Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide insights into cross-functional team (CFT) members’ points of view on knowledge integration. Design/methodology/approach This study was conducted using Q methodology. The 22 respondents were members of CFTs in information systems development within 7 agencies of the Flemish Government administration. Findings The study resulted in three distinct perspectives. To the CFT player, the benefits and added value of information and knowledge diversity of CFTs outweigh the challenges of knowledge integration. By contrast, the CFT sceptic is doubtful that knowledge integration in CFTs can ever work at all. Finally, the organization critic highlights the lack of support from the organization for efficient and effective knowledge integration in CFTs. Research limitations/implications The findings of this study suggest that CFT configurations have important implications for the development of shared team mental models and for teams’ cognitive performance. Practical implications Making CFT members aware of their peers’ mental models, ways of working and priorities could help strengthen knowledge integration. To improve knowledge integration in teams, managers should reduce knowledge boundaries that are the result of organizational structuring and power play between departments. Originality/value By focusing on daily experiences with knowledge integration, this study reveals that members of CFTs in information systems development hold contrasting perspectives on, and diverging attitudes towards, knowledge integration.

Organizations Depending on the type of activity they exercise their size, geographical distribution, leading ideology, and the environment in which they operate, they select a suitable organizational structure. The organization's structure is static, it reflects the state of the organization, only at a certain moment, as decentralized as an organization, and it is harder for managers to impose bureaucratic norms. Organizational structuring is one of the issues that has always attracted the attention of scholars and practitioners. Drucker underlined that "A good organizational structure does not bring a good performance on its own, but a bad organizational structure makes it impossible to perform well, no matter how good it is to be its managers. All small or large, private or public, profit-oriented or not, regardless of the areas where they exercise their activity, have a common thing: the "need to manage". Each of them for the achievement of the final goal engages a variety of human, matrix and financial resources. The term management has many dimensions and definitions, which varies more than the description made to its functions. Researcher Brech defines management as "A social process that has the responsibility for planning and effective and economical regulation of an organization's operations in order to achieve a goal or a given task".

Growing attention is being paid to the benefits of considering the long-term interests of multiple constituencies in corporate governance. A theory of the corporation where fiduciary duties of directors point to the legal entity and not to its shareholders goes beyond a pure prioritization of shareholders’ interests. However, the notion that board members mediate the interests of all constituencies fails to account for a ‘positive’ conception of corporate purpose and underlying asymmetries in allocations of rights between stakeholders. Addressing corporate governance as a fundamentally ‘open’ model for organizational structuring, we engage with a variety of legal mechanisms that can be used to implement and protect a positive purpose for the modern corporation and to protect the conditions of credible commitment to manage the company for the interest of corporate constituencies, to commit the corporation to a social or environmental purpose and to take into account multiple time-horizons.
