Objective. To determine the effect of short-term creatine supplementation plus a protein-carbohydrate formula on high-intensity exercise performance and recovery. Design. A repeated-measures, experimental study, employing a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, group comparison design was used. Interventions. Thirty active but not sprint-trained male subjects were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups: creatine plus protein-carbohydrate formula (CRF); creatine only (CRE); and control (CON). All groups were exposed to the same high-intensity sprint exercise programme, 3 times per week for 30 days. Main outcome measures. Dependant variables included total repeat sprint distance, fatigue index, perceived muscle pain, and blood lactate, urea, creatine kinase, and cortisol concentrations. Results. All groups significantly (p ≤ 0.05) increased total sprint distance and decreased blood urea concentrations. There were no significant changes in blood lactate or cortisol concentrations in any group. CRF showed significant decreases (p ≤ 0.05) in fatigue index, muscle pain, and creatine kinase concentration. However, no significant differences were found between groups. Conclusion. Short-term creatine supplementation with or without protein-carbohydrate supplementation does not appear to enhance performance or recovery significantly over high-intensity exercise training alone in non-sprint-trained individuals. A longer trial period may be required to evaluate effect on recovery more conclusively. In addition, the prime importance of physical conditioning, and in particular task-specific exercise training, in stimulating performance and recovery adaptations is highlighted. AbstractInspired by the effectiveness of low-intensity ultrasound on tissue regeneration, we investigated the potential effect of short-term high-intensity ultrasound treatment for acceleration of wound healing in an in vitro wound model and dermal equivalent, both comprising human dermal fibroblasts. Short-term ultrasound of various amplitudes significantly increased the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts and subsequently increased the production of the extracellular matrix components fibronectin and collagen type I, both of which are important for wound healing and are secreted by fibroblasts. In addition, ultrasound treatment increased the contraction of a fibroblast-embedded three-dimensional collagen matrix, and the effect was synergistically increased in the presence of TGF-β. RNA-sequencing and bioinformatics analyses revealed changes in gene expression and p38 and ERK1/2 MAPK pathway activation in the ultrasound-stimulated fibroblasts. Our findings suggest that ultrasound as a mechanical stimulus can activate human dermal fibroblasts. Therefore, the activation of fibroblasts using ultrasound may improve the healing of various types of wounds and increase skin regeneration.

To ascertain whether costal diaphragm engages in ammonia and lactate production (like limb muscles) during high-intensity short-term exercise, experiments were carried out on six healthy trained ponies in which phrenic venous catheters had been implanted 5-9 days earlier. Simultaneous anaerobically obtained blood samples from abdominal aorta and the phrenic vein at rest and during 4 min of exertion at 32 km/h and at a 7% grade were analyzed for blood-gas variables as well as lactate and ammonia concentrations using standard procedures. At rest, heart rate was 47 +/- 4 beats/min and the diaphragmatic O2 extraction was 26.5%. With exercise, heart rate rose to 218 +/- 6 beats/min, marked acidosis and hyperventilation occurred, and the diaphragmatic O2 extraction increased threefold (80.9%). Such exercise is known to dramatically increase the work of breathing as respiratory frequency and change in pleural pressure approach 138 +/- 4 breaths/min and 30 +/- 3 cmH2O, respectively. Despite the fact that phrenic-venous O2 tension of exercised ponies decreased to 15.5 +/- 0.6 Torr, the phrenic-venous lactate and ammonia concentrations did not exceed corresponding arterial values. These data thus revealed that the diaphragm is uniquely unlike limb muscles, which at high workloads readily engage in net ammonia and lactate production, and that the diaphragmatic energy needs during high-intensity short-term exercise are primarily met by aerobic metabolism.

This study was to determine the effects of five-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, blood glucose, and relevant systemic hormones when compared to moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) in overweight and obese young women.Methods. Eighteen subjects completed 20 sessions of HIIT or MICT for five weeks. HIIT involved 60 × 8 s cycling at ~90% of peak oxygen consumption (V˙O2peak) interspersed with 12 s recovery, whereas MICT involved 40-minute continuous cycling at 65% ofV˙O2peak.V˙O2peak, body composition, blood glucose, and fasting serum hormones, including leptin, growth hormone, testosterone, cortisol, and fibroblast growth factor 21, were measured before and after training.Results. Both exercise groups achieved significant improvements inV˙O2peak(+7.9% in HIIT versus +11.7% in MICT) and peak power output (+13.8% in HIIT versus +21.9% in MICT) despite no training effects on body composition or the relevant systemic hormones. Blood glucose tended to be decreased after the intervention (p=0.062). The rating of perceived exertion in MICT was higher than that in HIIT (p=0.042).Conclusion. Compared with MICT, short-term HIIT is more time-efficient and is perceived as being easier for improving cardiorespiratory fitness and fasting blood glucose for overweight and obese young women.

Breast cancer is the most frequent and socially signifi cant malignant tumor disease of the female popula on of the Russian Federa on. At present, for the treatment of this pathology, the methods of the organ-preserving surgical manual allowing to achieve the maximum cosme c eff ect along with the observance of the principles of cancer safety are ge  ng more and more developed,. In recent decades, researchers from diff erent countries demonstrate the feasibility and technical safety of various mini-invasive methods of thermal abla on of early stages of breast cancer, characterized by rela ve simplicity of implementa on, excellent cosme c results, short-term rehabilita on of pa ents. These include hyperthermic techniques (radiofrequency, microwave, laser abla on) and hypothermic method (cryoabla on). Each technique has unique characteris cs of impact on the tumor and is performed under the control of ultrasound, computer tomography or magne c resonance imaging. The technical success of these abla on techniques is achieved in 93–98% of cases. Complete tumor necrosis a er radiofrequency abla on is observed in 76–100% of pa ents with breast cancer, laser abla on – in 13–76%, microwave abla on – in 0–8%, cryoabla on – in 36–83%. The frequency of development of specifi c complica ons of local thermal destruc on is 4–13%. To date, there is only one method of noninvasive extracorporeal thermal abla on of tumors of diff erent localiza on – high-intensity focused ultrasound therapy, the eff ec veness and safety of which as a method of local destruc on of benign and malignant tumors of the breast demonstrated by many authors. Like all methods of thermal abla on, high-intensity focused ultrasound therapy has its limita ons, complica ons and disadvantages. This ar cle presents a literary review that highlights the possibili es of this method of local destruc on in pa ents with malignant tumors of the breast.
