The article presents the Idaho Geospatial Data Center (IGDC), a digital library of public-domain geographic data for the state of Idaho. The design and implementation of IGDC are introduced as part of the larger context of a geolibrary model. The article presents methodology and tools used to build IGDC with the focus on a geolibrary map browser. The use of IGDC is evaluated from the perspective of accessa and demand for geographic data. Finally, the article offers recommendations for future development of geospatial data centers.

Abstract A concept for the initial stage of the mechanical design and its implementation in the computer-aided design (CAD) are presented. The process of decision making in design is: (1) determining an outline of the whole assembly using a 2-dimensional model that is easy to operate; (2) checking the outline using a 3-dimensional model in which it is easy to identify the spatial relationships; (3) determining details of its sub-assemblies or their components using the 2-dimensional model; and (4) checking the details using the 3-dimensional model. The CAD system must provide consistent relationships through all the steps. For that, following functions are implemented in our prototype system: (1) a 2D and 3D integrated model for consistency between 2- and 3-dimensional shapes, (2) a hierarchical assembly model with dimensional constraints for consistency within an assembly and their components, and (3) a check on constraints for consistency between shapes and designers’ intentions. As a result, the system can provide an environment well fitted to the designers’ decision making process.

As a public service platform of geographic information, National Geospatial Data Center (NGDC) can provide geospatial metadata services for data producers and data users. This paper firstly analyzes the problems in the development and maintenance of geospatial metadata deployment system. Then it describes and analyzes the characteristics of PHP framework and the advantages of developing content management system (CMS) with it. Finally, how to design geospatial metadata deployment system based on PHP framework is discussed in this paper.

The firewall is one of the most important network security facility and is widely used as a base infrastructure in a large enterprise network. When policy changes, the administrator must find all the potential conflicts between existing policies to ensure network security. That's a waste of time and energy. Proceeding from the demands, this paper analyzes key points and difficulties in the design process for the tools, applies mature algorithm of policy conflict detection, and finally proposes a flexible and scalable design. The prototype system proves that the tool does effectively detect all conflicts in policy set, and in the form of reports for the administrator.

Geographical information grid can not only manage geospatial data, but also can manage the spatial distribution of 3-dimensional simulation entities. Using geographical information grid technology could divided the earth into different resolution of global series of geographic grid, registering the grid according to the geographical coordinates and technique index of simulation entities, building space position relations between entities, , improving the computation efficiency of connectivity test of simulation entity based on geographic grid simulation entity beforehand.

Flooding caused serious losses in China in the past two decades; therefore, responding to and mitigating the impact of flooding is a task of critical importance. The traditional flood response process is usually very time-consuming and labor-intensive. The Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based flood response is a method with low efficiency due to the large volume of geospatial data transfer, and this method cannot meet the real-time requirement of a rapid response to flooding. This paper presents an Agent- and Cloud-supported geospatial service aggregation to obtain a more efficient geospatial service system for the response to flooding. The architecture of this method is designed and deployed on the Cloud environment, and the flooding response prototype system is built on the Amazon AWS Cloud to demonstrate that the proposed method can avoid transferring large volumes of geospatial data or Big Spatial Data. Consequently, this method is able to achieve better performance than that of the SOA-based method.
