This paper aims to find out how many records in the Ministry of Manpower's Records Retention Schedule (JRA) that are to be appraised as archival records or in regular cases having permanent value. By using content analysis method, the results of this study state that there are 177 records series (26.62%) of Ministry of Manpower's Retention Schedule which are stated as permanent. The theoretical implications are against archival theory in general which states that the number of archival records in an organization are roughly 1% to 10%. This high percentage can be attributed to Derrida's ‘archive fever’ concept that both records managers and archivists are afraid of losing memory from the Ministry of Manpower's archival records. This effort to give meaning is temporary because it departs from latest findings and is a limitation of quantitative content analysis methods. It is a must to develop further research among others by using phenomenological method.

This paper aims to investigate the trend of human resource disclosure (HRD) quality based on publicly disclosed annual reports of 235 Malaysian listed companies. The data was collected through content analysis method using HRD index. The results reveal that there is an increasing trend of HRD quality from 2010 to 2014.  However the significant increase is only between 2012 and 2013. This study provides empirical support for Institutional theory’s coercive isomorphism, through its findings on quality of HRD. This is because, the related disclosure regulations and the Malaysian government policy through Malaysia Plan may have significantly influenced firms to increase HRD quality in their annual reports.

This paper examined the problems bedeviling the operations of the Nigerian ports before the concession programme of 2006 and how well the concession has improved the performance of the Ports system. Data were collected through secondary methods such as annual reports, as well as interview and media reports.  The content analysis method was adopted in analyzing the data. The findings of the study showed that the concession may for all its worth have been able to earn more income for the government but the Authority has failed to keep its part of the contract agreement especially as it concerns the provision of the enabling environment for port operations; infrastructures were still lacking, dwell time has not substantially reduced and corruption still soared high. The paper submits that the regulators of the maritime system need to do more to ensure that it is not paying lip service to its vision of being the leading port in Africa.

Purpose: The division of J&K into two federally administered territories has deepened the feelings of alienation and subjugation in the Kashmiris.  The purpose of the study is to comprehend the peace and war framing of the Kashmir conflict after the revocation of the special status of the disputed territory in the Indian and Pakistani media. The study also attempts to explore the geo strategic relevance of Jammu and Kashmir for China. Design/Methodology/Approach: Framing, Peace and War Journalism theories were used in this study. Quantitative content analysis method was used to analyze the peace and war framing of the J&K conflict in Dawn and Times of India. Findings: Results of the content analysis supported the assumption that war coverage was the most highly recorded coverage pattern in both Indian and Pakistani newspapers. Dawn took a lead in peace journalism framing with 25.56% of its editorials and columns dominated with peace journalism frames whereas 11.88% editorials and columns in Times of India were dominated with peace journalism frames.  Implications/Originality/Value: It is concluded that Kashmir conflict was predominantly framed in the war journalism perspective by the Indian and Pakistani media. The study also indicated that China seeks to maintain stability in the region as the interaction of Xinjiang and Tibet with the western markets cannot be fully explored without peaceful settlement of the Kashmir conflict.

Good Corporate Governance (GCG) is a concept of directing and controlling business corporations. This concept specifies the distribution of rights and obligations between the company’s stakeholders and the procedures for taking decisions on corporate affairs. It provides a mechanism through which the company’s objectives are set, and for attaining those objectives and monitoring performance. The main objective of this study is to explore how far the GCG principles have been implemented in listed State-Owned Enterprises (SOE). In addition, the writer compares the GCG implementation among the participant companies as well as across the industries, in which the companies are classified. The method used in the data collection is observation through the company’s annual report (content analysis). The writer uses GCG Evaluation Manual of Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan (BPKP) released and endorsed in 2004 by the Ministry of SOE, as the scoring system. The results generated from this study are the company’s scores in implementing the GCG principles. In addition, the writer generates ranking among the participant companies, within the same industry and across the industries. The best company with the highest score in implementing the GCG principles among the participant companies is Aneka Tambang. In addition, the top companies with the highest scores within each industry are Bank BNI (Finance), Indofarma (Consumption Goods), Telkom (Infrastructure, Utility & Transportation), and Aneka Tambang (Mining). Moreover, the best industry with the highest average score of the players is Property & Real Estate.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is twofold: to quantify the communication of organizational innovativeness (OI) on a large scale; and to examine the relationship of communicating OI and the corresponding investments in research and development (R & D) of multinational corporations (MNCs). Design/methodology/approach – In total, 3,043 annual reports from 326 MNCs are examined utilizing quantitative content analysis, which focusses on fixed selected terminologies, in the years 1998-2008. Findings – Scholars assume that the capacity for OI is becoming the single most important task in organizational survival. Even though in the sample the investments in R & D are not increasing, even slightly declining, the communication of OI is increasing. Using mixed-effects regression analysis, the findings indicate that the corporations that are investing in R & D are also communicating these efforts correspondingly. Practical implications – This is the first study that measures the communication of OI using quantitative content analysis. Originality/value – The results indicate that not only do the communication efforts of an organization’s OI have a perceived increasing importance. They also suggest that OI itself has become more important for organizations from a strategic point of view.

This chapter seeks to find out whether energy corporations that operate in Nigeria provide adequate information about their corporate social responsibility, and whether these programmes are available on their managed online media platforms. For this reason, the study investigates how two energy corporations have engaged the online newsletter platform to share information concerning their CSR performance. The research employs a content analysis method. The population of the study comprises all online newsletters published by these corporations from January 2013 to August 2014. There are recognized similarities and difference in their use of online newsletters to share information concerning their corporate social responsibility to their various stakeholders. The study recommended that ExxonMobil (Nigeria) and SPDC (Nigeria) should make an effort to be consistent in their online newsletter publication. SPDC (Nigeria) should de-emphasise the frightening account of oil theft and spillage and focus more on human capacity development of persons within their host communities.
