Abstract BackgroundMedical devices and equipment play an important role in the modern medical service. It is necessary to integrate the relevant information in order to effectively manage all the equipment into a biomedical engineering equipment management system (BEEMS). Aims: To report our experience and satisfactory from the users of a BEEMS.MethodWe combine a central core module with intra-net and a mobile device application with internet to become a real-time BEEMS. With the combination of these two modules, the point-of-care software system become real-time and mobile for all users in the hospital. We conduct a survey about satisfactory from the users after more than one-year implementation of this system. ResultsAfter the application more than one year, only 7% users show unsatisfactory about the BEEMS. We also find this real-time and point-of-care BEEMS has high satisfactory and is especial helpful for the management staff in hospital. ConclusionA real-time BEEMS has high satisfactory and is helpful for the staff in hospital.Relevance to clinical practiceA real-time biomedical engineering equipment management system is helpful to effectively manage all the equipment in hospital.

Automatically and accurately obtaining payload information from Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) vehicles is a typical application of information and intelligence technology in engineering equipment, which provides an important support for efficient and safe construction. In this paper, a novel comprehensive weighing model for LHD with high accuracy and adaptability is proposed by Newton-Euler method. The accuracy of the model has been greatly improved with the consideration of some critical factors such as materials randomness, driving cylinders coupling, dynamic characteristics of mechanism, system damping and working pavement. The effect of the critical factors on the accuracy of weighing model is deeply analysed through significance analysis and comparison tests, which provides an important basis for the improvement of weighing model. Validation shows that the novel model is superior to traditional models in accuracy and adaptability. In theory, the accuracy of novel model is at least 3 times higher than that of traditional models, and its accuracy can still achieve ±0.3% in complex velocity or acceleration motion, and the larger the load mass, the higher the accuracy. As a result, the novel comprehensive weighing model can provide accurate load information for LHD vehicles without affecting working efficiency. It is of great theory and application value to the development of information and intelligence technology in engineering equipment and contributes to efficient and safe construction.

To ensure safety and prevent failure of engineering equipment throughout its lifespan, the concept of ‘Safety Design’ is proposed, which covers all the cradle-to-grave phases of engineering equipment, considers at least ten essential factors of failure causes, and conducts root cause analysis at three different scales, in order to proactively control the safety risks before the occurrence of failure rather than passively conduct the remedial measures after failure. Herein, in order to demonstrate how to implement this effective and efficient concept in engineering practice, a case study of failure analysis and prevention is addressed on the extraction column in the production line for methyl methacrylate. Based on the analysis results, the causes were finally determined to be all derived from the stages before operation, including inappropriate design, limited quality inspection of fabrication and installation. Pertinent countermeasures were then proposed from the ‘Safety Design’ point of view, which would not only solve the failure problem for this sole equipment but also contribute to safety risk control of other engineering equipment before operation.

Underwater connectors are very essential and complex components of deep-sea engineering equipment and their design and manufacture have apparent multidisciplinary characteristics. Wet-mateable connectors (WMCs) represent the highest level of technology in this field, and only a very few countries in the world can produce WMCs. So, WMCs are likely to be a constraining factor to some maritime powers that might try to achieve breakthroughs in this field, constraining the innovation-driven development of deep-sea equipment. This paper gives a detailed overview of underwater connectors, both electrical and optical. First, the background of underwater connectors is introduced, and then the main available commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products are described. Next, the new concept of functional units is proposed by the authors to help readers to have a better understanding of underwater connectors. Then, the basic theories of design are introduced according to different functional units, covering the aspects of electrical/optical connection, pressure-balanced oil-filled (PBOF) technology, penetrable self-sealing, aligning and locking structures. Finally, some discussions and conclusions are presented. This paper aims to reveal the secrets of key technologies used in underwater connectors, especially in WMCs.

The article considers the architectural features of the Center for Rehabilitation of Servicemen, as well as how to achieve barrier-free spaces in them. The article highlights the universal design of rehabilitation centers that meets the needs of people with disabilities. Implementing spaces as a "barrier-free" architecture at the level of engineering equipment, the architect must take into account the psychology of perception of space on the basis of interdisciplinary research; The design of rehabilitation spaces "plays" with different textures, using different materials, "plays" with space, generating a figurative and semantic series of its perception, which inspires healing, hope; The diversity and structure of the architectural environment of rehabilitation spaces allows people with disabilities to learn about the world through their various analyzers; General universal design and individual design are closely related; Creating a universal design can expand the ability of people of different abilities to acquire new knowledge about the world around them, using all possible feelings and skills; It is necessary to go beyond traditional ideas, methodologically reveal the architectural relationship between man and the world in the system "nature-man-environment", and not just be limited by standards. The architectural and design features of the Center for Rehabilitation of Servicemen are considered, as well as the mechanisms of achieving such spaces in them, which correspond to the barrier-free architecture and contribute to the rehabilitation technologies. Highlights the universal design of rehabilitation centers, which meets the modern needs of both rehabilitation technologies and, of course, people with disabilities. This article undoubtedly has scientific value, problem issues are revealed, the purpose of scientific research is defined. The article responds to the demand for interdisciplinary research: the issues of architectural formation of rehabilitation centers that meet interdisciplinary approaches to military rehabilitation, formation of such spaces and planning and functional structure that meet the needs of society and enhance the effect of rehabilitation are relevant. It is possible to trace the definition of the rehabilitation center as a system: - design of the rehabilitation center, medical complex, treatment process. Based on the methods of analysis and modeling, the author reveals the implementation of rehabilitation spaces at the level of engineering equipment, as well as emphasizes the psychology of perception of the environment by the followers of rehabilitation as a socio-psychological phenomenon. The diversity and structure of the architectural environment of rehabilitation spaces allows people with disabilities to learn about the world through their various analyzers; reveals a universal design on the way to rehabilitation, which expands the ability of people of different abilities to acquire new knowledge about the world around them, to use all possible feelings and skills.
