This study aims to analyze the economic value of small pelagic fishing fisheries in Indramayu Regency, West Java. This research was conducted by a survey method using a questionnaire with a purposive sampling method and the data were analyzed descriptively quantitative and qualitative. The benefits of the results of this study are expected to provide information for decision making for the relevant government in formulating policies on fisheries activities, especially small pelagic fish in Indramayu Regency West Java so that they remain sustainable. Catching small pelagic fish is done by purse seine, mini purse seine, Millenium gill net, fishing line, and nylon net. The majority of the ship size used ships with sizes below 20 Gross Tonnage (GT). The types of small pelagic fish caught are Anchovy, Mackerel, Long Jawed Mackerel, Sardine, Scad, Sand Whiting, Tanjan Fish, Rucah Fish and Japuh Fish. The highest acceptance value of small pelagic fish in 2019 is found in anchovies, which is 8.997 billion. So that the highest profit of the highest small pelagic fish obtained in 2019 is found in Anchovy, amounting to 8,780 billion. The Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) calculation shows that the BCR value for catching pelagic fish species above is> 1 so that the fishing activity is feasible and can be continued. 99.7% of small pelagic fishing activities are influenced by the GT of the ship, the number of trips (months), and the fishing gear based on the calculation of multiple linear regression analysis.

Abstract The purse seine is the dominant fishing gear operating at the Tumumpa Fishing Port with a vessel of >90%. The purse seines that have developed are large pelagic targets, with the main catch targets being skipjack, mackerel tuna, and tuna. Tuna, mackerel tuna and skipjack are important commodities for fisheries in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the characteristics of purse seine fishing gear and its catch in the Sulawesi Sea. Data collection was carried out for two years from 2019-2020 at Tumumpa Fishery Port. Indications for the use of fish resources are calculated by comparing the length-at-first-capture (Lc) with the length-at-first-mature (Lm). The results showed that purse seines are very dominant in exploiting large pelagic resources (skipjack, mackerel tuna and tuna) with the proportion reaching 78%, small pelagic (21% scads and 1% other fish). The large pelagic fishing season using the purse seine vessel occurs in May – November, with 2 peak seasons in July and September. While the small pelagic occurs in May – September, with the peak occurring in July. The size when the frigate tuna was first caught was at a fork length of 25.15 cm (Lc) and Lm in a size of 28.52 cm for females and 28.29 cm for males. Meanwhile, the first scads was caught (Lc) at a length of 21.4 cm with the length-at-first-mature (Lm) being 20 cm for the female and 19 cm for the male. Based on this analysis, it was shown that the purse seines is a selective fishing gear for small pelagic fish but not selective for large pelagic fish.

This study aims to analyze the large income disparity in coastal and non-coastal areas in Banten Province and to analyze whether the fisheries sub-sector has become the economic base in Banten Province in 2015 – 2019. January until May 2021. The method is carried out by survey method then analyzed quantitatively and presented descriptively. The data of this study were sourced from secondary data and primary data. Data were obtained from BPS Banten Province, BPS West Java Province, Marine and Fisheries Service Banten Province, Marine and Fisheries Service West Java Province and through questionnaires from coastal and non-coastal communities. Data analysis includes analysis of Williamson index, Gini coefficient and Location Quotient (LQ). based on the results of research conducted, it can be concluded that the income disparity in the coastal areas of Banten Province is greater than in the non-coastal areas. The Gini ratio analysis shows that the value of the Gini ratio has decreased from year to year, which means that income distribution is more evenly distributed until in 2019 it reaches 0. The fisheries sector in Banten Province is included in the non-base sector because it has a value of 0.5671. Production of catch commodities that get superior commodities: small pelagic fish group (mean LQ=1.81) and demersal fish group (mean LQ=0.84). Due to very good collaboration with one commercial purse seiner, using “Srdelara” and operating in fishing zone G, preliminary data concerning the interaction between small pelagic purse seine fishery and its predators were obtained. According to the notes taken by experience observer on-board in period from year 2013 to 2016, seems that tunas, dolphins and swordfish were the faithful companions of purse seiner fisherman with abundance of 68.6%, 22.0% and 9.4%, respectively. Although they were present all year round, their monthly pattern of appearance indicated that less tunas were recorded in May-June, more dolphins were noted from July to October while swordfish were mostly abundant in winter (January-March). Within the investigated period, slightly increasing trend of tuna and dolphins’ appearance was recorded, although statistically not significant. Analysing possible correlation between purse seine catches and predator’s abundances, revealed that appearance of tuna had negative impact on the catches (dispersion of schools), while realised catches in presence of dolphins were quite good so it seems that they tend to round up small pelagic fish schools.

Lempasing is a Coastal Fishing Port (CFP) which located in Bandar Lampung. It is one of the centers of fisheries activities in the city. One of the fishing gear which operated by most of fishermen in Lempasing is mini purse seine. Mini purse seine fishing activities in the Lampung Bay Area and Lempasing CFP is not in accordance with the conditions of the surrounding waters area. The research was conducted in the Lampung Bay Area and Lempasing CFP, Lampung. This study aims to: 1) determine the status of fisheries resources utilization, 2) to describe the dominant fish caught by mini purse seine.  Analysis methods were used in this study namely: 1) Fishing Power Index (FPI), Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE), and Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) to determine the status of fisheries resource utilization. The dominant small pelagic fishes caught were scad fish Selaroides sp., mackerel fish Rastrelliger sp., longnose trevally fish Carangoides chrysophrys. The result showed that Fox model was the best fits models with estimated maximum sustainable yield of 15.5 ton and fishing effort of 992 trip/year for mini purse seine. The longnose trevally fish in lampung bay area in do not exceeded the optimal catch fish condition can be used to sustainably. In these condition is necessary to wisely manage and setting the catches to not exceed the allowable catch of the small pelagic fish, so the stock of small pelagic fish in the Lampung Bay Area can be used sustainably.
