Limitations in obtaining superior varieties of red chili that are suitable to be planted in the highlands are one of the causes of the low yield of red chili in Rejang Lebong Regency. However, the availability of red chili germplasm as a genetic resource (SDG) in Rejang Lebong Regency is a good potential to be utilized to overcome problems in increasing the yield of red chili plants through the assembly of superior varieties. Assembling superior varieties of red chili has been done by researchers in order to get the desired plant character. This study aims to obtain information on the variability and heritability of growth character and yield of 18 red chili varieties in Rejang Lebong Regency. This research activity is the initial activity of developing the potential of germplasm that will be carried out so as to be able to overcome the problems in increasing the production of red chili in Rejang Lebong Regency. A series of research activities will produce superior varieties of red chili specifically for the highlands. The material used in this study was eighteen (18) varieties of chilli collections from various regions. The experimental design used was a Complete Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with a single factor, namely red chili plant varieties. The red chili varieties to be investigated for genetic variability and heritability in this study amounted to 18 and each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed that the highest estimated heritability was indicated by the leaf width variable at 96.69% and all observed variables had broad genotypic and phenotific variability.

Formal, informal and non-formal educations are major milestones of post-family care that concern with shaping the character of their students. One form of education which has always been the choice of the majority of parents is pesantren education. Tradition in pesantren is a miniature of community tradition that deserves to be called a community which certainly has a major influence on the mindset and behavior of the students and alumni. One of traditions is the usage of a typical pesantren lexicon. The pesantren lexicon is one of the indirect efforts in character-building education. As it is well known, the majority of students in pesantren have good character as one of the goal of education carried out in pesantren. The educational process in the context of a pedagogical social environment such as pesantren is very interesting to be studied further so that it can be carried out also in the scope of other formal, informal, and non-formal education. This research is conducted to study the pesantren lexicons as an effort to plant character education in pesantren. This research usees ethnolinguistics theory by applying descriptive qualitative design.

The tribe Dacini comprising four genera, namely Bactrocera Macquart, Dacus Fabricius, Monacrostichus Bezzi and Zeugodacus Hendel, is a derived lineage in Tephritidae. It is one of the most economically important tribes in Tephritidae harbouring several species of quarantine concern across the world. We describe two new species of Bactrocera Macquart, B. (Parazeugodacus) conica David & Ramani, sp. n. & B. (B.) prabhui David, sp. n. from India. Postabdominal structures of males and/or females of 23 species of Bactrocera, 16 species of Zeugodacus and 8 species of Dacus from India are illustrated and described for the first time, which revealed similarities between Dacus and Zeugodacus with respect to epandrial shape and praeputium patterning. Bactrocera is unique in possessing oval shaped epandrium and an unpatterned praeputium. An analysis of phylogenetic relationships between three genera of the tribe Dacini from India based on morphological characters has been attempted for the first time. Cladistic analysis employing 51 characters of 62 species in Dacini, with seven species as outgroups revealed the monophyly of Dacini, Bactrocera and Dacus with supporting nonhomplasious synapomorphies. Ichneumonopsis Hardy, often included in the Gastrozonini, does not possess any synapomorphies of Dacini, eventhough it appeared at the base of the Dacini clade. Zeugodacus was retrieved as a monophyletic sister-group to Dacus based solely on a single homoplasious host plant character, with weak statistcal support.

ABSTRACTThe Identification of Distribution and The Character of Lychee as The Landscape Plant in Sides of The Jalan Raya Payangan, The District of Payangan, Gianyar RegencyLychee plants in Bali are plants that introduced from China, that is comes from Guangdong and Fujian. Although this plant is not as an original plant from Indonesia and classified as rare plant, however it has been established as flora of the identity of Gianyar Regency. Lychee plant is one of the many types of trees that grown along to Jalan Raya Payangan. However, nowadays, its existence has been reduced. This study aims to find out the distribution and appropriateness of the character of lychee as landscape plants in Payangan, Gianyar Regency. This research was using survey method with data collection technique, by field observation, interview, questionnaires and literature study. The final result of research shows that 14,5 km in Jalan Raya Payangan, there are 18 species of plants as framer of landscape in Payangan. There are 42 lychee plants that still growing properly and there are five filling formers of lychee trees. Based on the combination of the technical reference Direktorat Jendral Bina Marga (1996), Steenis (2005), and Carpenter, (2000), there are nine terms of plants that required being landscape plant on sides of the roads, but from nine terms the research founded that lychee plants only requiring five terms, about that lychee plants unfit as landscape plant on sides of the Jalan Raya Payangan, The District of Payangan, Gianyar Regency. Keywords: lychee plant, character, landscape plants, Payangan, Gianyar.

Abstact

Caharcterization of Cucumis sativus germplasms was done to get the description of plant character for the breeder to use as “Working Collection” materials which were useful in breeding programme. Characterization was done on 23 accessions of Cucumis sativus germplasm planted at Subang station (100 m asl) during dry season 2003. Twenty seeds of each accession planted in a plot with planting distance of 70 x 40 cm. The description of Cucumis sativus germplasms had been done. Six accessions of Cucumis sativus were selected for Working Collection based on fruits quality and resistance to environmental stresser.
