Background: Tai Chi is Chinese martial art strengthening the performance of individuals. Objectives: The purpose of present study is to determine the effect of a Tai Chi exercise period on static and dynamic balance of young girls. Methods: For the purpose of this research, 32 young girls were voluntarily selected and randomly divided into two groups: Tai Chi training group (21 subjects; mean ± SD; age 22.05±2.4 weight 53.67±6.3 kg, height 1.60±0.5 m) and control group (11 subjects; mean ± SD; age 23.37±0.9 weight 53.64±7.8 kg, height 1.62±0.4 m) players. Static and dynamic balance were measured using Biodex Balance System SD three days before and after a 12-session training period with similar conditions in terms of time and place (75 minutes each session). Results: Mixed repeated measure test showed a significant difference between pre and post-tests in open eye single-foot, closed eye single-foot, open eye two-foot, and closed eye two-foot stances (p=0.001). However, no significant difference was revealed in the control group (p>0.05). While there was better balance state in all stances of Tai Chi group, no significant difference was observed between the groups in this respect (p>0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this research indicated the effectiveness of Tai Chi exercises on static and dynamic balance of young girls. Although there was no significant difference in effect of exercise between training and control groups, mean percentage of changes in training group revealed the effectiveness of exercise in training group compared to control. Therefore, Tai Chi exercises can be recommended to treat and prevent injury due to poor balance. We suggested performing Tai Chi more than 12 session in order to enhance it influences.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pelatihan 30 second box drill dan 60 second box drill terhadap peningkatan daya ledak otot tungkai. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi) dengan rancangan the non-randomized pretest posttest control groups design. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 30 orang. Daya ledak otot tungkai diukur dengan vertical jump test dan data dianalisis dengan uji-t independent, uji anava satu jalur dan uji least significant difference (LSD) pada taraf signifikansi (α) 0,05 dengan bantuan SPSS 16,0. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis antara gaint-score kelompok pelatihan 30 second box drill, 60 second box drill dan kelompok kontrol pada variable daya ledak otot tungkai, hasil analisis data menggunakan uji-t independent menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan 30 second box drill dan 30 second box drill berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan daya ledak otot tungkai dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 dan 0,000 (SigKata Kunci : pelatihan 30 second box drill, pelatihan 60 seond box drill, daya ledak otot tungkai This study aimed to know the effect of 30 second box drill training and 60 second box drill training toward the increase of explosive power of leg muscle. This study is quasi experiment research with thenon-randomized pretest posttest control groups design. Subjects of this study were 30 people. The explosive power of leg muscle was measured by vertical jump test and analyzed by independent t-test, one lane anava test and test of least significant difference (LSD) in the significant standard (α) 0,05 by using SPSS 16,0. Based on the result of hypothesis between gaint-score on training group of 30 second box drill, 60 second box drill and control group on the variable of explosive power of leg muscle, result of analysis by using independent t-test showed that 30 second box drill training and 30 second box drill training influenced the explosion power of leg muscle in the significant value of 0,000 and 0,000 (Sigkeyword : 30 second box drill, 60 second box drill,explosive power

Background: The diagnosis and the treatment for cancer are significant stressors for the patients. It can affect physical as well as psychological well-being. Variations in salivary amylase indicate physiological responses to the stressful experience during chemotherapy. Music therapy is witnessed to decrease psychosocial distress in the oncology setting. Listening to music can positively benefit neurophysiologic and emotional responses as well as promote relaxation, especially beneficial for cancer patients undergoing painful and anxiety-inducing chemotherapy. It is, therefore nurses, who are so familiar with this environment, not only to be aware of this anxiety-producing process but to cope with it and to alleviate it for the patient as much as possible. Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the salivary amylase levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy before and after listening to preferred music. Design: Quasi-experimental repeated measure design. Setting; Experimental and control group were recruited from two oncology units of selected multispecialty hospitals. Participants: Purposive sampling techniques were used to select the study participants. Patients of age group eighteen and above, undergoing first time chemotherapy treatment and the chemotherapy infusion lasts for minimum of 3 hours duration was the inclusion criteria whereas Patients who were unable to listen to music due to hearing problems, those who were with head and neck cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid problems were excluded from the study. 168 eligible participants were recruited among which 8 were unable to continue. Methods: Saliva was collected from both the study groups before and after the chemotherapy administration. The patient preferred instrumental music intervention was administered for the duration of 3 hours during chemotherapy with the help of mp3 player and musical pillow in the experimental group where the control group had a routine oncology unit care and they were rested on a bed during the chemotherapy administration. The post-tests were done on day 3 and day 5. Results: Significant changes in mean salivary amylase were observed in the experimental group compared to the control group (p˂0.05). Repeated measure ANOVA also showed a significant difference (p˂0.05) in the experimental group at different time points of observation. There was a significant association between the baseline amylase level and stage of cancer in both the experimental and control group (p˂0.05). Conclusion: Music was effective in patients undergoing chemotherapy in terms of reduction in salivary amylase level.

