The increase in the internationalization of universities has been accompanied by an increase in multiculturalism in classrooms. Due to this situation, with the objective of knowing the conceptions of university professors around pluricultural competence and attending to the connection with their positioning in relation to the models of cosmopolitan citizenship; a mixed research is developed in the Hispanic-Japanese context of higher education, focusing attention on education and social sciences professors. In general, it is concluded that there are connections between the positioning of multiculturalism and cosmopolitan citizenship. Thus, the university professors of both countries highlight the advantages of cultural plurality in educational environments and, despite the fact that there is governmental support for academic internationalization, in the sample of Japanese professors, there is a greater concern about the preservation of national identity in cultural plurality.

The presence in the world of the pandemic known as Covid-19 has brought with it challenges and challenges in all areas, but especially in the educational context. The University of Granma responds to the intention of promoting the use of technologies in the improvement of Higher Education and in current times has had to enhance this aspect due to the need for social distancing. This work presents some of the alternatives that have been adopted in the House of Higher Studies and how young people have assimilated them, based on the experiences obtained in the teaching of the Communication course, which belongs to the Sociocultural Management for Development career from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. The epidemiological situation has not prevented the training of comprehensive and competent professionals, on the contrary, it has enabled students to achieve self-management of knowledge and meaningful learning, using virtual teaching- learning environments.

The article discusses the potential opportunities for leaders of higher education to monitor and implement development management functions using a system of key performance indicators, which is often used by various business entities. The authors adapted it to the needs of higher education institutions, integrating them with their characteristics.The formation of a system of key performance indicators in the article is disclosed from the point of view of improving the management system and motivation of the management and teaching staff of higher education. Approbation of the proposed methodology was implemented in the Institution of Higher Education, where it showed its effectiveness. The new system allowed the university professors to influence directly on the bonus part of income through their own work and efficiency.

The delivery of higher education in refugee contexts is no stranger to dealing with the unforeseen and responding to the needs of vulnerable learners. Being flexible and adaptable to a multitude of challenges and obstacles is a core component of any scaffolding that wishes to support refugee higher education programmes. InZone, an academic and humanitarian programme at the University of Geneva, has empirically developed a flexible and adaptable ‘learning ecosystem’ to scaffold its delivery of higher education programmes in Africa and the Middle East. This chapter explores how this responsive ecosystem has enabled top tier university programmes in some of the most challenging educational environments between 2017 and 2018. The functioning of the ecosystem is explored within the context of the lived reality of learners in the camps and course participation data is shared to evaluate the effectiveness of the learning ecosystem as a scaffold for enabling higher education in refugee contexts. Lessons learned point to recommendations for pedagogical innovations that could be employed to cope with pedagogical disruptions for the wider education world during testing times such as Covid19.

The presence of technology on college campuses has increased rapidly in recent years. Students come to the classroom with a variety of technological devices including smart phones, tablets, or laptops and use them during academic activity. For this reason, there are many researchers who, in recent times, have been interested in the problems derived from digital distraction in higher education. In many cases, researchers have conducted studies and surveys to obtain first-hand information from the protagonists, that is, from university professors and students. Despite the efforts, there are many questions that still remain unanswered. The authors are aware of the enormous challenge that the use of technology poses in the university classrooms and want to delve into the causes and consequences of student digital distraction and the strategies that can be used by instructors to curb student digital distraction without deteriorating student-instructor rapport in the context of higher education.

It is indicated in the lecture that higher education (universities) is one of the fundamentalentities that change the image of cultural and civilizational life. Nowadays, its existence in Poland is based on the European Union projects, including rules of so called the Bologna process. Changes in theimage and development of the Polish academicism that have been taking place, became subject of deep criticism made by scientific communities, as well as broad publicopinion. In the process of these changes a clash between traditional values and information society creation was revealed. A particularly critical attitude towards the present development of academicism at the University is presented by representatives of humanities and social sciences.

The purpose of the work is to evaluate the potential of a high school teacher; the subject of study is employment potential and competitiveness of the university faculty member; research methods include analysis of statistical data and online-survey. The article presents the results of the research potential of the university teaching staff in the conditions of ongoing reforms in higher education and in connection with changing requirements to higher education institutions forfaculty members. It was determined that faculty members demonstrate high loyalty and commitment, but average engagement. It was revealed that the institution creates proper conditions for development and self-realization, creativity and communication. It was confirmed that university professors have a high scientific and innovative potential and willingness to conduct research. The conclusion is that the employment potential of university staff is not used to the full. It was determined that the majority of the teaching staff appreciates personal competitiveness. And only one out of five is aware of the need to develop their personal competitiveness in line with the new requirements. The results of the study may be useful for university governance within the management of human resources quality.

