Abiotic stresses soil salinity is one of the major restricting the use of land for agriculture because it limits the crop growth and development. In these stressful conditions, improving productivity is important challenge because salinity has different effects on crop growth and developmental stages in different crops. Exogenous application of proline, humic acid and ascorbic acid has improved salt stress tolerance in various plant species. An experiment was conducted in farmer’s field at Raparla village, Battiprolu mandal during spring season, 2018 and 2019 to evaluate the effect of exogenous application of organics for alleviating salt stress on sorghum crop. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with five treatments which replicated four times. Five treatments in this study were applied as follows: (T1) control i.e farmer’s practice; (T2) proline application at 0.6 g/L; (T3) ascorbic acid application at 0.2 g/L; (T4) humic acid application at 2 g/L; (T5) Combination of T1, T2, T3 and T4. The Results showed that all treatments (T2, T3 T4 and T5) effected on the yield characteristic and yield (kg/ha). The highest yield attributes and yield of sorghum crop (3460 and 3240 kg/ha) was significantly recorded by T5 (the combined application of proline + ascorbic acid + humic acid) followed by T2 (alone proline application).

A pot experiment was conducted at the net house of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period of November, 2017 to March, 2018 to optimize different levels of Zn and B for better growth and yield attributes of tomato (cv. Ruma VF). The experiment included two factors [factor- A viz., control (Zn0 ), Zn @ 4.0 kg ha-1 (Zn4),  Zn @ 6.0 kg ha-1 (Zn6) and Zn @ 8.0 kg ha-1 (Zn8) and factor B viz., control (B0), B @ 2.0 kg ha-1 (B2) and B @ 3.0 kg ha-1 (B3)], which was laid out in a completely randomized block design with 4 replications, thus total number of pots were 48. Zinc sulphate and boric acid were applied as the source of Zn and B that were applied during pot preparation along with recommended doses of N, P, K and S. The study revealed that application of different doses of Zn increased number of flower clusters plant-1 at 80 days after transplanting, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of fruits plant-1 and yield of tomato up to 4.0 kg ha-1. Similarly, application of B @ 2.0 kg ha-1 produced the highest number of flower clusters plant-1, fruit length and fruit diameter. On the other hand, the highest number of fruits plant-1 and yield of tomato were obtained by the application of B @ 3.0 kg ha-1 which was statistically similar to the application of B @ 2.0 kg ha-1. Combined application of Zn and B, @ 4.0 and 2.0 kg ha-1, respectively appeared as the best practice for better growth and yield of tomato, and therefore it may be recommended to boost up tomato productivity.

The experiment comprising of four levels of phosphorus, i.e., 0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1 and three levels of sulphur, i.e., 0, 15 and 30 kg ha-1, was conducted during summer of 2015-16 to investigate the interaction effect of phosphorus and sulphur application on nutrients uptake and yield of black gram cv. Uttara. The treatments were laid in randomized block design (Factorial) with three replications. The results revealed utmost concentration and uptake of phosphorus in seed (0.376% and 3.59 kg ha-1) and stover (0.266% and 6.38 kg ha-1) and sulphur in seed (0.397% and 3.79 kg ha-1) and stover (0.134% and 3.21 kg ha-1) with combined application of phosphorus 60 kg and sulphur 30 kg ha-1, indicating synergistic effect of phosphorus and sulphur on nutrient uptake, respectively. The results also revealed that combined application of phosphorus and sulphur showed synergistic effect on seed and stover yield of black gram with increasing levels of phosphorus and sulphur up to highest level as both the nutrients mutually help absorption and utilization by black gram probably due to balanced nutrition. The seed and stover yield were 955.50 and 2398.30 kg ha-1 with combined application of phosphorus 60 kg and sulphur 30 kg ha-1. The yield attributes of black gram viz., plant height, number of pods plant-1 and 100 seeds weight also increased significantly with increasing levels of phosphorus and sulphur up to highest level and the optimum values were recorded with combined application of phosphorus 60 kg and sulphur 30 kg ha-1. However, non-significant response of phosphorus and sulphur application has been observed in case of plant population (m-2).

A field experiment was carried out in randomized block design, consists of seven treatments with three replications at Agricultural Research Farm, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab during kharif season of year 2016. The combined application of FYM, vermicompost and chemical fertilizers (50% Recommended dose of NPK + 25% FYM + 25% Vermicompost) gives significantly higher results in growth parameters (plant height 238.47 cm, stem girth 12.3 cm, number of green leaves 15.33 and number of internodes 18.10) and yield attributes (1.33 cobs per plant, cob length 15.72 cm and 459 grains per cob) as well as yield (grain yield 5400 kg ha-1) as compared to rest of treatments as well as control.

