Physical restraint is still frequently used in many countries. However, a lack of education hinders physical restraint reduction in long-term care facilities. No study has yet to examine the effects of physical restraint reduction education on nursing students. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a web-based educational program of physical restraint reduction on nursing students’ knowledge and perceptions. A cluster randomized controlled and single-blind design was used. This study was conducted at four nursing schools in South Korea. A total of 169 undergraduate nursing students completed this study. Using random allocation, two nursing schools (85 students) were allocated as the experimental group and the other two schools (84 students) as the control group. The experimental group received the web-based educational program, and the control group did not receive the educational program. Data were collected immediately before and after the web-based educational program. The experimental group’s knowledge and perceptions significantly improved between pre-test and post-test. The analysis of covariance showed statistically significant differences between groups in knowledge (p < 0.001) and perceptions (p < 0.001) over time, revealing positive effects of the web-based educational program. The web-based educational program regarding physical restraint reduction positively affected nursing students’ knowledge and perceptions. Future studies are required to examine the educational program’s longitudinal effects with more rigorous measurements and research methods.

Nursing is a respect for dignity and treating every person equally. Qualifying competent and ethical nurses requires the incorporation of a professional code of ethics with clinical nursing practice. However, no study was conducted on the relationship between professional ethics and clinical nursing practice. Therefore this study aimed to determine correlation between professional ethics and pediatrics clinical practice from an achievement perspective. Accordingly, cross-sectional study design was conducted at Mizan-Tepi University using nursing students’ academic achievements at professional ethics and pediatric practice. Collected data were entered into Epi info 7. SPSS version 21.0 was used to calculate spearman’s rho correlation ( rs) and coefficient of determination ( R2) at P  < .05. A total of 316 study participants comprising of 209 (66.14%) male and 107 (33.86%) female nursing students included in the current study. Nursing students’ academic achievements at professional ethics was significantly and positively associated with achievements at pediatrics clinical practice ( rs  = 0.4-0.6), P < .001. Linear regression results revealed 25% to 26.7% coefficient determination for regular students and 18% to 22.9% for summer nursing students. To sum up, there was a significant positive association between achievements of students at professional ethics and pediatrics clinical practice. Therefore increasing students’ academic achievement in professional ethics can further improve their achievements at pediatrics clinical practice. However, academic achievement in professional ethics explained 22.35% of the variability in achievements at pediatric clinical practice. 77.65% of the variability in pediatrics clinical practice was due to other factors that deserve another study.

Throughout the globe, university schools of nursing have implemented foreign exchange excursions for nursing students to experience nursing care of a variety of patients from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds. There is a dearth of these clinical placements though that are focused upon developing student awareness of nursing placement leaders. This article describes the learning provided from clinical nursing mentors who guide the students in enhancing their awareness of cultural awareness, socialized and capitalistic healthcare, as well as the role of nursing leaders. This article’s purpose is to showcase an international program that has been in existence for eleven years that has combined the educational and clinical focus of two international university schools of nursing and two children’s hospitals that are located in a district in Great Britain, as well as the Southeastern United States. This program utilizes a special educational clinical placement method that has allowed both students from Great Britain and the Southeastern United States to select their clinical nursing mentor and specify the desired learning environment in both the hospital clinical and community environment. Both successes and challenges of the joint international clinical placement program are presented and the recommendations for other schools of nursing as well as clinical hospital agencies that desire to embark on developing a mutually satisfying clinical placement program. Study Results

Background: Cervical cancer is a growing health risk facing women worldwide with the human papillomavirus (HPV) as the primary underlying cause. Pap smear is a simple screening test that can detect early changes in cervical cells, which might develop into cancer cells. Raising awareness of cervical cancer prevention has a significant impact on decreasing the burden of the disease. The aim of the study is to assess female nursing students' knowledge on early detection and screening of cervical cancer, and to determine the effectiveness of an educational program. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design (one group for pre- and post-tests) was utilized with a convenience sample of 130 female nursing students in one of the nursing colleges in Saudi Arabia. The study’s educational intervention included information about anatomy of genital tract and the importance of regular check-ups. The pre- and post-tests were applied to identify changes after intervention measures. Results: The mean age of the participants were 21.32 years (SD: 1.34). The findings revealed a significant improvement of post-test students’ knowledge in all items related to risk factors, signs and symptoms, occurrence, identification of HPV as causative agent, vaccination against HPV, and finally Pap smear for early detection and screening of cervical cancer. Conclusion: The study results support implementing educational intervention to improve nursing students' knowledge and awareness about cervical cancer prevention. Furthermore, it is imperative that cervical cancer awareness education modules should be developed and integrated within the nursing curriculum. Further studies with large sample size are recommended to increase generalization of the results.  Key words: cervical cancer, education program, primary prevention, nursing students, Saudi Arabia

This chapter presents an overview of an innovative teaching approach in an undergraduate nursing degree at Charles Darwin University (CDU). The authors describe the development and initial integration into the first year clinical nursing subject of a virtual learning space using a case-based approach to address some of the issues associated with an externalised Bachelor of Nursing program. In addition, the use of the CDU vHospital® in supporting early role socialisation into nursing and professional identity of first year nursing students will be explored. The findings and outcomes of formal and informal evaluations of the resource are also presented. Lastly, the authors identify recommendations for future development and areas for potential future research.