Education prepares one for the world of work; hence, the adoption of the innovative instructional approach employed in the process of teaching and learning is key to the attainment of this goal. To mitigate students’ poor achievement in computer programming (CP), innovative pedagogy (IP) was adopted to make students become active learners in classroom learning. In this study, a quasi-experimental design was used and nonrandomized the subject with pretest and posttest. Students (N = 145) were nonrandomized to the treatment and control groups. The researchers conducted a repeated measure of analysis of variance to determine the change between the experimental and control groups. Students’ attributes were tested for differences by comparing categorical data with chi-square statistics. The interaction effect was determined using an analysis of covariance. The results revealed that the experimental group’s CP achievement test results outperformed those of the control group at posttest and retention tests. Furthermore, the findings of the study show that there is no significant difference in students’ academic achievement across ability levels and gender. Also, there is no interaction between the pretest and the IP. The study, therefore, recommends that computer educators should adopt innovative teaching practices in their day-to-day teaching since it is more creative, learner-centered, and improved student engagement.

Balance ability decreases with age, which results in an increased risk of falls for people over age 65. Tai Chi exercise appears to offer potential benefits in the reduction of falls for the elderly. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of extended (6- and 12-month) Tai Chi exercise interventions on balance and selected motor functions for senior citizens. Forty-seven subjects were recruited from two local senior centers. Twenty of them ( M = 71.8 years, SD = 7.1), 11 in the Tai Chi exercise group and 9 in the control group, completed the pre-, mid- and post-tests over 12 months on five selected functional performance tests: static balance, dynamic balance, choice reaction time, heel-rise strength, and ankle flexibility. The Tai Chi group was provided with a one-hour Tai Chi exercise session per week for 12 months; the control group did not participate in any exercise program. Results showed that static balance improved significantly after a 6-month Tai Chi intervention. Moreover, the Tai Chi group maintained a higher level in the test performance compared with the control group at the end of the 12-month intervention, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. Data suggested that Tai Chi exercise intervention could produce a positive influence on balance control for the elderly over a prolonged period, but not on muscle strength and ankle flexibility.

Objective: This study investigated the efficacy of meaning-centred therapy (MCT) in the management of substance use disorders (SUD) in Nigeria. Methods: A pre-test post-test control group experimental study was conducted among young individuals with substance use disorders.  Participants were purposively selected and randomly assigned to treatment (MCT) and control groups. Participants' mean age was 22.05±2.14 years. Assessments of both groups were done at intake, immediately after completion of the therapy (which is 10-weeks), and at 1-month follow-up. Independent-sample t-test and one-way repeated measure of analysis of variance were used for analyses at 0.05 significant level. Result: Individuals in the MCT group reported significantly lower substance use disorder symptoms compared to those in the control group. There was an overall significant difference between the SUD means of participants that received MCT at pre-test, post-test, and 1-month follow-up. Conclusion: It was concluded that MCT provided effective treatment of substance use disorder among the Nigerian population; its utilization is therefore recommended.

Abstract Introduction: Running has increased significantly in recent years due to its benefits and practicality. However, like any sport, running poses a risk of injury, leading to the need for clinical intervention and even its practitioners quitting the sport. Therefore, preventive strategies seeking to minimize the occurrence and consequences of such risk factors in these athletes are pivotal. Objective: To investigate the preventive effects of a sensorimotor training protocol on the balance and pelvic stability of runners. Methods: The study sample consisted of fourteen 10-km runners of both genders divided into two groups: the control group (CG) and the sensorimotor training group (SMTG). Both groups were evaluated using the single-leg stance test (static balance), Trendelenburg test (pelvic stability), and hop test (dynamic balance). The SMTG underwent 16 interventions, while the CG did not receive any intervention. Results: The SMTG showed a significant increase in the permanence time of the single-leg stance test (p < 0.05) and a reduction in knee valgus during impulse and landing moments of the single hop test only in the right lower limb (p < 0.05), while the CG showed no significant difference in all tests applied (p > 0.05). Regarding pelvic stability, there was no significant difference in any of the groups. Conclusion: The proposed protocol significantly improved the static balance of the SMTG, but not the pelvic stability.

