Tomato a highly nutritious and income relevance crop. The optimum productivity is constrained by a number of factors such as soil fertility management. A field experiment was conducted at Teaching and Research Farm, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria between December 2012 to April 2013 (irrigated) and March – August 2013 (rainfed) to investigate the effect manuring on the growth and yield of tomato varieties. Four manuring sources (Organic, Organo-mineral, Urea and No fertilizer) and four tomato varieties (Beske, Ibadan local, Roma and UC) laid out as a randomized complete block design in a factorial arrangement and replicated three times. Results showed that manuring influenced on set of flowering in tomato, organic fertilizer prolonged day to anthesis (22.72 day) closely followed by organomineral (22.49 days) while control (no fertilizer) was earliest (20.88 days). Beske significantly showed earliness to flowering, Ibadan local and Roma were delayed but had similar flowering dates (P≤ 0.05). The varieties had distinct fruit yield responses to fertilizer application, fruit produced were in order of Beske, Ibadan local and UC (721.9;626.4) g;(683.6; 696.2) g; (550.0; 463.6) g (384.4; 431.5) g for rainfed and irrigation respectively. Varietal effect was significant on fruit yields for irrigated, Beske recorded heaviest fruit yield (6.03g) followed by Ibadan local (4.72), Roma (2.6) and UC (2.14). Harvested fruit among the varieties in both seasons were (3978.5t/ha;3484.9t/ha;1229.8t/ha and 985.2 t/ha) and (3947.2t/ha; 3452.8t/ha; 1197.8t/ha; 953.2t/ha) for Beske, Ibadan local, Roma and UC respectively. Fertilizer application were significant for both season on harvested fruits weight in magnitude order of Organomineral, organic fertilizer urea and control (3535.9;3503.9t/ha),organic fertilizer (2935.2;2903.2t/ha), Urea (2078.8;2047.4t/ha) and control (1128.0;1096.5t/ha). Beske and Ibadan local varieties performed better in the rainforest zone of Nigeria. Organic fertilizer sources complimented with mineral fertilizer timely applied with good agronomic managements are measures to enhance growth and yield performance of tomato.

A field trial was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria between May and July in both 2015 and 2016 to evaluate growth and yield responses of cucumber (Cucumis sativum L.) to different nitrogen levels of goat manure. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design involving five treatments and replicated three times. The treatments were cured goat manure applied at levels of 0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 kg N ha-1. Growth parameters were collected on vine length (cm), vine girth (cm), number of branches, number of leaves and leaf area index (LAI). Yield parameters assessed were fruit length (cm), fruit girth (cm), number of fruits per plant and fruit yield (t ha-1). Goat manure application significantly (P < 0.05) influenced growth parameters positively, which led to the enhancement of the fruit yield. Goat manure application levels of 200 (20.85 t ha-1), 300 (20.85 t ha-1) and 400 (26.21 t ha-1) kg N ha-1 had similar (P > 0.05) fruit yield, but significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those of 0 (12.34 t ha-1) and 10 (16.96 t ha-1) kg N ha-1. It thus recommended that goat manure at 20 kg N ha-1 is more appropriate for cucumber production in the humid ultisols environment.

Inoculating groundnut and cowpea with highly effective and competitive rhizobial strain improves nodulation. A field experiment was carried out at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, University for Development Studies, Nyankpala, to evaluate the growth and yield responses of cowpea and groundnut to five rhizobial inoculant strains in the Guinea Savanna zone. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with eight (8) treatments replicated four (4) times. The treatments included five rhizobial inoculant strains (NC 92, KNUST 1002, KNUST 1003, KNUST 1006, and BR 3267), two N fertilizer levels (20 kg·N/ha and 40 kg·N/ha), and a control. The results showed that rhizobial inoculation and N fertilizer application increased nodulation, biomass yield, pod number, pod weight, hundred seed weight, nodule dry weight, and pod yield of groundnut compared with the control. Rhizobial inoculation averagely increased the nodulation and yield by 63 and 67%, respectively, compared with the control. Mineral N fertilizer (20 kg N/ha) on average increased the nodulation and yield by 24 and 25%, respectively, compared with the control plots. It can be recommended from this study that, in the absence of highly competitive rhizobial strains such as KNUST 1006 and NC 92 as biofertilizers for increasing the nodulation and yield of cowpea and groundnut, 20 kg·N/ha can be used for the purpose. Further research is recommended using these rhizobial strains in combination with lower rates of N fertilizers (<20 kg·ha−1).

