This paper presents a comprehensive empirical investigation of the range of actors, issues and sub-groups related to the hashtag Anonymous on Twitter between 2012 and 2015. Complementing existing studies that have provided in-depth accounts of Anonymous from a specific point of view, this research provides an overview of the network related to the discursive construction of Anonymous on Twitter from a synoptic standpoint. In particular, the analysis covers three dimensions: the structure and dynamics of the #Anonymous interaction network; the range of issues that Anonymous has been associated with; and the relation between Anonymous and its offshoots. This research provides a descriptive characterization of the topological and semantic complexity of Anonymous and invites to reflect on the simplifications that our vocabulary and methods entail vis a vis the complexity of digital entities delimited by and individuated through hashtags.

This paper intends to analyze the question of the embodied subjectivity in Emmanuel Levinas’s work, starting from a specific point of view: the controversial reception of Husserl’s phenomenology. In the early period of his confrontation with Husserl, Levinas criticizes the excess of theoreticism in transcendental idealism. However, he then seems to discover right inside of it the conditions to bring the philosophical debate out of the limits of knowledge theory. This is when he recognizes the important role played by the body in the husserlian description of the act of sense-giving (Sinngebung). Though, while praising Husserl for his conception of sensibility – as the “Commentaires nouveaux” clearly show – Levinas actually proceeds to an original rethinking of the meaning of incarnation, beyond the purity of the ego, and the supposed “property” of the flesh.

Biosourced materials such as vegetal wools offer major thermal insulation advantages in the green buildings field. Experimental characterisations of vegetal wools thermal conductivity as a function of their density show the existence of an optimum conduction-radiation coupled value. This specific point, as well as the properties of vegetal wools are related to the large variability of shapes and sizes of their fibres. In order to take this specificity into account, it seems particularly relevant to use micro-macro modelling methods to predict the thermal conductivities related to both conduction and radiation heat transfer phenomena. In a first time, a self-consistent method based on a cylindrical geometry (SCMcyl) is used as a modelling approach for conduction transfers. Then, a modelling approach developed by Bankvall and based on an equivalent fibre radius value is used for radiation transfers. So, by coupling these two approaches, it is possible to obtain an equivalent thermal conductivity of fibrous materials as a function of density. Finally, this method is validated by comparison with experimental data.

ABSTRACT: This article describes an algorithm for an adaptive distance protection in a sub-transmission system considering operating conditions with changes in the topology due to an abnormal condition, electrical failure or a natural disaster, includes the effect of adjacent generation in the distance relay protection zones, with the incorporation of renewable energies in mixed participation. Two scenarios are proposed, in the first case occurred a contingency, and the transmission systems changes the initial topology. Protections are automatically reparametrized. The second case includes the income of renewable energy generation in a specific point of power electrical Systems. Protections are automatically recalculated. The objective of an automatic coordination permit to operator to restore the sensitivity, selectivity and reliability the electrical protection system in the lowest time. Keywords: Adaptive distance relay, renewable energy, distance protection, infeed effect..)

After the criticism that Martin Heide-gger made of Western metaphysics some authors like Gilson or Fabro, among others, wanted to enter into confrontation giving them the oppor-tunity to study in depth most important theses of authors like Thomas Aquinas and his esse philo-sophy. Gilson’s theses had an important impact on the world of Thomism, but Lawrence Dewan, also a Thomist, wanted to defend against Gilson the traditional interpretation of Cayetano and Capreolo, which until now had been regarded as the most celebrated commentators of Thomas. This article investigates a specific point of this confrontation: the causation of esse.

Abstract This article explores the interplay of visual arts and poetic images in postmodern poetry, focusing on the case of Friederike Mayröcker’s poem BROTWOLKE, nach Karla Woisnitza (1996) [BREADCLOUD, after Karla Woisnitza]. The article shows that BROTWOLKE belongs to a group of texts whose titles indicate an ekphrasis or an intermedial quality, but whose specific point of reference is absent. Rather than referencing to a specific painting, the poem thus showcases different aspects of the visual. Offering a close reading of the poem, the article explores Mayröcker’s special technique of image-writing and its dynamic effect on the reader. The article argues that the poem both “shows the word” and “writes the image.” It is shown that Mayröcker’s stream-of-consciousness is a process that refers to the act of writing in the first place and then to an inventory of texts and images that float the text as a stream of sense-data.

