For agriculture, the most important is the soil’s function as a base and medium for plant growth. The soil health and soil condition are important for plant growth. And the management of soil organic matter is an important part in case of managing soil health and maintaining soil conditions. The experiment was carried out in the field lab (Net House) of Soil, Water and Environment discipline, Khulna University, Bangladesh. Total 21 plastic pots were used to continue the experiment with 7 treatments. For the experiment, the meat bones were collected and used in the experimental pot along with soil in different doses. This research has revealed that meat bones both powdered and composted, has significantly increased (about 20-25%) the growth parameters of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) such as a number of leaves, shoot length, fresh weight, dry weight and moisture content. So, the application of powdered and composted meat bones in soil will contribute in the growth of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica).

Macronutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) are usually found in fertilisers which is essential to plant growth and development. The study reports on the utilization of different fruit peels as an organic fertiliser for the effective growth of water spinach (Ipomoea Aquatica). Each fruit peels of pineapple, banana and mango were collected separately from local fruit vendors. The fruit peels were cleaned, dried, and then grinded into powder individually. The chemical composition of fruit peels powder was analysed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and CHNOS analyser which NPK concentration was determined. Among three analysed fruit peels, results demonstrated that banana peels powder showed the highest concentration of K and N, which consists of 26557.86 mg/L and 1.61%, respectively. Besides that, electrical conductivitymeasurement and water absorption capacity of fruit peels powder was studied. Plants were grown under vary amount of fruit peels powder treatments (mango, banana, and pineapple peels application), as well as control treatments (no fertiliser application). Plant height and number of leaves per plantwere analysed to investigate the effect of fruit peels powder treatment on plant growth. The application of 3 g pineapple peels powder gave the better performances in all water spinach growth parameters with mean maximum plant height of 20.83±3.01cm, number of leaves per plant of 9 was recorded. Hence, it can be concluded that 3 g pineapple peels powder can efficiently improve the utilization efficiency of fertilizers in agricultural production.

SummaryEnhancement of the resistance level in plants by rhizobacteria has been proven in several pathosystems. This study investigated the ability of four rhizobacteria strains (Pseudomonas putida BTP1 and Bacillus subtilis Bs2500, Bs2504 and Bs2508) to promote the growth in three barley genotypes and protect them against Cochliobolus sativus. Our results demonstrated that all tested rhizobacteria strains had a protective effect on barley genotypes Arabi Abiad, Banteng and WI2291. However, P. putida BTP1 and B. subtilis Bs2508 strains were the most effective as they reduced disease incidence by 53 and 38% (mean effect), respectively. On the other hand, there were significant differences among the rhizobacteria-treated genotypes on plant growth parameters, such as wet weight, dry weight, plant height and number of leaves. Pseudomonas putida BTP1 strain was the most effective as it significantly increased plant growth by 15-32%. In addition, the susceptible genotypes Arabi Abiad and WI2291 were the most responsive to rhizobacteria. This means that these genotypes have a high potential for increase of their resistance against the pathogen and enhancement of plant growth after the application of rhizobacteria. Consequently, barley seed treatment with the tested rhizobacteria could be considered as an effective biocontrol method against C. sativus.

Abstract Rice plants (Oryza sativa) are a significant food crop. Tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum) can be beneficial and affect growth due to allelochemical content. The srudy aims to determine the effect of tobacco extract (N. tabacum) on the growth and yield of rice (O. sativa) Inpari-32 variety. The study method used the RBD as an experimental design. Three treatments with different concentrations of tobacco extract and one control with three replications. Growth variables were observed: growth rate, plant height, number of tillers, number of leaves, shoot and root dry weight, flowering age, and phytohormones. Observations of the harvest stage include the weight of stover, number of panicle seeds, the total number of tillers, weight of 1000 seeds, the ratio of the weight of filled grain, and productivity (tons/ha). The results showed that although not significant, tobacco extract treatment increased the number of tillers and leaves, the content of phytohormon IAA in the vegetative phase, the content of GA3 in the generative phase, shoot-root ratio, number of tillers, and accelerated flowering age. The implication of tobacco extract positively affects the plant growth variable and accelerated flowering age of rice variety (O. sativa) Inpari 32.

