Abstract The purpose of this paper is to create and test design thinking approach sequence, to redefine the value proposition. This paper suggests a 4-step systematic design thinking approach sequence to reinvent values in a business model, which was researched by a case study method. Based on the idea management approach the authors describe idea generation and evaluation processes by applying the design thinking approach and their possible moderation elements. Originality/value: a created approach could be applied by the organisations that would like to create new values or reinvent the existing ones in their business models value propositions.

Purpose: Research web-based idea management system (IMS) application benefits and their relations with different IMS types and how it is all related to the IMS results – idea quality, idea quantity and involvement. Design/Method/Approach: On the basis of a commercially available web-based IMS study and the analysis of cases of the IMS use, the main benefits of IMS were identified. The survey verified the most typical benefits for the IMS use. On the basis of a thematic analysis of the benefits, they were grouped together in advance in the thematic groups that were addressed. Data collection: the survey of 400 enterprises with web-based IMS experience was carried out. Data analysis: descriptive statistics and MANOVA analysis were utilized. Findings: The potential benefits of IMS in 4 main groups: the benefits of an idea management (IM) process, the benefits of innovation management, the benefits of cooperation, and the benefits of general management were determined.  According to MANOVA, all groups of benefits have strong connections with all types of a web-based IMS. Originality/Value: This study fills the previously identified need to clarify the types of IMS and their impact on the results and benefits of IMS application. Academic contribution to the study is (1) it is the broadest survey-based study of the web-based IMS benefits; (2) it applies two classifications of IMS; (3) it explores relations among the results, benefits and IMS types. Practical contribution is the outcomes of the study will help companies to understand what results can be achieved using different types of IMS. Research Limitations/Future Research: This research opens avenues for the future research on the web-based IMS application in organizations exploring each of the benefit relations with the web-based IMS types.   Paper type: Empirical.

Prediction markets are a common tool of companies for idea management and evaluation during the innovation process, which enables them to include expectations and opinions of stakeholders across organizational boundaries. However, prediction markets are also known for their susceptibility to manipulation in theory and practice. The irregular and multifaceted occurrence of these phenomena, with sometimes very creative strategies, makes it difficult to detect manipulation and fraud based on algorithms. To ensure robust and reliable forecasts, which are of utmost importance for a focused and successful digital innovation process, there is a need for a monitoring approach capable of dealing with these specific problems. In an Action Design Research project, we address this problem by developing a crowd-sourced manipulation and fraud detection tool. The artifact enables the crowd to successfully decompose the large set of trading data and successfully find even creative strategies without guidance. The artifact is implemented and evaluated in the field in the prediction market [blinded for review]. We conclude, that a crowd-sourced approach can be suggested to monitor ambiguous and rare events with a varying character in our context and presumably other contexts as well.

Topicality/Problem. Idea management systems (IMS) are manageable, systematic tools, tool kits or complex systems that helps to generate and evaluate ideas and are an important element of organizational development. Many well-known organizations (e.g. Volkswagen, Microsoft, GE Healthcare, Procter and Gamble, Boeing, Siemens, etc) are successfully applying web-based IMS. But there is no research that explores the impact of web-based IMS on intellectual resources development. Research aim – to research the impact of IMS on intellectual resources development and to provide recommendations to practitioners for its broader assistance in enterprises to ensure innovation acceleration. Methodological approach. The empirical research was based on 447 enterprise survey applying. The research results show the following results: IMS application has resulted in a new intellectual resource, in a patents and improved innovation acceleration.Research limitations. Survey research may limit the generalisability of the result, because the survey target group is commercially available web-based IMS applied enterprises.Originality/value.  The research based on the empirical data analysis contributes to understanding the directions and significance of IMS impact on intellectual resources development.

Research background: the authors have explored that there are different idea management system (IMS) application types that could be used both locally and globally for diverse reasons and expected outcomes. There is ongoing research on how IMS could be applied for manageable idea management process. But there is a question – how do these IMS types help to set and achieve goals, and improve decision making? Purpose of the article: The article aims to clarify how an external and mixed web-based IMS could be used during COVID19 time for distance idea generation sessions, as well as, to solve complex issues such as decision making, goals’ setting and reaching them based on different idea generation sources and critical reflection on those ideas of evaluators. Methods: Literature review (data collection: systematic data collection from scientific data bases; data analysis: content analysis). The survey of n>400 enterprises with web-based IMS experience globally (data collection: a survey; data analysis: statistics). Findings & Value added: this paper explores how different types of web-based IMS could be applied as a tool and support system for decision making processes in general, decisions towards goal setting and its outreach. The research results provide also a practical contribution - it could help to choose the most appropriate IMS application type to reach estimated goals and to empower decision making.

This paper presents the proposal for a framework to represent Idea Management (IM) in a systemic way, aligned with organizational structure. It considers Knowledge Management as a supportive element, in accordance with the practices of Open Innovation. Organizational capacity to stimulate innovation depends on the collection of ideas and their management. The systematic collection of external ideas has become popular due to the need of organizations to exchange internal and external inputs. However, collection alone cannot generate results. IM can act as an integrating mechanism between internal and external knowledge so that ideas generated are improved and evolve. For this research, an integrative review of the literature on ideas management was conducted following the parameters of Torraco (2005). For the construction of the proposed framework, based on Regoniel (2015), the important elements were selected, that is, elements described in the literature were identified and analysed to discover how they are related. Subsequently, the proposed framework was structured into three levels, with strategy as a central element. The first level refers to the supportive elements: Processes, People, Technology and Knowledge Management (KM). The second refers to the stages of IM - Preparation, Generation, Collection and Storage, Treatment (filtering and categorization), Enrichment, Evaluation, Selection, Refinement and Feedback and Follow-up. The third level refers to the results. In terms of practical implications, the research contributes to the clarification of the IM in Small and Medium-sized organizations. Ongoing research including verification with experts and field research could serve as guidance for implementation of IM in organizations.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to define the factors of innovativeness in the context of employee involvement and study how these factors could be affected by an employee-driven innovation (EDI) process.Design/methodology/approachThis study follows a quantitative approach through a survey. The survey data were collected from a case organisation, where employees designed an innovation manual in a participatory process to support their daily innovativeness.FindingsAccording to the results, the EDI manual process can assist the organisation in developing their ideation and organising structures. The employees felt that their ideas were appreciated more after the innovation manual process. Understanding about innovation and innovativeness was also increased. In between two survey rounds, the focus of the most urgent development targets had shifted from internal idea management practices towards customer ideas, cooperation and appreciation of different ideas. This indicates that the internal innovation system has to work before it is reasonable to involve other stakeholders.Originality/valueThe study presents an empirical example of an employee-driven process in the context of public sector healthcare. It increases understanding about the importance of employee involvement in the innovation manual development process and how this process affects the factors of innovativeness.