The field experiment was carried out during rabi season of 2018-2019 at Research farm, Raja Balwant Singh College, Bichpuri Agra,(U.P) to study the effect of different concentrations of zinc and boron as foliar spray on the vegetative growth and yield of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var.bortrytis). Nine treatments with three replications were evaluated in randomized block design. The results revealed that the maximum plant height (44.90 cm), diameter of stem (1.68cm), length (38.90 cm) and width (24.55 cm) of longest leaf were recorded with the foliar spray of 0.50% Zn + 0.2% boron solution .The maximum values of spread of plant along the row(53.51cm)and across the row (55.25 cm) and fully opened leaves per plant (12.94) were recorded with the foliar spray of 0.25% Zn +0.2% boron solution. The yield of cauliflower curd was recorded maximum (343.46 q ha-1) with foliar application of Zn (0.50%) + boron (0.2%). The increase in yield with this treatment was 23.9 % higher than obtained with control (277.13 q ha-1).The lower values of growth and yield attributes were recorded under control .In general combined application of zinc and boron was found significantly superior over their alone application

ABSTRACT The salinity has complex effects on the physiological, nutritional and hormonal interactions of plants. This study aimed to evaluate the mitigating action of exogenous application of different types and concentrations of phytohormones on Carica papaya under salt stress. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse, using a randomized block design with treatments formed from a 2 x 3 x 5 factorial scheme, relative to two concentrations of salts in the irrigation water (0.6 and 2.4 dS m-1), three types of phytohormones [Auxin = indole-3-acetic acid; Cytokinin = CPPU (N-(2-chloro-pyridyl)-N-phenylurea) and Gibberellin = gibberellic acid(AG3)], and five concentrations of the phytohormone (0, 12.5, 25.0, 37.5 and 50.0 µM L-1), with three repetitions, totaling 90 plots, and the experimental unit consisted of six plants. C. papaya cv. ‘Sunrise Solo’ was grown on polyethylene trays of 162 cells, with capacity for 50 mL. The plants were evaluated for survival percentage and phytomass accumulation until 25 days after sowing. Increase in irrigation water salinity has deleterious effects on C. papaya plants regardless of the application of phytohormones. Exogenous application of gibberellin has a positive effect in mitigating salt stress on C. papaya plants, greater than the effects of auxins and cytokinins. Exogenous application of gibberellin and auxin at concentration of 37.5 µM L-1 mitigates the effects of salinity on C. papaya plants. Exogenous application of cytokinin at concentrations of 12.5 to 50.0 µM L-1 is not viable for C. papaya plants.

An on-farm trial was established at Saran district of Bihar, aiming to assess the different combinations of micro and secondary nutrients on yield and economic profitability of mustard (var. Rajendra suphalam). The experiment comprised three treatments i.e., T1: RD-S+Zn (Farmer practices), T2: RD-S+B and T3: RD-S+B+Zn and seven replications performed under a completely randomized block design during 2018-19. Results of the experiment revealed that combined application of sulphur, boron and zinc  significantly improved the number of seeds per siliqua: 37.2%, stover yield: 12.3% & seed yield: 33.3% over farmers practice (T1: RD-S+Zn). The highest seed yield and gross return in treatment T3: RD-S+B+Zn was well reflected in  the maximum net return (Rs. 40954.0 ha-1) and benefit-cost ratio (2.29). In conclusion, the combined application of sulphur, boron and zinc was performed better for mustard cultivation in the middle Indo-Gangetic plains of Bihar.

Effect of nitrogen and bio-fertilizer on growth and productivity of hybrid rice (cv. PHB 71) was assessed during dry seasons of 2017 and 2018 at Research Farm of BCKV under new alluvial zone of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 12 treatment combinations having 4 levels of N and 3 types of bio-fertilizer replicated thrice. Application at 180 kg N/ha produced tallest plants at 90 DAT with maximum LAI (60 DAT), DMA (90 DAT), tillers/hill (90 DAT) and CGR (30-60 & 60-90 DAT). The same N rate resulted in highest panicles/m2, panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains/panicle and 1000-grain weight. A decrease in N dose from 180 to 150 kg/ha caused reduction in all those yield components; however, the variation was non-significant except for number of panicles/m2. Maximum grain yield, straw yield and harvest index was also achieved with 180 kg N/ha accounting 120.1, 34.9 and 32.8% more than the values obtained with zero-N; however, it was statistically at par with the yields and HI obtained with 150 kg N/ha. The Azospirillum application increased all the growth parameters, yield components and yield of hybrid rice over other tested bio-fertilizers (Azospirillum > PSB > K mobilizer), accounting 5.9 and 8.8% more than the yields obtained with PSB and K mobilizer. The interaction of N and bio-fertilizer exerted significant effect on growth attributes but failed to record any significant variations in yield components and yield of hybrid rice. The maximum economic benefit was achieved with combined application of 180 kg N/ha and Azospirillum.

