Abstract: An obvious device for the utilization of renewable energy sources is inverter and Pulse Width Modulation technique is widely used method for voltage source inverters. This paper deals with the generation of PWM signals by analog circuit, where the comparison of sine wave and sawtooth wave for the operation of power circuit takes place. The above mentioned technique is studied and verified by Simulating the circuit. The prototype of PWM based, single phase, full bridge inverter is developed and the results are verified for the nominal voltage and frequency with the help of simulation and hardware is designed. Keywords: Inverter, SPWM, VSI, Simulation, MATLAB

Modelling systems are a new sort of electrical network that can be easily adapted. Dispersed generators are linked to a microgrid using voltage source inverters. Nonlinear modelling systems are used in this study to create an inverter voltage mode controller for power systems to control power supply volatility. Controller for a nonlinear inverter that operates in voltage control mode is proposed. The primary goal is to ensure that the output voltage of the system matches a predetermined standard. Once the system model is completed, the controller is constructed using the backstepping method. After the control law is developed, several simulations are run to test the proposed controller's performance. According to simulation findings and formal analysis, the output voltage matches the reference voltage with global asymptotic stability. The accomplishment of this work is that the controller built, works in both grid-connected and inverter voltage modes of microgrid operation.

This paper proposes a method to reduce the output voltage distortions in voltage source inverters (VSI) working with impedance networks. The three main reasons for the voltage distortions include a discontinuous current in the coils of the impedance network, the double output frequency harmonics in the VSI’s voltage output caused by insufficient capacitance in the impedance network, and voltage drops on the bridge switches during the shoot-through time. The first of these distortions can be reduced by increasing the current of the impedance network when the output VSI current is low. This method requires storing energy in the battery connected to the DC link of the VSI during the “non-shoot through” time. Furthermore, this solution can also be used when the Z-source inverter works with a photovoltaic cell to help it attain a maximum power point. The Z-source inverter is essentially a voltage source inverter with the Z-source in the input. In this paper, the theory behind basic impedance networks of Z-source and quasi-Z-source (qZ-source) is investigated where simulations of the presented solutions and experimental verification of the results are also presented.

This article presents the design and hardware implementation of an IGBT-based half-bridge voltage source inverter (VSI) to be used as a basic cell to assemble VSIs of different topologies in modular ways. Herein, we have presented the design methodology and utilized techniques for reducing stray inductances and EMI radiation on the printed circuit board, as well as the way to calculate and select the main electronic components. For the design of the circuit board, local regulations for grid interconnection and international standards were considered in order to obtain a safe and reliable electronic power cell. The developed hardware was subjected to different tests using AC electric motors as loads to validate its design. Two VSIs topologies were evaluated: a single-phase two-level full-bridge inverter and a three-phase two-level inverter. The experimental results validated the theory and demonstrated the excellent performance, reliability, and high efficiency of the developed half-bridge power cell for modular VSIs.

The DC-link capacitor is one of the components that are more prone to faults in energy-distributed systems based on voltage source inverters. A predictive maintenance approach should allow to foresee the risk of an unexpected system shutdown. In this study, a two-stage diagnostic approach that is aimed at determining the health status of the DC-link capacitor in a single-phase grid-connected PV system was proposed. The equivalent series resistance (ESR) and the capacitance (C) values were used as indicators in the estimation of the degradation stage. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to estimate the impedance curve of the DC-link capacitor, and a multi-fitting algorithm allowed us to determine the ESR and C parameters. A comparison between the estimated values C and ESR and the nominal values was used to quantify the fault severity. It was demonstrated that the EIS allowed the determination of the capacitor impedance regardless of the actual operating conditions of the photovoltaic generator, such as during irradiance changes and with the maximum power point algorithm turned off. By using the capacitor simplified model and a multi-fitting algorithm, the C and ESR values were estimated with an error that was lower than 1%. An analysis of the hardware required to implement the proposed approach in real applications by achieving the desired accuracy was also proposed.