The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of imagination and cognitive learning exercises, which are applied to increase the success of elite handball players, on their balance skills.The research group consists of a total of 36 voluntary male athletes, 18 of which are the control group and 18 of them are the experimental group, aged between 14 and 16, with at least 5 years of sports experience, who have been playing handball in Kayseri Youth Sports Club. For the study group, 8-day, 30-minute cognitive training and imagination study program was applied as two sets per day. No exercise was applied to the control group. Static and dynamic balance tests were applied to all of the participants (study and control group at the beginning and end of the study. According to the results of the analysis performed at the end of the study, a significant difference was found between the post-test results of all balance parameters of the experimental and control groups (p <0.05). When the pre-test and post-test results of the control group were compared, there was a significant difference between the scores of Static, Level8, Level4 and Oscillation CE (p<0.05) and there was no significant difference between Level2 and Oscillation OE (p>0.05). When the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group were compared, a significant difference was found between all equilibrium parameters (p<0.05).As the result, it was found that cognitive imagination programs have positive effects on learning the balance skills in handball players under the light of the obtained findings.

Objective: To study the effect of training under high temperature on blood and heat shock protein 72(HSP72)expression of flying saucer athletes. Methods: The numbers of training group and control group are 30. Twenty-four flying saucer athletes in Zhejiang province were selected and randomly divided into training group and control group, 15 in each group. Peripheral venous blood of each group was taken before and after the experiment. The HSP72 content of lymphocyte, blood routine and biochemical indexes were measured respectively. Results: There was significant difference in white blood cell in training group count before and after the experiment(P< 0.05). The expression of HSP72 and the white blood cell in training group was higher than that control group(P< 0.05). Conclusions: Organism could be affected and turned to stress state due to training under high temperature. It is necessary to provide the safeguard for the flying saucer athletes under high temperature in order to prevent the damage.

Objective: Catheter management is conducted to the patients undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). There were many arguments between clinical practitioners about bladder training procedure after TURP procedure. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between bladder training action and success of spontaneous micturition in post TURP procedure in patients with urinary retention caused by prostate enlargement. Material & methods: Randomized clinical trial was conducted at Kardinah General Hospital, Tegal from October 2015 to February 2016. 44 study participants who underwent TURP were randomly allocated into two groups. In Group I, patient’s Folley catheter was clamped prior to its removal (bladder training group); and in Group II was not clamped (control group). Results: Mean age of patients was 64.48 ± 8.1 years old. There were 23 patients (52.3%) have had history of recurrent urinary retention and 21 patients (47.7%) have had not (p=0.560). There were 4 patients (17.4%) in Group I and 1 patient (4.7%) in Group II who required re-catheterization and discharge with catheter. There was no statistically significant difference in spontaneous micturition rate between bladder training group and control group (p=0.187).  Conclusion: The result of the current study identified that bladder training to patients undergoing TURP procedure had no significant impact in spontaneous micturition.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of six-week aquatic exercise on the static and semi-dynamic balance of male patients with chronic ischemic stroke (CIS). Patients and methods: This randomized clinical trial (RCT) included a total of 36 male CIS patients (mean age 60.2±6.7 years; range, 40 to 70 years) between January 2015 and January 2017. The patients were randomly divided into three groups consisting of 12 patients in each group: (i) exercising in shallow water, (ii) exercising in deep water, and (iii) control group. Training sessions were held three days a week for six weeks, and the control group did not participate in these sessions. The balance of the patients was checked using the Biodex balance system in two stages. Results: There was no significant difference between the two intervention groups (shallow and deep) in terms of the balance assessment post-test (p>0.05), yet there was a statistically significant difference between the two intervention groups (shallow and deep) with the control group in terms of the semi-dynamic balance (total) score, (p<0.05); the semi-dynamic balance (total) of the two intervention groups (shallow and deep) was higher than that of the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our study results indicate that exercise in both depths is a suitable solution to improve balance, particularly semi-dynamic balance (total) in male CIS patients. Accordingly, aquatic training has a positive effect on balance in male stroke patients and we can prescribe this protocol as a useful remedy for these patients.
