Globally, there is the quest to improve quality education as highlighted by the Sustainable Development Goal 4. One of the quintessential factors that could facilitate the attainment of this global goal is effective and adequate educational process factors. The study specifically sought to assess the state of educational process factors such as teacher use of instructional time, level of parental and community involvement, type of leadership, curriculum coverage among the urban, rural, public, and private junior high schools in the Central Region of Ghana. The descriptive survey design was used to carry out the study. Through stratified sampling technique, 1260 respondents comprising 126 head teachers, and 378 junior high school teachers were engaged in the study. Two sets of questionnaires were designed for the headteachers and teachers. Data gathered were analysed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations as well as chi-square test of association and independent samples t-test. It was found that educational process factors were generally better in urban schools as well as private schools. For rural schools and public schools, the educational process factors were poor, particularly, the percentage of syllabus coverage was low for English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science. It was concluded that deficit in educational process factors posed threat to the quality of education. It was suggested that the Ministry of Education, together with teachers should strive to enhance process variables in schools.

The study sought to find out whether Junior High School teachers in the Sissala East Municipality of Ghana follow the basic prescribed principles in the construction, administration and scoring of classroom achievement tests. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The study employed multistage sampling techniques (purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling procedures) to select a sample of 248 teachers from the Sissala East Municipality. A questionnaire was used for the data collection and its reliability was 0.8. Data were analysed using frequencies, means, and standard deviation. The results showed that generally, Junior High Schools teachers in the Sissala East Municipality adhere to most principles of test construction and test administration but had little knowledge of the principles in the scoring test. It was recommended that more workshops and in-service training should be organized for teachers in Junior High Schools concerning their testing practices (i.e., construction, administration and scoring of tests).

The program for strengthening character education is only carried out in several pilot schools so that there is not much information available to what extent character education has actually been carried out in other schools, especially in non-piloting schools. This study aimed to measure the feasibility of strengthening character education in non-piloting schools. The population in this quantitative descriptive study was teachers at junior high school in Malang. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The subjects involved in this study were six teachers of Junior High Schools 20 of Malang, Junior High Schools 27 of Malang, and Muhammadiyah 1 Junior High School. Data collection used questionnaires and analysed descriptively statistically. The results of the study showed that the three schools have implemented character strengthening programs seen from the ten assessment components i.e. pre-assesment, programme socialization, vision, programme design, class-based implementing, school culture strengthening, social partisipation, core value implementing, and evaluation. These results indicated that character strengthening has become a positive habit but not yet optimal. The results of this study can be used as a basis for identifying appropriate follow-up steps for improving achievement of character strengthening in schools.

Examination of the music opportunities available to students in the junior high schools of the early twentieth century lends historical perspective to current challenges facing middle level music educators. This article describes the specific music offerings at Lincoln Junior High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from the school opening in 1923 to 1940, when financial challenges forced the reorganization of the music program. In many ways, the music curriculum at Lincoln Junior High School in Minneapolis was exemplary of the music experiences found in other junior high schools. The required curriculum was based on the general music model of the elementary school and included music appreciation and a strong emphasis on the development of music reading skills. Extracurricular “clubs” provided performance opportunities for young adolescent musicians. Choruses focused on preparing large-scale productions such as operettas and musicals, while instrumental groups participated in contests and festivals. Performances for school assemblies and civic groups provide evidence of the importance of connections to the community for junior high schools. The formation of the Girls’ Band at Lincoln in 1924 was unusual. In the absence of direct evidence, I postulate possible explanations for the founding of this unique ensemble.
