professional training of bachelors is shown.

This study systematically examined the relationship between death anxiety and mental health/distress and controlled for methodological problems present in the literature. Specifically, two measures of death anxiety were used-both had recommended cut-off scores for high death anxiety. Both positive and negative aspects of adjustment were assessed, and a valid clinically meaningful cut-off score for distress was employed. Results revealed high death-anxious females were statistically and clinically more distressed and were significantly less satisfied with life than low death-anxious females. Similar results were obtained for males on one death-anxiety measure; a similar trend was found on the other measure. Discussion focuses on the interpretation of results.

Despite reports of falling first-admission rates for schizophrenia in the UK and other Western countries, it would be rash to conclude that the incidence of schizophrenia is falling. An attempt was made to tackle the many methodological problems and sources of bias influencing the relationship between admission rates and incidence in an analysis of inception rates for schizophrenia and other psychoses in Edinburgh between 1971 and 1989. However it was calculated, the inception rate for schizophrenia fell significantly, but because there was evidence that diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia had narrowed between 1971 and 1989, and because a substantial and changing proportion of recorded first admissions were not true first admissions, it was impossible to conclude that the incidence of schizophrenia had fallen. Changes in the incidence of psychiatric syndromes are difficult to establish, particularly in retrospect, and future studies must pay more attention to the many possible confounding influences.

Geoffrey Elton's model of Tudor politics, which emphasized the importance of political institutions and which dominated our understanding of Tudor politics for much of the second half of the twentieth century, has been challenged by a number of historians for over twenty years. They have re-emphasized the importance of social connections and cultural influences and turned attention away from studying the privy council to studying the court. In doing so, they have gone back to re-examine earlier approaches by Sir John Neale and Conyers Read which Elton had challenged. Yet, these new socially and culturally derived approaches, recently labelled ‘New Tudor political history’, remain varied and its practitioners sometimes at odds with each other. Focusing on both established seminal works and recent research, this review considers the different elements of these approaches in relation to Tudor court politics. It assesses the methodological problems they raise and identifies what shortcomings still remain. It demonstrates that Tudor politics are increasingly defined as based on social networks rather than institutional bodies, making issues of access to, and intimacy with, the monarch central. Our understanding has been further enhanced by exploration of political culture and its relationship to political action. However, the review points to the need to integrate more fully the political role of women and the relationship between the court and the wider political community into our understanding of Tudor politics, as well as place England into a European context.

Adaptation and integration of migrants are the final stages of the migration process, the quality of which largely determines the final result: either serious socio-economic problems will arise that threaten the security of host societies, or migration will contribute to the socio-economic development of host countries. The dependence of migration results on the final stages of migration processes necessitates the implementation of effective adaptation and integration policies by states. In the scientific literature, the terms “adaptation” and “integration” are most often used as synonyms. However, this approach makes it difficult to develop common ideas about the essence of the processes of adaptation and integration of migrants. All this gave rise to theoretical uncertainty regarding these phenomena, led to scientific disagreements that impeded the formation of an effective state policy of adaptation and integration, and complicated the development of scientifically-based programs for solving acute problems in the migration sphere. And as a consequence of this, the problem of a separate theoretical understanding of the above concepts has become actualized. The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate the essence and content of the processes of adaptation and integration of migrants, the state policy of adaptation and the state policy of integration, and thereupon to create a scientific methodological base intended for future use in the state migration policy of the Russian Federation and other countries. The authors set the tasks: to analyze theoretical approaches to the study of the phenomena of adaptation and integration of migrants; to formulate the concepts of “adaptation”, “integration”, “state policy of adaptation”, “state policy of integration”; to present the authors’ vision of these phenomena and identify the relationship between them. Theoretical and methodological problems of modern education and upbringing arouse deep interest and continue to remain highly relevant at the present time, when the issues of the content of education, the need to search for its qualitative originality and compliance with new learning technologies caused by the pandemic are of particular importance. This article identifies and expands the relationship between philosophical hermeneutics and education, emphasizes that philosophical hermeneutics has everything necessary to determine the goal of education and forms the basis for formulating the main tasks that need to be solved at present time, it is noted in the paper the lack of attention to the research of philosophy of education as a vital missing element in the study and practice of modern education today. The author seeks to represent the humanistic character and philosophical status of knowledge that underlie historical educational practice.

The article is of theoretical and methodological nature and allows you to look at the methodological problems of managing a modern metropolis from various theoretical-economic and conceptual-philosophical perspectives. The authors consider various approaches to understanding the specifics of the urban environment and global social shifts connected with an increase of the concentration of the population of various countries within large megalopolises and a shrinkage of economic space; they also analyze the socio-economic, cultural and worldview aspects predetermined by these tendencies. A distinctive feature is a systematic view of the processes taking place in megalopolises under the influence of modern trends in informatization and digitalization of social development. The article considers the megalopolis as an object of scientific knowledge, assesses the relationship of urban studies, as an extremely important modern interdisciplinary science with other sciences, which makes it possible to understand the internal laws of the development of large cities, and presents the current trends and contradictions of their development.
