Taste perception is a primary driver of food choices; however, little is known about how perception of all five tastes (sweet, salt, sour, bitter, umami) collectively inform dietary patterns. Our aim was to examine the associations between a multivariable measure of taste perception—taste perception profiles—and empirically derived dietary patterns. The cohort included 367 community-dwelling adults (55–75 years; 55% female; BMI = 32.2 ± 3.6 kg/m2) with metabolic syndrome from PREDIMED-Plus, Valencia. Six taste perception profiles were previously derived via data-driven clustering (Low All, High Bitter, High Umami, Low Bitter and Umami, High All But Bitter, High All But Umami); three dietary patterns were derived via principal component analysis (% variance explained = 20.2). Cross-sectional associations between profiles and tertials of dietary pattern adherence were examined by multinomial logistic regression. Overall, there were several significant differences in dietary pattern adherence between profiles: the vegetables, fruits, and whole grains pattern was significantly more common for the High All But Umami profile (OR range for high vs. low adherence relative to other profiles (1.45–1.99; 95% CI minimum lower, maximum upper bounds: 1.05, 2.74), the non-extra virgin olive oils, sweets, and refined grains pattern tended to be less common for Low All or High Bitter profiles (OR range: 0.54–0.82), while the alcohol, salty foods, and animal fats pattern tended to be less common for Low Bitter and Umami and more common for High All But Bitter profiles (OR range: 0.55–0.75 and 1.11–1.81, respectively). In conclusion, among older adults with metabolic syndrome, taste perception profiles were differentially associated with dietary patterns, suggesting the benefit of integrating taste perception into personalized nutrition guidance.

Abstract In various regions of the Far East, the nutritional status of the population suggests that the diet of Russians is characterized by excessive consumption of animal fats, as well as micronutrients. Based on this, it will be promising to enrich the macro-and micronutrients of ordinary food products such as boiled sausage products for the benefit of the consumer. The use of vegetable raw materials in the production of meat products enrich them with functional ingredients, increase their digestibility and get products that meet the physiological norms of nutrition, contribute to the improvement of their therapeutic and preventive properties and the stabilization of consumer properties. The results of the tasting evaluation of the presented samples allowed us to draw conclusions about the possibility of improving the organoleptic parameters by adding raw materials of plant origin in various combinations and mass fraction. The use of carmine made it possible to get a color familiar to the buyer and to abandon the use of artificial food additives. Partial replacement of animal fat with soybean oil allowed to give the product useful properties and improved the appearance of the product.

Abstract: Biodiesel is becoming the best substitute for the fuel and the best choice for the green environment without using any renewable resources. The major reason behind in the increase number of the production and research regarding the production of biofuel by waste cooking oil due to the increasing and high consumption use of the product and the depletion of natural resources while producing the biodiesel .it is a derived from various part including vegetable oil, animal fats and waste cooking oil. The paper states the characterization and the production of biodiesel and glycerin from waste cooking oil using two method that is transesterification and microemulsion. Many researchers are trying their best in finding out easy and best method that can be used for converting waste cooking oil in biofuel. Keyword: waste cooking oil, microemulsion, transesterification, surfactants.

Abstract Background In Tonga, import duties were lowered on tinned fish and seafood in 2013 and raised on soft drinks, dripping and other animal fats. Additional import duties were applied to soft drinks and dripping and other fats in 2016 and duties were also applied to high fat meats, mutton flaps and turkey tails. The objective of this study was to describe barriers to and facilitators of these import duties from a policy-maker perspective. Methods A case study was conducted to analyse implementation of policies originally modelled by the Pacific Obesity Prevention in Communities project to reduce mortality in the Kingdom of Tonga. Policymakers (n = 15) from the Ministries of Revenue, Health, Finance and Labour and Commerce involved in the development and implementation of Tonga’s food-related policies participated in key-informant interviews. Results The main facilitator of import duties were strong leadership and management, cross-sector collaboration, awareness raising and advocacy, nature of the policy, and the effective use of data to model policy impacts and inform the general public. The absence of clear lines of responsibility and a decline in collaboration over time were identified as barriers to implementation of the import duties. Conclusion In a small Island state implementing import duties to prevent non-communicable disease can be straight forward providing policymakers and the community have a shared understanding of the health and economic costs of NCDs.

