This study aimed to test the antibacterial activity of n-hexane and methanol extracts of white cempaka flowers (Magnolia alba) against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The extract was obtained by using the maceration method for 72 hours. Each extract was tested for its antibacterial properties using the disc diffusion method with the variant concentration of the extract used was 0.05%; 2%; 4%; 6%; and 8%. The results showed that the methanol extract had a higher inhibition zone than the n-hexane extract. In n-hexane extract, the lowest concentration of 0.05% showed an inhibition zone of 6.6 mm and the highest concentration of 8% had an inhibition zone of 9.6 mm. Whereas in methanol extract, the inhibition zone obtained was 7.3 mm at a low concentration of 0.05%, but at the highest concentration of 8% the inhibition zone obtained was 11.6 mm. The effect of extract concentration on the diameter of the inhibition zone formed is very significant (directly proportional), where the higher the concentration used, the larger the diameter of the inhibition zone produced. Antibacterial testing for both extracts showed a weak (< 10 mm) to moderate (> 10 mm) bacterial inhibition, which was similar with the inhibition zone obtained from the positive control (11-11.3 mm; moderate bacterial inhibition).

Abstract In this study, graphene oxide (GO) was first prepared by the modified Hummer method. Then, the GO/trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) composite was prepared by loading TCCA into GO with the blending method. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the composite. The results showed that TCCA was successfully loaded on the surface of GO or intercalated among GO layers. Next, the antibacterial performance of the composite against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was tested by the 96-well plate assay. A bactericidal kinetic curve, bacterial inhibition tests, and the mechanism of bacterial inhibition is discussed. The results showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration of the GO/TCCA composite (GO:TCCA ratio = 1:50) was 327.5 µg/mL against E. coli and 655 µg/mL against S. aureus. At the minimum inhibitory concentration, the inhibition rate of the GO/TCCA composite exceeded 99.46% against E. coli and 99.17% against S. aureus. The bactericidal kinetic curves indicate that the GO/TCCA composite has an excellent bactericidal effect against E. coli and S. aureus.

Chicken meat is one of the foodstuffs that have high nutritional value because it contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and other substances that are beneficial to the body. Chicken meat is very high risk in terms of bacterial contamination, this study aims to determine the treatment of soaking native chicken meat in soursop leaf infusion on chemical and microbiological quality. This method uses a completely randomized design (CRD). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA). If there is a significant significant difference between treatments, the test is continued with Duncan Multiple Range (DMRT). Parameters observed in this study include phenol test, total plate count test, and bacterial inhibition zone test. The results showed the chemical and microbiological quality of free-range chicken meat by soaking soursop leaf infusion for one hour and different storage times, namely the difference was not significant (P<0.1) in the phenol test, the difference was very significant (P<0.01) in the total test. plate count, and non-significant (P>0.1) in the bacterial inhibition zone test. The results showed a very significant difference in the total plate count test due to contamination during research or storage.