Soil salinity is an important abiotic factor that adversely affects plant growth. In present study, response of rose (Rosa damascena) was evaluated to various NaCl salinity levels developed by irrigating saline water. Plants were irrigated with different salinities, viz. 0 (control), 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mM NaCl. After treatments application, plants were sampled, and relative growth rate (RGR) was calculated. Growth rates were significantly reduced as recorded for flower diameter, number of leaves per plant, number of shoots per plant, number of flowers per plant, number of petals per flower, fresh and dry weight of flower and petals. Results depicted that plant growth and yield significantly reduced with increase in salt concentration particularly when >150 mM NaCl was applied. Therefore, it is suggested that Rosa damascena may be best grown when salinity level of ≤150 mM and should not be grown in areas where salt concentrations are greater than 150 mM.

The research on plant growth estimation of sugarcane plants is a key factor ongoing now days. The problem of plant growth and yield estimation of sugarcane plants is well studied. There are number of solutions recommended by different researchers, still they suffer with poor accuracy. Existing methods measure the plant growth according to the rainfall and temperature which introduces poor performance. To improve the performance, an efficient Climate Hydro Image Soil Model (CHISM) is presented. The model considers various properties namely climate conditions like temperature, humidity and hydrologic features namely rainfall, water poured and soil conditions towards plant growth. The method uses the satellite images in obtaining the soil condition, by applying image processing technique, the soil condition are obtained. Remaining features are obtained through the regional data set provided by agriculture sector. Using all these features, the method estimates various influence measure on different features considered. The method computes rainfall influence measure (RIM), water influence measure (WIM), temperature influence measure (TIM), humidity influence measure (HIM), and soil influence measure (SIM). Using all these measure, the model computes the plant growth rate (PGR) and Yield Rate (YR) in different time window. According to the measures estimated, the model performs water regulation. The method improves the performance of plant growth estimation and crop yield.

Plant growth and the expression of two transporter genes; PoHKT1 and PoVHA transcripts in root and shoot tissues were studied under salt stress of three Portulaca oleracea s.l. taxa. The study showed no significant differences in ratios between root lengths in saline and non-saline treatments of the three taxa, which was correlated with a clear down-regulation of the PoHKT1 transcripts in the root after 150mM NaCl. All measured growth parameters except root length increased in P. oleraceae, decreased in P. granulatostellulata and remain unchanged after 100mM NaCl in P. nitida compared to control under saline conditions. The result was consistent with the type of taxon which had significant effect on the shoot length, number of leaves and dry weight (P< 0.05). All measured growth parameters except root length showed a significant negative correlation with the shoot fold change of PoHKT1 transcripts (r = -0.607, -0.693 and -0.657 respectively). The regulation of PoVHA in root and shoot tissues in the three taxa are significantly different. Under salt stress, both decreased uptake of Na+ into the cytosol by decreasing the expression of PoHKT1 and increased vascular compartmentalization ability of Na+ by inducing the expression of PoVHA seem to work more efficiently in P. oleraceae and P. nitida than in P. granulato-stellulata.

An experiment was conducted at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal during March-July 2008 to explore the impact of ambient ozone on crop growth and yield. Mungbean cultivar "Pratikshya" was used as a test crop for the study. Mungbean plants were planted in 40 pots and 50% of the plants (i.e. plants in 20 pots) were treated with ethylenediurea (EDU) from 13 DAS to crop maturity at 10 days intervals. The ambient ozone level of the site was measured with passive samplers. The ozone level ranged from 29.3 to 39.1 ppb at the experimentation site during the cropping period. It was found that the ambient ozone at the site caused significant effects on plant growth and yield. The observed ambient ozone was found to reduce the growth parameters like plant height, per plant number of leaves, and number of branches by 10%, 27.74%, and 10.88%, respectively at 70 DAS while it reduced per plant number of seeds (13.17%), seed dry weights (19.67%), test weight (g/1000 seeds), (10.28%), total above-ground biomass (16.60%), harvest index (6.25%), and shelling percentage (5.07%) of controlled over EDU treated plants (ozone protected). The slope of the gutter is one of the factors that affect plant growth and yield. This tilt affects the dissolved oxygen content in the hydroponic nutrient flow. Dissolved oxygen is one of the factors that can affect plant growth and yield. This study aims to determine the effect of guttering on the growth and yield of pakcoy plants. The research was conducted in Salatiga, Central Java from March to May 2019 in a greenhouse. Combination treatment of Pakcoy variety with gutter slopes. Each was repeated four times to obtain 24 experimental trials. This study used a randomized block design. The parameters observed were dissolved oxygen, number of leaves, plant height, shoot diameter, plant fresh weight, upper fresh weight, lower fresh weight, upper dry weight, and lower dry weight. Data analysis using variance. The DMRT test was used to see the distance between treatments with a 95% confidence interval. Based on the research results, the combination of varieties and the slope of the gutter had a significant effect on the number of leaves, crown diameter, and plant fresh weight. The combination of green pakcoy varieties with a 12% gutter slope gave the best results including plant height 25.32 cm, number of leaves 18.83, crown diameter 33.36 cm and fresh weight of 161.4 g plant-1. Keywords: NFT, varieties, slope gutters, dissolved oxygen

