Zinc Oxide nanoparticle (ZnO) is broadly used in food packaging industry. Synthesis of ZnO includes different methods like using chemical, gas and sol gel. But it contains more toxins. Hence biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticle is eco-friendly and non toxic. It acts as an anticancer, antidiabetic, antibacterial activity and so on. Trace metals like zinc, magnesium and chromium are involved in glucose metabolism and have a role in controlling blood glucose and hence in diabetic therapy. Zinc is also known to keep the structure of insulin and plays an important role in insulin synthesis, secretion and storage. Nano -ZnO is commonly utilized as additive in food. In this article we discussed about biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles from Mangifera indica L. anacardiaceae extract. Synthesized nanoparticles is subjected to its characterization such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) in the range between 4000cm-1 to 400cm-1 and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Functional group was identified in FTIR and nature, size, composition and degree of crystallinity were determined by using X−ray Diffraction analytical technique.

Li and Al codoped ZnO (LAZO) thin films have been prepared by sol-gel method. The electrical and structural properties of the LAZO films have been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the prepared LAZO films had a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure. X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) measurements indicated that our sol-gel prepared films were of high purity and codoped with Li and Al evidenced by peaks centered at 74.1 and 55.6 eV. The resulting LAZO films were p-type, and had a low resistivity in the range of 10-3~100 Ωcm, and high carrier concentration in the range of 1014~1018 cm-3.

Cobalt doped zinc oxide diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) were assembled in MCM-41 template by sol-gel method. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), physisorption, as well as the magnetism measurement. It was found that the wurtzite symmetry of the MCM-41 pores was not changed while the pore diameter became smaller after the DMSs deposited into the pores. The Zn0.9Co0.1O-MCM-41 presents a superparamagnetic behavior between 80K and 300K, while Zn0.9TM0.1O-MCM-41 (TM=Mn, Fe, Ni) samples are paramagnetic at the same temperature range.

The zinc-based aerogel was synthesized via a sol-gel route that it was processed using Zinc chloride as precursor, polyacrylic acid as the template and propylene oxide as the gelation agent. The Zn-based aerogel is formed the length and cross-link of the zinc chloride hydroxide chain, owing to a dominant influence of PAA on the nucleation and growth position of sol nucleus. Nevertheless, ZnO aerogel was prepared with the method that the zinc-based aerogel was calcined at 400°C. Consequently, the RWP value was in reasonable 7.35% according to X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) refinement. The crystal system of the ZnO aerogel was monoclinic.

Effect of different storage temperatures on physical and physiological changes of Golden Lily mango was investigated. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles edible coating was prepared by sol-gel method and Golden Lily mangoes were dipped in the solution and stored at different (32 ℃, 27 ℃ and 5 ℃) temperatures for 7 days. The mangoes were characterized by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) after 7 days of storage. Both the analysis of FESEM and EDX revealed the highest volume ratio of ZnO nanoparticles with a homogeneous dispersion throughout the mango peel surface is at 5 ℃. FTIR spectra revealed the absence of Zn–O bonding as metal oxides absorption is expected to be in the region below 700 cm-1. The mangoes stored at 5 ℃ delayed ripening, slowed down weight loss and found to be firmer than mangoes stored at 32 ℃ and 27 ℃.

Thin films of undoped and gadolinium-doped zinc oxide (Gd-doped ZnO) with different Gd concentration (1-8 at. %) were deposited onto a glass substrate by sol–gel spin-coating technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD, Bruker D8 Advance) studies confirmed the nature of the films as polycrystalline, with typical hexagonal wurtzite structure. The film also showed variation in crystallite size and change in relative intensities, upon different Gd concentrations. Besides, the influence of Gd concentration on the optical transmittance of ZnO films was studied using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV-Vis, Shimadzu UV 1800) in the wavelength range 300-800 nm. The optical transmittance of all films is higher than ~95% in the visible region, and doped films become more transparent. The electrical resistance was measured by two point probe (Keithley-2400). The resistance decrease with increasing Gd concentration up to 2 at.% and it increased for further increase Gd concentrations.
