This chapter assesses how the Companies Act establishes an organizational framework for companies by defining roles for the directors, the shareholders, the auditors, and the company secretary. The statute appoints the shareholders to decide constitutional matters and to participate in certain management decisions. It delegates the maintenance of financial records and the production of financial reports to the directors and carves out a role for the company secretary and the auditors. The Act also imposes mandatory procedures for shareholder meetings. The common law permits these to be overridden by an informal unanimous decision and in this way allows for organizational reality to override the formal legal process. The UK Corporate Governance Code contains generally accepted recommendations structuring decision-making by the directors.

As artificial intelligence's potential and pervasiveness continue to increase, its strategic importance, effects, and management must be closely examined. Societies, governments, and business organizations need to view artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their usage from an entirely different perspective. AI is poised to have a tremendous impact on every aspect of our lives. Therefore, it must have a broader view that transcends AI's technical capabilities and perceived value, including areas of AI's impact and influence. Nicholas G. Carr's seminal paper “IT Does not Matter (Carr, 2003) explained how IT's potential and ubiquity have increased, but IT's strategic importance has declined with time. AI is poised to meet the same fate as IT. In fact, the commoditization of AI has already begun. This paper presents the arguments to demonstrate that AI is moving rapidly in this direction. It also proposes an artificial intelligence-based organizational framework to gain value-added elements for lowering the impact of AI commoditization.

PurposeHigh-reliability performance and high-hazard are intertwined in High-Reliability Organizations (HROs) operations; these organizations are highly safe, highly hazardous and highly significant for the modern society, not only for the valuable resources they have, but also the indispensable services they provide. This research intend to understand how HROs could produce high quality performance despite their challenging and demanding contexts. The research followed an emic approach to develop an organizational framework that reflects the contribution of the seeming traits of the organizations to the operations safety based on the workers point of views about the safety of workstations.Design/methodology/approachThis research adopted mixed methods of in-depth interviews and literature review to identify the structural characteristics of high-reliability organizations (HROs) embedded in the organizations studies and developed a theoretical based structural framework for HROs. Furthermore, a systemic literature review was adopted to find the evidence from the organizations literature for the identified characteristics from the interviews from the first stage. The setting for this study is six Chinese power stations, four stations in Hubei province central China and two stations in the southern China Guangdong province.FindingsThe organizational framework is a key determinant to achieve high-reliability performance; however, solely it cannot explain how HROs manage the risks of hazard events and operate safely in high-hazard environments. High-reliability performance is attributed to the interaction between two sets of determinants of safety and hazard. The findings of this research indicate that HROs systems would be described as reliable or hazardous depending on the tightly coupled setting, complexity, bureaucracy involvement and dynamicity within the systems from one hand, and safety orientation, failure intolerance, systemwide processing, the institutional setting and the employment of redundant systems on other hand.Originality/valueThe authors developed an organizational framework of organizing the safety work in HROs. The applied method of interviewing and literature review was not adopted in any other researches.

The Front Nahdliyin for Sovereignty over Natural Resources (FNKSDA) is an organization concentrated on socio-ecological issues. FNKSDA bases its struggle on religious text, including hadith. Hadith generally recognized as part of an important learning resource in Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) in Indonesia. This organization uses hadith and traditions of their Pesantren, to organize their ideas, interpretations, and organizational framework. This paper describes FNKSDA's ideas and responds in understanding hadith related to the socio-ecological issues. By using in-depth interview method this article finds that socio-ecological hadith are perceived with a synchronous reception. FNKSDA uses three construction elements in its acceptance theory called general norms. This research also finds some indirect relation between the reception of hadith in the present and in the Prophetic era, without any imaginary contradiction
