Abstract. Academic Ethics and Integrity – Thoughts on a New University Course. The study discusses the origin and the necessity for the subject Academic Ethics and Integrity by presenting the highlights of professional discourses of the Hungarian and Romanian language area. The cited literature shows that in the last decades’ research ethics and integrity have been breached in many ways. The crisis management strategy involves the enactment of a law that introduces Academic Ethics and Integrity as a compulsory university subject. The present study delineates the topics related to the subject (e.g. questions regarding the integrity of researcher/teacher and publishing activity; legal documents, presentation of the organizations), but the most important scope was to adjust the topics of the subject to the particular situation of the faculties of theology. Thus, the new compulsory subject offers freedom to raise awareness about the meaning of theology and its role in society and academic setting. Lastly, it is argued that the subject gives excellent space for debating and construing questions of intellectuality in the 21st century. Keywords: academic ethics, integrity, intellectuality, research ethics in theology, ALLEA code

" The paper deals with the role and importance of the code of academic ethics as a tool of education and management in modern educational environment, it also reviews the challenges associated with development and introduction of the code in the academic environment. The outcomes of the study of the procedure of developing and introducing the code of ethics in HEI’s management are presented as the main document underlying the formation of corporate culture in any educational institution. The study was based on the results of surveys on Code of Ethics in Academic Environment conducted among the staff and students of Public Administration Academy of RA, and The Effects of the Current Emergency Situation on the Daily Tasks of the Staff of Armenian Scientific and Educational Organizations. The analysis of the attempts to create a Code of Ethics allows one to conclude that although such codes are needed as regulators of relationships among all participants of educational process, there are no unified approaches or suggestions for their formation. The analysis has revealed that the legislation on education in Armenia is lacking provisions on code of ethics or ethic rules: the imperfection of mechanisms of applying these provisions is obvious. Legal provisions related to regulation of ethical dilemmas as well as building efficient framework for their supervision need to be developed. It is worth noting that the Draft Law on Higher Education and Science has added a number of provisions to be addressed in this article."

Abstract Background An academic environment is the first place that nursing students are introduced to ethics related to nursing and healthcare. In this study, we explored the nursing faculty members’ point of view regarding noncompliance with these academic ethics. Methods This study was a qualitative descriptive study conducted in 2018. Faculty members at a nursing school were selected through purposeful sampling. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews. The interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data collection and data analysis were conducted simultaneously. Data saturation was ensured with 11 interviews. The interview transcripts were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis method introduced by Elo and Kyngäs. Results The participants were six women and five men with 12.72 ± 6.64 years of experience as nursing instructors. After data analysis, seven categories were identified: discrimination, violence, misuse, out-of-date instruction and knowledge, conflicts of evaluation, hypocrisy, and disorganization. Conclusion The findings of this study indicated the existence of noncompliance regarding academic ethics. It is recommended that faculty members be informed about possible instances of ethical noncompliance in academia. There is a need to develop strategies to promote a faculty’s compliance with academic ethics. Academic administrators need to emphasize the importance of ethics in academia and use further methods to enhance academic ethics.

Abstract This study aims to identify student attitudes to and perceptions of the topical phenomenon of plagiarism at the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. The paper includes a theoretical framework describing plagiarism, academic ethics and provides a different perspective on plagiarism by many authors. Furthermore, the article presents a semi-structured questionnaire conducted in July 2018 with a sample of 235 respondents. The questionnaire was used in this research to explore students’ personal experiences, recommendations and other information relating to their attitudes to and perceptions of plagiarism. The results indicate that FRDIS students were familiar with the concept of plagiarism but not always able to clearly identify the correct answers. The recommendation for the Faculty, based on the data analysis, is to hold a tutorial on all the important aspects of plagiarism, such as citations, referencing, and common mistakes. This paper concludes that plagiarism can only be eliminated if it is tackled at the prevention phase, not merely through the use of warnings and threats.

Basically, in social life in achieving progress it is indicated that a person is able to meet the needs of a social group so that that person can contribute to society. Regardless of the intention of a person, one of the efforts made by the community to obtain education is to get a scholarship so that it gets recognition from the community about their social status. If we look at it in today's society, it seems that this view has started to shift because if we see that the award is more to a degree than from one's knowledge. This has prompted some people to take academic degrees with a path that is not in accordance with the procedure. The procedure that was followed was what damaged the social order and academic ethics. It can be said that this degree was obtained based on the objective, namely degree fever. The academic world is a forum whose process always follows academic ethics through scientific activities. Thus academic ethics is essentially a scientific activity that takes place in higher education which includes universal and developing activities. Higher education institutions must be prepared to accept criticism with mutual respect and not engage in discriminatory activities. Violations committed in academic ethics are something that damages and tarnishes the world of education. In order for these educational values to be implemented optimally, we need a rule that can control the process of implementing education; this is what is called academic ethics. The emphasis on the value of honesty in academic ethics consists of two things, namely in writing scientific papers and completing studies. Therefore, it is demanded that every education actor is systematic and comprehensive and requires commitment from various parties to fix problems in education.