Efforts to increase production potential can be carried out by extensification in a less productive saline land. Salinity is a major problem in the growth of most plants. Azolla is a plant that is sensitive to salinity, but if it is applied well, it can grow optimally at high salinity levels. The purpose of this study is to obtain an azolla application technique that is effective in increasing the adaptation of rice plants to NaCl saline soil conditions. The experimental design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was the azolla application technique consisted of 3 levels: fresh azolla composted, fresh azolla immersed, and fresh azolla as a ground cover. The second factor was the levels of NaCl salt stress consisted of 4 levels: control DHL 0, 2, 4, and 8 dS m-1. The adaptation ability of rice plants based on variable plants height growth rate, number of tillers, strove dry weight, root dry weight, stomata density, leaf chlorophyll (SPAD), age of flowering, number of paddy grain, and harvest index. The results showed how to test content up to 2 dS m-1 which increased rice growth especially the application of azolla composted. Increasing stress to 4 and 8 dS m-1showed bad effects on vegetative, physiology, and yields of rice components. The stronger of salt stress the higher all plants growth variables except the age of flowering that actually showed the acceleration of flowering. Application of composted azolla can increase the root dry weight and azolla as a ground cover can increase the numbers of paddy grains.   Keywords: azolla, NaCl, rice, stress

Background: Blackgram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] is one of the most important cultivated legume crops with high nutritive value and agricultural importance. The productivity of blackgram is not adequate to meet the domestic demand of the growing Indian population. Consequently, there is an urgent need for enhancement of productivity through proper agronomic practices. With this background, a research experiment was conducted in a farmer’s field at Pudhupalayam, Coimbatore to investigate the effect of foliar application of PPFM, plant growth regulating compounds and nutrients on growth, yield attributes, yield and economics of irrigated blackgram. Methods: A field experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications during 2019 (kharif and rabi) season. The treatments include 100% recommended dose of NPK along with foliar application of diammonium phosphate (DAP), brassinolide (Br), salicylic acid (SA) and pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFM) with different concentration (1%, 2%, 1 ppm, 2 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, respectively) in addition to control. PPFM and PGRs were sprayed at 30 and 45 days after the sowing of blackgram. Result: The experiment results of the two seasons study revealed that the application of 100% RDF + PPFM @ 2% recorded higher growth characters viz., plant height (cm), number of branches plant-1, leaf area index and yield attributes viz., number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, pod weight (g), pod height (cm), 100 seed weight (g) and yield viz., grain yield (kg/ha), straw yield (kg/ha) and harvest index (%). As well as the same treatment recorded higher net return and B:C ratio. Correlation and regression analysis also indicated that the yield attributes had a positive impact on the grain yield with a magnitude of 1.91 and 1.67, respectively. Therefore, application of 100% RDF+2% PPFM spray can be recommended as the best technology to improve the yield and economics of blackgram.

Background: Maize followed by summer pulses is the emerging cropping system in many places in India. Herbicides are the efficient tools for checking weed infestation and their usage is increasing throughout the globe due to increased labour cost and quick weed control. Some herbicides do not degrade quickly and may remain in the soil for weeks, months or years after application and may inhibit the growth of succeeding crops. Methods: Field experiment was conducted in a randomized block design (RBD) during rabi and summer seasons of 2017-18 and 2018-19 to know the residual effect of different herbicides applied in maize on succeeding greengram. Result: The present study revealed that lower density and dry weight of total weeds and higher yield attributes and yield was recorded with the practice of adopting two hand weedings at 15 and 30 DAS, which was however, at par with atrazine 1.0 kg ha-1 as PE fb one HW at 30 DAS, atrazine 1.0 kg ha-1 as PE fb topramezone 30 g ha-1 as PoE and atrazine 1.0 kg ha-1 as PE fb tembotrione 120 g ha-1 as PoE, without any significant disparity among them. Herbicides applied in maize did not alter statistically the enzyme activity and microbial count in the soil at harvest of succeeding greeengram.