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel machine comprosied of alkyl monoesters deriving from vegetable oils or animal fats. Cooking oil is an oil originated from vegetable or animal fat which has been priorly purified, where it appears in liquid form at room temperature and is usually used to fry food ingredients. Heterogenous catalyst is a catalyst present in different phase with the reagent in a reaction it catalyzes. Kalium content in banana in a banana bunch is sufficiently high reaching 94.4%. The aim of this study was to utilize banana bunch which has been priorly ashed using furnace at 700°C for 4 hours, thereafter, applied as a heterogenous catalyst in a the preparation process of biodiesel from cooking oil. Processing variables investigated in this research included the influences of the number of catalyst (3, 4, 5, 6, and 7%) and molar rasio of oil and methanol (1:5, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8, and 1:9) against the properties of produced biodiesel, namely density, viscosity, and water content which later compred with Indonesian standard (SNI). From the study, it was obtained maximum yield of 90.97% with methanol:oil rasio of 1:7 at processing temperature of 60°C with reaction time of 90 minutes and catalyst as much as 3 % w/w. The characteristics of the cooking oil-based biodiesel obtained from the a reaction with oil: methanol rasio of 1:6 and catalyst as much as 3% w/w were density 850 kg/m3 and viscosity 621 mm2/s. This research showed that the obtained biodiesel characteristics had been sufficient according to the SNI, and the use of calcinated banana bunch was very potential in the production of biodiesel acting as solid catalyst person.

Abstract Rapid increase in demand of fuels creates the challenge for scientific community. The fossil fuel resources are declining day by day. So, biomass derived fuel starts to feel an exquisite alternative option, by reason of it develop from residual cooking oil, animal fats, or vegetable oils, etc. In present work biomass is converted into bio-fuel by the process of pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction. But if it is compared with fossil fuel some undesirable properties have been found such like high oxygen content high water content, high corrosiveness and high viscosity etc. Directly biofuels cannot be used in IC engine due to their unwanted content in the fuel. Therefore upgrading of bio-fuel is needed to improve its properties for liquid fuels by the pre-treatment process of biomass. The purpose of biomass pre-treatment is the degradation of cellulose phibrils, lowering their crystallization and polymerization levels, hemicelluloses separation and degradation of cellulose. However application to this bio-fuel have been needed to enhance its properties for CI engine fuel using blending for direct use in engine application.

Biodiesel is obtained using the transesterification process from renewable oils obtained from vegetable and animal fats. The transesterification process is used to produce biodiesel from Karanja oil with heterogeneous catalyst Calcium Oxide (CaO). In this research work, the Taguchi method has used for the optimization of the transesterification process using five input parameters and five levels for the development of orthogonal arrays. Experiments have conducted as per the L25 orthogonal array developed by Taguchi and yields obtained have been noted. The results obtained by experimentation have been analyzed by Minitab software. The results from Minitab have compared with the results obtained using ANN script analytically as well as graphically. The maximum value of yield has 88% at optimum parametric value namely molar ratio 20% with the addition of 3% Calcium oxide catalyst at process temperature 65ºC for 60 minutes reaction time and agitation speed 600 rpm.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the world’s leading causes of cancer-related deaths; thus, it is important to detect it as early as possible. Obesity is thought to be linked to a large rise in the CRC incidence as a result of bad dietary choices, such as a high intake of animal fats. Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a set of molecules that coordinate intracellular lipid responses and are highly associated with metabolism and inflammatory pathways. There are nine types of FABP genes that have been found in mammals, which are FABP1–7, FABP9, and FABP12. Each FABP gene has its own roles in different organs of the body; hence, each one has different expression levels in different cancers. The roles of FABP family genes in the development of CRC are still poorly understood. We used a bioinformatics approach to examine FABP family gene expression profiles using the Oncomine, GEPIA, PrognoScan, STRING, cBioPortal, MetaCore, and TIMER platforms. Results showed that the FABP6 messenger (m)RNA level is overexpressed in CRC cells compared to normal cells. The overexpression of FABP6 was found to be related to poor prognosis in CRC patients’ overall survival. The immunohistochemical results in the Human Protein Atlas showed that FABP1 and FABP6 exhibited strong staining in CRC tissues. An enrichment analysis showed that high expression of FABP6 was significantly correlated with the role of microRNAs in cell proliferation in the development of CRC through the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling pathway. FABP6 functions as an intracellular bile-acid transporter in the ileal epithelium. We looked at FABP6 expression in CRC since bile acids are important in the carcinogenesis of CRC. In conclusion, high FABP6 expression is expected to be a potential biomarker for detecting CRC at the early stage.