This paper addresses the Castilian lanza, making a proposal on its origin, and reveals our stance on an underlying issue regarding this topic: it has been discussed by many Historians from different perspectives that, far from removing all doubt, have generated some confusion. One of these is the time frame. While the available data allow to determine a specific point in time for the emergence of the lanza in Castile, some authors have formulated different hypotheses as a result of either tracking semantic records in all kinds of texts -mainly literary- or following evidence in a military-organizational context. Another research line, also military-related, has been focused on finding equivalents in other late medieval European territories.

Methylxanthines have a rich history as therapeutics and pharmaceuticals. However, natural dimethyl- and monomethylxanthines are difficult to produce synthetically, which has limited further exploration of these compounds in medicinal applications. A biosynthetic method for production of methylxanthines from whole cell biocatalysts is an attractive alternative. The bacterium Pseudomonas putida CBB5 contains a set of five enzymes, NdmABCDE, which are responsible for methylxanthine metabolism via N-demethylation to xanthine. The recent elucidation of the crystal structures of NdmA and NdmB, which remove the N1- and N3- methyl groups of caffeine, respectively, has opened new avenues to create biocatalysts for methylxanthine production. We have created a set of fifteen N-demethylase mutants and expressed them in E. coli BL21(DE3) as whole cell biocatalysts. The activity of each mutant was characterized for their affinity towards caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. Two mutant enzymes in particular, labeled NdmA3 and NdmA4, both exhibited selectivity towards the N3-methyl group instead of the N1-methyl group. We also discovered that specific point mutations in NdmD resulted in the ability to tune the rate of the N-demethylase reaction. These new enzymes provide the capability of producing high-value methylxanthines, such as paraxanthine and 1-methylxanthine, through a biocatalytic route.

Statistics show that most fires occur in civil residential buildings. Most casualties are due to the inhalation of hot air loaded with smoke, leading to intoxication with substances harmful to the human body. This research aimed to develop a CFD model that relates the operation of the sprinkler system to the operation of the ventilation system through the air temperature in a specific point close to the sprinkler position. A real-scale experiment was carried out, and a CDF model was developed. Several parameters of the CFD model (thermal conductivity of the experimental test room walls, numerical grid elements’ dimensions, burner heat release rate variation) were imposed to the model, so that the resulting entire time variation of the temperature next to the sprinkler location corresponds to the real measured variation. Two other experiments were used to validate the numerical model. Besides the air temperature, at this point, other essential parameters were determined in the entire experimental space: indoor air temperature, visibility, oxygen concentration, and carbon dioxide concentration. We found that if the ventilation rate increases, the indoor temperatures in that specific point decrease, and the sprinkler is activated later or, in some cases, it might never be activated. However, this conclusion is not valid for the entire analyzed space, as the ventilation system alongside the natural air movement imposes specific air speed and specific temperature distribution inside the analyzed space.

Consciousness exists, or so it seems to us most of the time. However, consciousness is unlike your car-keys or your cell-phone in that it is not located at a specific point in space and time. The applicability of physical laws like gravity seem moot at best when it comes to consciousness. What is desirable is an explanation of consciousness that allows it to exist and be part of the very same reality as the car-key or the cell-phone, a ‘philosophy of immanence’ as Gilles Deleuze would put it.  I prefer a view that construes consciousness as causally-efficacious (having material effects upon one’s body in real time) and metaphysically separate from the brain. In essence, to say that the mind is metaphysically separate from the brain is to deny the proposition that there is nothing more to our subjective experience of mind than the mere activity of the physical brain. This paper looks at a view proposed by John Searle and tries to show that there are empirical problems with a consciousness that is causally inefficacious (unable to cause material changes) and metaphysically identical (not separate from the brain).
