Abstract The effect of equilibrium poloidal flow and pressure gradient on the m/n = 2/1 (m is the poloidal mode number and n is the toroidal mode number) tearing mode instability for tokamak plasmas is investigated. Based on the condition of ≠0 ( is plasma pressure), the radial part of motion equation is derived and approximately solved for large poloidal mode numbers (m). By solving partial differential equation (Whittaker equation) containing second order singularity, the tearing mode stability index Δ′ is obtained. It is shown that, the effect of equilibrium poloidal flow and pressure gradient has the adverse effect on the tearing mode instability when the pressure gradient is nonzero. The poloidal equilibrium flow with pressure perturbation partially reduces the stability of the classical tearing mode. But the larger pressure gradient in a certain poloidal flow velocity range can abate the adverse influence of equilibrium poloidal flow and pressure gradient. The numerical results do also indicate that the derivative of pressure gradient has a significant influence on the determination of instability region of the poloidal flow with pressure perturbation.

An Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) jet that occurred around 22:30 on July 2, 2012 was observed by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on-board the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). There were two phases of the jet. In Phase 1, two blobs were observed. In Phase 2, the intensity of the jet was almost coherent initially. One minute later, three blobs were formed at the same time in the jet, and the width of the jet changed after the formation of these blobs. The formation and evolution processes of the blobs in these two phases are analyzed in this paper. The physical parameters of the blobs are determined. The measured width of the blobs is 0.8 − 2.3 Mm, and the apparent velocities of the blobs are from 59 km s−1 to 185 km s−1. The formation mechanism of the blobs is likely to be tear-mode instability.

Abstract The presence of current sheet instabilities, such as the tearing mode instability, are needed to account for the observed rate of energy release in solar flares. Insights into these current sheet dynamics can be revealed by the behavior of flare ribbon substructure, as magnetic reconnection accelerates particles down newly reconnected field lines into the chromosphere to mark the flare footpoints. Behavior in the ribbons can therefore be used to probe processes occurring in the current sheet. In this study, we use high-cadence (1.7 s) IRIS Slit Jaw Imager observations to probe for the growth and evolution of key spatial scales along the flare ribbons—resulting from dynamics across the current sheet of a small solar flare on 2016 December 6. Combining analyses of spatial scale growth with Si iv nonthermal velocities, we piece together a timeline of flare onset for this confined event, and provide evidence of the tearing mode instability triggering a cascade and inverse cascade toward a power spectrum consistent with plasma turbulence.

Abstract Whistlers are believed to be generated by its own and responsible to evolve dynamical properties of magnetized planetary environment. Growing whistler instability can cause other uncertainties in the magnetosphere and evident to be generated by mean of injection events and temperature variance in plasma environment. In this paper the empirical dispersion relation has developed for parallel propagating whistler mode instability in an infinite saturnian magneto plasma in the presence of perpendicular electric field for ring distribution function having non-monotonous nature. Method of characteristics solutions alongside kinetic approach found to be most suitable in order to achieve perturbed plasma states. The perturbed and unperturbed particle trajectories have taken into consideration to determine perturbed distribution function. A remarkable growth rate expression with added hot plasma injection has been calculated in inner magnetosphere near 6.18 Rs. The results obtained using demonstrative value of the parameters suited to the Saturnian magnetosphere have been computed and discussed. Pressure (Temperature) anisotropy is found to be a peculiar source of free energy for whistler mode instability. The AC frequency irrespective of its magnitude, affects the growth rate significantly. The bulk of energetic hot electrons injection influences the growth rate by increasing its peak value. The result obtained provide the important view of wave particle interaction and useful to analyze the VLF emissions observed over a wide frequency range.

In this work, we shortly review the role and properties of hyperons in finite and infinite nuclear systems such as hypernuclei and neutron stars. Particularly, we describe different production mechanisms of hypernuclei, discuss some aspects of their γ-ray spectroscopy and their weak decay modes, and give a few strokes on their theoretical description. We reexamine also the role played by hyperons on the properties of neutron and proto-neutron stars with a special emphasis on the well-known “hyperon puzzle”, of which we discuss some of the solutions that have been proposed to tackle this problem. Finally, we review the role of hyperons on the cooling properties of newly born neutron stars and on the so-called r-mode instability.