Production of agricultural wastes is increasing while soils are progressively losing organic matter due to intensive cultivation and climatic conditions. This makes the recycling of organic wastes a useful alternative to incineration, landfill or rubbish dumps. The effects of two agro- wastes and mineral fertilizer on growth and yield of leaf amaranth were assessed in a pot experiment at the Teaching and Research Farm, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. Treatments consisted of poultry manure (PM) and palm oil mill effluent (POME) each applied at 8 and 16MT/ha while NPK 15-15-15 was applied at 150, 200kgha-1 and no fertilizer as control. Seeds of amaranthus caudatus variety were sown in plastic pot (50x20x40cm) containing 20kg top soil. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design replicated three times. Data were taken on plant height, stem girth, number of leaves plant-1, leaf area, root length, fresh weight, dry weight, edible yield and above ground plant weight at 6 weeks after planting. The results revealed that the agrowastes significantly (p<0.05) resulted in better performance of leaf amaranth. Application of 16MT/ha PM gave the highest fresh and edible weight of 211.23 and 98.80g respectively. POME also performed better than NPK fertilizer in some of the parameters measured. This indicated that PM and POME could serves as an alternative sources of nutrient to mineral fertilizer for leaf amaranth and also a sustainable fertility management strategy for crop production. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and yield of maize to compost, organomineral fertilizer, and mineral fertilizer at Iyaganku and Moniya farm sites in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Treatments consisted of Organomineral fertilizer (A), Compost (B), Fresh compost (C), Mineral fertilizer (D = N.P.K. 15:15:15), and Control (E = no fertilizer). Experimental design was randomized complete block design replicated four times. Compost treatments (45 kgNha-1) were applied at one week before sowing while N.P.K. 15:15:15 fertilizer (300 Kg N ha-1) was applied two weeks after sowing. The growth and yield data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of GENSTAT Discovery software. Significant means were compared using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at p = 0.05. The results of the analysis revealed no significant difference in the number of leaves and stem girth at 8 weeks after sowing (WAS) at Iyaganku. Tallest maize plants were recorded from plots treated with A and B. Also, treatments showed no significant difference in the dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest. At Moniya, plots treated with A produced high number of leaves while lowest number of leaves were recorded from control plots and plots treated with B, C, and D. Similarly, no significant difference was observed in stem girth, plant height, dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest between control plots, and plots treated with C, and D. Larger stem girths, tallest plants, dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest were observed in plots treated with A and B. The results from Moniya farm site suggest that organomineral fertilizer and compost have the potential to enhance the growth and yield of maize in studied location.

A field study was carried out at the Kwara State University Teaching and Research Farm, Malete, to evaluate the response of vegetative growth and immature fruit yield of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) to three fertilizer types and three times of application. The fertilizer types, used at the rate of 60 kgN/ha, were Kwasu organic-based fertilizer type 2 (KOBF-2), Aleshinloye organo-mineral fertilizer grade A (AOMF-A), and inorganic NPK 15- 15-15 fertilizer (NPK), each applied at planting time, 2 weeks after planting (WAP), and 4 WAP. The trial was laid out in a 3 x 3 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design and replicated three times. All the data collected were subjected to analysis of variance, using the SAS statistical package, and the treatment means were separated using Duncan?s Multiple Range Test at 5% probability level. The result indicated no significant differences in plant height, number of leaves/plant, number of fruits/plant, and the average length of the fruits between fertilizer types and application times. However, there were significant differences in leaf area/plant at 6WAP and fruit yield. Irrespective of the times of application, KOBF-2 gave significantly higher immature fruit yield (2.84 t/ha) than NPK (1.93 t/ha) and AOMF-A (1.72 t/ha). The results thus suggest that the new organic-based fertilizer formulated in this study (KOBF) deserves incorporation into national fertilizer programs for sustainable crop production.

The use of Enriched organic fertilizer to Reduce organic and Inorganic Fertilizer Application and Increase the Potato Yields in the Highlands of Indonesia. Experiment was conducted at Experimental Station of Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute (the elevation of this site is 1250 meters above sea level) from June to November 2017. The objective of the experiment is to obtain an efficient technology of nutrient management in terms of organics and biological fertilizers and to obtain appropriate technology of potato tuber. The implementation of the reseach was preceded by making compost manure using Bio-decomposer for one month and enriched by using Bio-Phosphate and benficial Micro-organism, dolomite, ash husk and rock phosphate, then continued with its application in the field with potato as an indicator plant. The treatments were arrange in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. The treatments included the use of organic fertilizer in terms of horse manure enrichment at a rate of 20 and 40 t/ha and inorganic fertilizer at a rate of 0, 500 and 1000 kg NPK and horse manure 40 t/ha + 1000kg NPK/ha as control plants (farmer's practice). Results of the experiments indicated that the use of horse manure enriched by microorganism can reduce a rate of hord=se manure from 40 ton/ha to 20 t/ha to produce growth and yield of potato. Enriched horse manure can also reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers by half rate ( 500 kg NPK / ha). Combination of enriched horse manure 20 t / ha + 500 kg NPK / ha is more efficient to increase yield of potato tubers. The use of enriched horse manure does not seem to affect the improvement of soil fertility, especially for the availability of soil P and soil biological activity.  Keywords: Solanum tuberosum, horse manure, decomposer microbes, inorganic fertilizers, tuber yields.