RESUMEN: El objetivo fundamental de este trabajo era precisar los modelos docentes de los profesores universitarios para corroborar si se ajustaban a los requerimientos del espacio europeo de educación superior (que preconiza un modelo centrado en el aprendizaje con dominio de competencias pedagógicas). Encontramos dos modelos, uno centrado en el aprendizaje y otro centrado en la enseñanza, y otros dos modelos intermedios. Un grupo de profesores (alrededor de un 48% de la muestra de 326 profesores) se encuadraba en el modelo centrado en el aprendizaje, de corte constructivista, y se subdividía en dos grupos, uno de ellos más centrado en el aprendizaje y con más habilidades docentes. También encontramos otro grupo (alrededor del 52% de los profesores), centrado en la enseñanza y que utilizaba metodologías tradicionales. Este grupo también se subdividía en otros dos, uno más tradicional y con menos habilidades docentes que el otro. Estos resultados reclaman la atención de los gestores universitarios y el diseño de ofertas racionales de formación que ayuden a los profesores a adquirir las competencias pedagógicas necesarias.ABSTRACT: The main objective of this work was to specify the teaching models of university professors in order to find out whether they meet the requirements of the European higher education area (which upholds a learning-centred model with pedagogical competencies). We found two models, one of them learning-centred and the other one teaching-centred, with two intermediate models. A group of professors (around 48% of the sample of 326 professors) fitted with the constructivist learning-centred model, and this group was subdivided into two, one of them more learningcentred and with more teaching and assessment abilities than the other. We also found another group (around 52% of the professors), teaching-centred and which used traditional methodologies. This group was also subdivided into two, one of them more traditional and with less teaching and assessment abilities than the other. These results demand the attention of the university managers and also the design of rational offers of training that help the professors to acquire the necessary pedagogical competencies.SOMMAIRE: L'objectif fondamental de ce travail était de préciser les modèles d'enseignement des professeurs universitaires pour corroborer s'ils étaient adaptés ou pas aux exigences de l'espace européen d'éducation supérieur (qui préconise un modèle centré sur l'apprentissage avec la maîtrise de compétences pédagogiques). Quatre modèles ont été trouvés. L'un est centré sur l'apprentissage, l'autre sur l'enseignement, avec deux modèles intermédiaires. Un groupe de professeurs (autour de 48% d'un échantillon de 326 professeurs) était encadré dans le modèle centré sur l'apprentissage, de type constructiviste et subdivisé en deux sous-groupes, l'un plus centré sur l'apprentissage et possédant des habilités d'enseignement et d'évaluation plus poussées que l'autre. Un autre groupe devprofesseurs a été trouvé (environ 52% de l'échantillon), centré sur l'enseignement et utilisant des méthodologies traditionnelles. Ce groupe était aussi subdivisé en deux sous-groupes, l'un plus traditionnel et avec moins d'habilités d'enseignement que l'autre. Les dirigeants universitaires devraient tenir compte de ces résultats et l'offre rationnelle de formation des professeurs devrait viser l'acquisition de ces compétences pédagogiques nécessaires.

This paper takes up previous works by the author and reformulates them to argue that there are increasingly clear indications of the adoption of “post-disciplinary” modalities in the institutionalized practices of knowledge production on communication in various regions of the world. Faced with the growing epistemic fragmentation and dispersion of this academic field, and the evident transformations of the sociocultural practices that are its references and subject matters, post-disciplinary research may represent a useful alternative consistent with the very history of the university institutionalization of this specialty, in which contributions from the humanities and social sciences converge, with apparent independence from the different conditions of national higher education systems. Some of the more developed formulations of this perspective and their strategic implications for university practices in the field are analysed.

De senere års uddannelsespolitiske initiativer har belønnet studerende, der er hurtige til at vælge en videregående uddannelse, og som holder fast i den uddannelse, de nu engang har valgt. At vælge uddannelse er imidlertid ledsaget af tvivl, og nyere dansk forskning har vist, at studerende vedvarende forhandler deres position på uddannelsen. I dette studie undersøgte vi, hvor stor en andel af aktive universitetsstuderende, der stadig var i tvivl om deres valg af studie, og vi undersøgte baggrunden for denne tvivl. På baggrund af en kvantitativ analyse af svar fra 4.339 studerende på Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences, Aarhus Universitet, fandt vi, at en tredjedel af de studerende, selv efter optagelse på deres uddannelse, stadig var i tvivl om, hvorvidt de havde valgt det rigtige studie, og at dette gjaldt for førsteårsstuderende såvel som for studerende på femte år. Analysen viste yderligere, at studietvivl var mere udbredt blandt studerende, som havde (i) svært ved at se det interessante og relevante i fagene; (ii) lav tiltro til egne akademisk evner; (iii) opnået lave karakterer ved forudgående eksamener på universitetet. I artiklens perspektivering diskuterer vi, hvorvidt studietvivl må betragtes som et almindeligt og uproblematisk studie- og livsvilkår eller, om studietvivl må antages at være problematisk. Recent reforms of the Danish education system tend to favour those students who are quick to decide what higher education course they want to study and then stick to their decision. However, research has shown that the process of course selection and completion is not always linear and that students continuously negotiate their position in their study programme. In this study we examined how current university students experienced doubt about their choice of programme, and we examined the context surrounding this doubt. Based on a quantitative analysis of answers from 4339 students at the Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences, we found that one third of students, even after enrolment in the university, had doubts about their choice of study programme. This was true for first-year students as well as students in their fifth year. Furthermore, the analysis showed that those students who (i) had difficulties finding interest and relevance in their study programme, (ii) had low confidence in their own academic abilities or (iii) had achieved low marks in previous exams at the university, were the most likely to be uncertain about their choice of course. We discuss whether having doubts about a chosen area of study once the programme has started can be considered a normal and unproblematic process in student development, or whether it should be considered problematic.
