This article presents a selection of Internet resources covering most of the subject areas found in standard medical education curricula. Basic-sciences sites are emphasized, but clinical resources are also included. Sites were evaluated on the basis of their potential to enhance the learning process, provide practice questions or study guides for examinations, or aid in the preparation of papers. Podiatric medical students, residents, and practitioners who require a quick reference guide to sources covering the basic-science foundations of podiatric medicine or the clinical side of general medicine may find this article useful. In this article, we present a selection of Internet resources covering subject areas found in standard medical education curricula. Basic sciences and clinical resource sites are explored. We also review Web sites that offer useful materials that can be downloaded to handheld devices such as palmtop computers, smartphones, and portable media players. We judged the sites based on their potential to enhance the learning process, provide practice questions or study guides for examinations, or aid in the preparation of manuscripts. Medical students, residents, educators, and practitioners of podiatric medicine and surgery who require a quick reference source to either the basic science foundations of podiatric medicine or the clinical side of basic medicine, may find this paper useful. General medical and podiatric medical resources are emphasized. The issue of selecting the subject content of teaching a foreign language for students of non-linguistic specialties is one of the topical issues facing many authors dealing with the teaching of foreign languages. For many specialties, this issue remains open. Few authors come to a common opinion on this issue, but separate courses are already ready for a number of specialties. However, on the issue of selecting the subject content of teaching a foreign language in a medical university, many practicing teachers have not come to a consensus. We examine the issue of teaching a foreign language in the framework of two directions: ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). We consider the issue of the subject content of training and give our understanding of this topic in the framework of teaching the specialty of medical students and propose to highlight the subject aspects of the content of teaching a foreign language for professional communication of students of medical universities of the specialties “General Medicine” and “Dentistry”.

The article presents a methodological approach to studying iterative processes in the school course of geometry, by the example of constructing a Koch snowflake fractal curve and calculating a few characteristics of it. The interactive creative environment 1C:MathKit is chosen to visualize the method discussed. By performing repetitive constructions and algebraic calculations using ICT tools, students acquire a steady skill of work with geometric objects of various levels of complexity, comprehend the possibilities of mathematical interpretation of iterative processes in practice, and learn how to understand the dialectical unity between finite and infinite parameters of flat geometric figures. When students are getting familiar with such contradictory concepts and categories, that replenishes their experience of worldview comprehension of the subject areas they study through the concept of “big ideas”. The latter allows them to take a fresh look at the processes in the world around. The article is a matter of interest to schoolteachers of computer science and mathematics, as well as university scholars who teach the course “Concepts of modern natural sciences”.

The recent reprinting of Álvaro de Silva’s 1998 edition of a selection of More’s letters prompts the author to examine the subject of Spanish translations of More, and of de Silva’s general commentary on More’s correspondence and on his relationship to other humanists. The author reflects on aspects of More’s personality as exposed in his letters and uses what he finds as a corrective to several biographical misconceptions. He points out the strengths and weaknesses of de Silva’s work and compares it with that of other translators, particularly Elizabeth Rogers, and notes the particularly Spanish quality of de Silva’s edition.

Background: This research was birthed in 2017 during a trip to Lusaka, Zambia, with the purpose of offering fourth-year, medical students attending the University of Zambia, School of Medicine, lectures on psychology topics as part of their clinical studies.  Students were also offered brief therapy sessions where they could process thoughts and feelings causing them internal struggles.  The subject of offering counseling on a regular basis was randomly discussed with the students.  From these discussions the need for this research became evident, with the intent of becoming the launching pad to brainstorm the most effective ways of developing a plan to offer counseling services for all medical students attending the University of Zambia School of Medicine. Methods: An-experimental research design, consisting of completion of a 12-item questionnaire administered by paper and pen. The inclusion criteria were the fourth year, medical students attending the University of Zambia, School of Medicine. Results:  The student responses revealed that most of them had little to no experience with counseling services, but a strong desire for them. Discussion: The goal of this study was to simply establish a need for an on-campus counseling service, the need of which has been established by the very students who would benefit.  With the acceptance of this need, the future plan is to explore the different ways in which this need can be fulfilled with minimal costs to the Medical School Program. Conclusion:  This study is the first step towards identifying the needs of the medical students and sets the ground-work for further research into the specific areas of need and mental health challenges.  More specificity in the area of demographics of students will produce a more comprehensive picture of the areas of concentration for the therapists offering services.

The object of the research when writing the work was the body of text data collected together with the scientific advisor and the algorithms for processing the natural language of analysis. The stream of hypotheses has been tested against computer science scientific publications through a series of simulation experiments described in this dissertation. The subject of the research is algorithms and the results of the algorithms, aimed at predicting promising topics and terms that appear in the course of time in the scientific environment. The result of this work is a set of machine learning models, with the help of which experiments were carried out to identify promising terms and semantic relationships in the text corpus. The resulting models can be used for semantic processing and analysis of other subject areas.

This review is devoted to the monograph by Jan Nedvěd “We do not decline our heads. The events of the year 1968 in Karlovy Vary”. The Karlovy Vary municipal museum coincided its publishing with the fiftieth anniversary of the Prague spring which, considering the way of the presentation, turned the book not only to scientific event but also to the social one. The book describes sociopolitical trends in the region before the year 1968, the development of the reformist movement, the invasion and advance of the armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and finally the decline of the reformist mood and the beginning of the normalization. Working on his writing, the author deeply studied the materials of the local archive and gathered the unique selection of the photographs depicting the passage of the soviet army through the spa town and the protest actions of its inhabitants. In the meantime, Nedvěd takes undue freedom with scientific terms, and his selection of historiography raises questions. The author bases his research on the Czech papers and scarcely uses the books of Russian origin. He also did not study the subject of the participating of the GDR’s army in the operation Danube, although these troops were concentrated on the borders of Karlovy Vary region as well. Because of this decision, there are no materials from German archives or historiography in the monograph. In general, the work lacks the width of studying its subject, but it definitively accomplishes the task of depicting the Prague spring from the regional perspective.

Goal. Identify trends and prospects for the development of radar in terms of the use of convolutional neural networks for target detection. Materials and methods. Analysis of relevant printed materials related to the subject areas of radar and convolutional neural networks. Results. The transition to convolutional neural networks in the field of radar is considered. A review of papers on the use of convolutional neural networks in pattern recognition problems, in particular, in the radar problem, is carried out. Hardware costs for the implementation of convolutional neural networks are analyzed. Conclusion. The conclusion is made about the need to create a methodology for selecting a network topology depending on the parameters of the radar task.
