Education and training activities with today's developing information technology; shows the need for different learning techniques, different educational tools and different learning environments in the lessons. In the modern societies, agricultural areas, historical and cultural areas and museums are also used as an out-of-school education environment. The museums, which are defined as the space where carefully collected pieces of cultural values created by civilizations that lived in different geographies and times are exhibited together, have an important place in understanding the past of today's societies In this respect, the Museum of Islamic Science and Technology History, which was established with the efforts of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, one of the important scientists who grew up in the Republic period, is an important building in terms of introducing Islamic Science History studies to young generations. The museum, which was opened in 2008, consists of two floors and includes departments related to Astronomy, Clock Technology, Maritime, War Technology, Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics-Geometry, Urbanism, Architecture, Optics and Geography. The question of "How is the contribution of museums to geography education?" constitutes of the basis of the study. In this study, which was prepared to see the effect of the Islamic Science and Technology History Museum on secondary school students' understanding of geography science and history, the students were asked questions with a semi-structured interview form consisting of eight questions that were created by taking expert opinion. The answers given in the interview were categorized and interpreted. The names of the students participating in the study were kept confidential and more sincere answers were tried to be obtained. According to the answers given, it was concluded that there are enlightening works and information shedding light on geography and geography education from the past to the present in the Islamic Science and Technology History Museum, that students at secondary education level have positively changed their view of the history of geography and contribute to the promote of national, spiritual and cultural values related to geography. This study sought to assess the extent of research collaboration in Library and Information Science (LIS) schools in South Africa between 1991 and 2012. Informetric research techniques were used to obtain relevant data for the study. The data was extracted from two EBSCO-hosted databases, namely, Library and Information Science Source (LISS) and Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA). The search was limited to scholarly peer reviewed articles published between 1991 and 2012. The data was analysed using Microsoft Excel ©2010 and UCINET for Windows ©2002 software packages. The findings revealed that research collaboration in LIS schools in South Africa has increased over the past two decades and mainly occurred between colleagues from the same department and institution; there were also collaborative activities at other levels, such as inter-institutional and inter-country, although to a limited extent; differences were noticeable when ranking authors according to different computations of their collaborative contributions; and educator-practitioner collaboration was rare. Several conclusions and recommendations based on the findings are offered in the article.

The article is devoted to the work Alexander S. Nikolaev (1877 – 1934) in the Petrograd Institute of Out-of-School Education in late 1910s – early 1920s. His teaching activities at the Institute and the place of archival issues in the program of its museum department have been studied on the basis of archival documents. The Institute initially focused on training of instructors and employees of cultural institutions, school teachers for adults and universities professors. The Institute had a museum section (department – faculty), on the basis of which several exemplary workshops for creating of manuals and their mastering were to be organized. That is the context in which A. S. Nikolaev’s projects of archival museum creation should be studied. One of such projects worked out by Nikolaev at that time has gone unnoticed until its publication in the Appendix. The connection of this project with the development level of museum affairs of the period is shown. Nikolaev's aspiration to show evolution of archiving and to follow fond formation stage by stage and his use of photographic and graphic materials are also noted. Moreover, it is the first assessment of the work of the Institute as one of the centers for teaching archiving in late 1910s – early 1920s.Training at the museum department of the Institute included a number of courses in both archiving and preservation of documentary monuments. This was due not only to the traditional proximity of archiving and museum work, but also to the circumstances of the first post-revolutionary years. Many museums (located in palaces and mansions of nobility) acquired valuable archival collections. They looked for an opportunity to use these in their scientific activities and exhibitions. The latter was due to the emphasis put on history of daily life and introduction of sociological method in museum work.

During the past two decades, there has been a significant growth of sociological studies into the ‘body pedagogics’ of cultural transmission, reproduction and change. Rejecting the tendency to over-valorise cognitive information, these investigations have explored the importance of corporeal capacities, habits and techniques in the processes associated with belonging to specific ‘ways of life’. Focused on practical issues associated with ‘knowing how’ to operate within specific cultures, however, body pedagogic analyses have been less effective at accounting for the incarnation of cultural values. Addressing this limitation, with reference to the radically diverse norms involved historically and contemporarily in ‘vélo worlds’, I develop Dewey’s pragmatist transactionalism by arguing that the social, material and intellectual processes involved in learning physical techniques inevitably entail a concurrent entanglement with, and development of, values.

This chapter assesses China’s science and technology (S&T) progress through the lens of the patenting literature in the context of China. In particular, after presenting an overview of China’s patent production over the past twenty-five years, it investigates the following questions: What accounts for China’s patent surge? What are the implications of the surge for patent quality? Does the nature of the patenting reveal China’s S&T direction and comparative advantage? How has the international sector affected China’s patent production? What has been the role of the government—the central, provincial, and local governments—in shaping patent production? And finally, how heterogeneous is China’s regional patent production; are patenting capabilities diffusing across China?

The article discusses the issue of the dynamics of changes in IT tools that have been and are used to make management decisions in the work of the university admission committee. The main directions of the work of the admission committee are highlighted: organizational and methodological, technological, the actual admission campaign and generalization, as the final stage at which the results of the admission campaign are summed up. The features of each of the directions are highlighted and the IT tools that were used for them are indicated. It is shown that over the past two decades, IT tools have undergone drastic changes, which are associated with an increase in the functionality of the admission committee. Arguments are given in support of the thesis that the solution for automating the management activities of the university, in particular for the admission campaign, over the past years has been a domestic software on the 1C:Enterprise platform — the 1C:University system. The article presents the stage-by-stage coordination of the admission campaign — from planning and forming the required list of documents (application of the applicant, receipt, examination sheets) to processing information about entrance examinations and USE results, forming enrollment orders. It is shown that the 1C:University system occupies an important place in the automation of many processes taking place in the admission office of the university. Online services that are important for the organization of the admission campaign are described.