The effects of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield performance of soybean was evaluated at ALIAS R & DE Center, Pampanga State Agricultural University, PAC, Magalang, Pampanga from December 2017 to March 2018. It was laid out in the field according to the procedures of randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments tested were T1 – No fertilizer application, T2 – 500 kg/ha of Power Organic, T3 – 21.74 kg/ha of Urea and 150 kg/ha of Super Phosphate, T4 – 250 kg/ha of Power Organic + 10.87 kg/ha of Urea and 75 kg/ha of Super Phosphate, T5 – 375 kg/ha of Power Organic + 5.44 kg/ha of Urea and 37.5/ha of Super Phosphate, T6 – 125 kg/ha of Power Organic + 16.31 kg/ha of Urea and 112 kg/ha of Super Phosphate. Results revealed that all organic and inorganic fertilizers applied crops were significantly different in terms of days to flowering, plant height at flowering, length of pods, weight of 100 seeds and computed seed yield per hectare. Cost and return analysis reveals that the highest net income and return of investment was derived from the combination of 50 % organic and 50 % inorganic fertilizer. Conjunctive use of organic and inorganic fertilizer, that is, 50 % recommended rate of organic fertilizer (Power organic) along with 50 % recommended rate of inorganic fertilizer (Urea and Super Phosphate) can enhance the growth and yield performance of soybean and can help the farmer to increase their production with higher net income.

The experiments was conducted at Kasang village, district of Batang Anai, Padang Pariaman regency during June until December 2013. The objectives of this experiment was to increased lowland rice production through specific location of nutrient management (SLNM) on low potential productivity of lowland. Four packages of fertilization such as Package A, B, C and D were arranged in Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with 6 replications. Result of this experiment showed that; (1) SLNM treatments were significantly affected plant growth such as tiller number and plant high. Saveral of yield components also significantly affected by SLNM treatments packages such as panicles number, number of seeds per panicle, and percentage of filled grains. SLNM package A, B, and C significantly increased grain yields such as 24.9%,  34.2%, and 29.5% respectively compred to farmer package (Package D). The low grain yield with Famer package caused insufficient nutrient supplied for plant growth and yield is due to low fertilizer application and inaccurate nutrient management. The experiment suggested that the best application of inorganic fertilizer should be followed or combined with organic fertilizer such as animal manure or compost and  the application of thus material should be in mature condition. Key Words:  rice, specific location, fertilizer

Nutrient availability affected plant growth and yield. This study aimed to examine the effect of interval application and fertigation frequency toward plant growth and yield, and further determined the most proper fertigation interval and frequency that support the highest plant growth and yield. Experiment was arranged in Split plot randomized Completely Block Design. The main plots were interval of nutrient application, i.e., 3 days interval, 6 days interval, 9 days interval. The sub plots were the frequency of nutrient application, i.e., once/day, 2 times/day, 3 times/day. The plot size for each treatment was 2.5 m×1.3 m and plant spacing was 15 cm×20 cm. Space between beds was 1 m. Red onions (Bima variety) were planting in a raised bed covered with silver black polythene mulch. Before planting, 5 ton/ha manure and 1 ton/ha lime were mix with the soil. Fipronil 1.5% was applied with dose 8 kg/ha to control grubs. Nutrient was mixture between liquid organic fertilizer (7.5 mL/L), rabbit urin (5mL/L) and AB Mix (7.5 mL/L A+7.5 mL B). The nutrient was dispensed 150 mL/plant according to treatment using fertigation system operated remotely using Internet of Things. The nutrient was given from 14 DAP (Days After Planting) until 68 DAP. Irrigation water was dispensed 150 mL daily in the same way. The interval of fertigation significantly affected the growth of red onion (plant height, number of leaves and number of yield). Three days interval of nutrient supply resulted in the tallest plant, highest number of plant leaves, and highest number of bulbs. However, the frequency of nutrient supply daily significantly affected the yield of red onion. The application of nutrient three times/day provided the highest yield (economical dry weight). Further research to examine the effect of fertigation of red onion quality is required.