Abstrak : Pemupukan anorganik pada sistem budidaya pertanian menimbulkan beberapa masalah, antara lain biaya produksi meningkat, pendapatan petani menurun, tanah menjadi keras dan tidak subur, serta mencemari lingkungan. Karena itu, perlu ada upaya untuk menemukan sumber bahan baku pupuk yang mudah didapat, murah dn ramah lingkungan. Beberapa peneliti sebelumnya melaporkan bahwa rumput laut mengandung fitohormon dan elemen essensial yang dapat merangsang pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman. Artikel ini melaporkan pengaruh ekstrak cair dan padat Sargassum aquifolium terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman mentimun. Ekstrak cair dan padat alga tersebut diperoleh dengan metode Godlewska et al., 2016. Ekstrak cair (10%) disemprotkan satu kali seminggu selama pertumbuhan vegetatif. Ekstrak padat (5%) diberikan pada media tanah saat tanam. Ekstrak cair secara signifikan mempengaruhi sebagian besar parameter pertumbuhan (tinggi tanaman, jumlah cabang dan berat kering tunas) dan pertumbuhan generatif (jumlah dan berat buah per tanaman), namun ekstrak cair tersebut tidak secara signifikan mempengaruhi berat kering akar. Fenomena serupa juga ditemukan pada pengaruh ekstrak padat terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman mentimun. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan indikasi bahwa ekstrak cair yang dilaporkan mengandung fitohormon, dan ekstrak padat yang mengandung elemen essensial dapat dikembangkan sebagai “biostimulan” dan “biofertlizer” organik yang dapat memacu pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman.Kata kunci : ekstrak cair, ekstrak padat, Sargassum quifolium, pertumbuhan, hasil, tanaman mentimun.Abstract : Aplication of inorganic fertilizer in agriculture cultivation system causes some disadventages, such as increase cost production, reduce farmer’s income and soil fertility, and hqrm our environment. Therefore, it is needed to find out raw materials for fertilizer which easy to obtain, cheap and adaptive to our environment. Previous researchres reported that seaweed contained plant growth hormones and essential elements stimuliting growth and yield of plants. This article reports effect of liquid and solid extracts of Sargassum aquifolium on growth and yield of cucumber plants. Liquid and solid extracts were obtained according to modified Godlewska method (2016). Liquid extract (10%) was sprayed once a week during vegetative growth. Moreover, solid extract (5%) was applied in plant media. Liquid extract influenced significantly most growth parameters, such as plant height, branch number, shoot dry weight and yield parameters like fruit number and fruit weight per plant, but liquid extract did not significantly affect root dry weight. Similar phenomena was also found on the effect of solid extract on growth and yield of cucumber plants. The results suggest that liquid and solid extracts containg plant growth hormones and essential element respectively, could be developed as organic biostimulant and biofertilizer inducing growth and plant production.Keywords : liquid extract, solid extract, Sargassum quifolium, growth, yield, cucumber plants.

The study compares the growth, yield, and proximate composition of Amaranthus hybridus, Amaranthus cruentus, and Amaranthus deflexus, grown with poultry manure and NPK in relation to the unfertilized soil of Ilorin, Nigeria. Viable seeds of the Amaranths raised in nursery for two weeks were transplanted (one plant per pot) into unfertilized soil (control) and soils fertilized with either NPK or poultry manure (PM) at 30 Kg ha−1 rate arranged in randomized complete block design with four replicates. Data were collected on plant height, stem girth, number of leaves, leaf area, and number of branches from 1 week after transplanting (1 WAT). Fresh weight, dry weight, and proximate composition were determined at 6 WAT. Except for the length, breadth, and number of leaves, the order of growth parameters and yield in the three Amaranthus species was NPK > PM > control. NPK grown Amaranthus species had the highest protein while PM-grown vegetables had the highest ash content. Crude fibre in A. cruentus grown with PM was significantly higher than NPK and the control. The NPK treatment of A. hybridus and A. deflexus had the highest crude fibre content. NPK and PM favoured growth and yield of the Amaranthus species but influenced proximate composition differently.
